We have been here for dinner twice. My husband went there once before me and knew he had to take me there.  I love good sushi - but I'm not a fan of weird stuff :)

This place has *delicious* house rolls plus standard sushi. Their fish is incredibly fresh for a non-coastal or big city place. Was highly impressed.

They are small - some tables plus a sushi bar. The sushi bar is the best place - they have 3 sushi chefs (2 are co-owners) and we have had 2 of them on our 3 combined visits.

Plus the pricing is great. They offer an all you can eat for both lunch and dinner. I've only been for dinner and had all you can eat both times. usually i think all you can eat sushi is a BAD plan and consider their fish suspect. But this place was excellent.

If you get up there and enjoy sushi - go.

The all you can eat sushi is Awesome, perfect for after a long day of Snowboarding.  Staff is very nice, and orders are very quick.  Best Sushi in Tahoe!  Great sushi and cold beer!!

I'm not a fan of sushi as a whole had some bad experiences down in SF of all places but this place rocks! I loved the atmosphere and the chief was really good in explaining to me what each item was and if I might like it based off things I had tried and liked. As mentioned it's s little small of a place but the food is very good! The staff is very friendly, those Godzilla rolls were the best! =)

Forget HIRO! If it's good quality fish you're after, Yoshimi is your place. I love that you don't have to drive all the way to Reno for AYCE Sushi, it's right here. Their specialty rolls are fantastic and so is their cucumber salad. The chefs are usually pretty attentive considering how busy it gets in there around dinner time. I would eat there all the time if it were a little bit more affordable.

I've always got a ton of people visiting me here in Tahoe, and this is one of the places i drag people to.  The idea of $25 all you can eat sushi at dinner seems to be shocking enough that you gotta try it.

On my most recent visit on a Saturday night, it was fairly crowded, yet the young female owner was ours at the bar, deftly handling our threesome's orders quickly and well.  We filled up eating well over twice the value of $25 if you ordered a la carte.

Interesting note - the $25 includes miso soup, so after it hadn't appeared after 15 minutes, I asked the waitress about it and she said we only give it to people who ask for it.  A little strange.

Anyway, everybody who works there is pretty nice, the sushi is pretty good (and I can't complain, because it's less than 3 minutes from my house), and everybody who sits at the bar seems to share laughs with each other.

Best sushi in Lake Tahoe! Although you won't find a Japanese person making your sushi, you WILL find a gorgeous brunette who knows what the hell she's doing! I'm gonna make a point to come here and take advantage of there extensive sushi menu, fresh fish, friendly staff and extremely reasonable prices.

I read the reviews and was so excited to come here with my family, but had a simply horrible, embarrassing experience!!! The following is a review about their service, but to be fair not their food as we were never able to try it. The minute we walked in the door we were clearly not welcome there. Why? Because we had 5 people in our party. Yep, that's right, 5. Not 10, not 20, but 5 - and let me mention that we had only 3 adults, the other 2 were little kids! The waitress actually kind of tried to turn us away from the half-empty restaurant and it was very uncomfortable as we stood there being told we couldn't be accommodated since they only had tables for 4 or for 2. We inquired if we could just put another chair at the head of one of the tables and the waitress reluctantly went to ask the manager if she could put another chair at the head of the empty table that we stood next to - but mentioned that he probably wouldn't say yes because they used to have tables that seated six and they simply couldn't handle it. So she had us start to sit down - and at this point we were completely uncomfortable because everyone was staring at us like we were causing some sort of scene - and then made us get up again because they actually didn't HAVE an extra chair to put at the head of the table, but we COULD split up and sit on opposite sides of the restaurant (um, I guess I could have eaten with the two little ones by myself?). The only extra chair available in the restaurant that worked at our table was at a table of three and they didn't want to give us the chair because they thought someone might show up as they were completing their meal (what the restaurant did with the extra chairs when they sat many tables of six I don't know). We politely said, no thank you, we would like to eat together. So, we were all becoming more and more uncomfortable at this point, but were still very polite and asked if we could sit at the sushi bar, which was mostly empty and where we could all sit together. We were promptly told that NO, that was for all-you-can-eat only and we simply could not sit there unless ALL of us had all-you-can-eat (yes, including the two little ones), but could sit in their waiting area and wait for a second table to open up (there were only 3 tables by the way that sat 4) so that we could have a 5th chair. So, we stupidly said okay because at this point we were a little dumbfounded. (I mean, this restaurant was half-empty! And they don't take reservations, so that wasn't it.) We had to ask were this sitting area was because the waitress had walked away from us. We waited and waited, were not offered anything to drink, not even water, and watched as a party of 4 sat down at our table and was immediately taken care of. Now at this point, we realized that our ability to be seated would depend on two tables of four opening up either simultaneously or that two of the three tables would remain empty long enough for us to nab one of them plus the extra chair before another group walked in. We really had no other choice but to leave because it was fairly clear we would not receive a table. I was completely and totally appalled at our treatment. I am not so much writing to insult the restaurant, but to warn people against taking more than 4 people in. We had such a horrible, horrible experience and I don't want anyone else to have to go in there with a group and undergo the same thing. They made it abundantly clear that they were more interested in the hope that all of their all-you-can-eat bar seats would be full that evening than having a sure bet with us. We felt very unwelcome and will never, never step foot in there again.

This local favorite in the ominous "Christmas Tree Center" facilitates two Tahoe obsessions:

    1. All-you-can-eat sushi -- and --
    2. Christmas lights everywhere

For the rest of us it's a guilty pleasure, a cost-effective and tasty one.  For $13.95 you get as much sushi as you want, made to order at the counter.

===========================================
---- ADHD people can stop here ----
===========================================

Many imperfections here, inattention to the concept and practice of sushi. A few examples:

   * Rice-- needs more vinegar
   * Fish flesh -- huge pieces make a favorable fish-to-rice ratio, but less than three bites per piece and you'll choke.
   * Service -- lit your tray to the counter to receive because the chef won't reach over.
   * Health -- chef had the sniffles and it's not allergy season.  Guy to my right coughing.  How long does a virus live on fish flesh?
  * Intercultural flying fish -- when done chef tossed the fish -- actual airtime! -- back into the counter where it collected in little piles of fish miscegnation.
   * Organization -- cleaning fluid, to go containers and plastic wrap on the countertop, baby boosters on the floor, not neat or tidy
   * Decor -- aging Christmas-in-July gift malls and sushi do not mix, and green industrial carpet is strictly for miniature golf courses

Staff speaks -- Cantonese??  No issue there, common enough back in San Francisco.  But maybe it explains the vibe here.

Eighty nearby pine trees, no lake view, and a solitary snow-capped mountain in the window.  Okay, I'm spoiled, but that's below Tahoe average.

Despite all that, the fish itself was very good.  Yoshimi is a great value and tasty in the mouth.

I made a comlete tuna of myself -- a sea pig -- seven orders of nigiri, a salmon skin roll.  Cleaned out the Pacific Ocean and part of the Atlantic, $40 to $50 worth of sushi for $14 + tax & tip.

Someone end this all-you-can-eat sushi fad, it'll be the death of us all.

I recently tried Yoshimi based on the recommendation of Heath at Full Throttle.  My expectations weren't terribly high initially as I had yet to experience great sushi in Truckee/Tahoe.  Up until now, Mamasake in Squaw has been my favorite, but it is a bit expensive and really benefits from its great location.  Needless to say I have a new favorite.  Yoshimi was fantastic!

Let me start by saying that if you are primarily interested in a scene with hip decor in a fantastic location, this is probably not the place for you.  Yoshimi is located in Christmas Tree Plaza, a small strip mall in Incline.  The decor is average for a sushi restaurant and the crowd primarily consists of locals, especially at lunchtime.

However, If you want delicious sushi and great service, there is no better place in the area!

Yoshimi is family owned and the staff is extremely friendly.  I had dinner there with a buddy after a day of snowmobiling.  We were promptly and warmly greeted as soon as we walked in the door.  We decided to go for the all you can eat sushi dinner for $25.95.  Normally I avoid all you can eat sushi places as I believe it signals poor quality.  Yoshimi is the exception.  Bryan, the sushi chef and owner took fantastic care of us.  We sat at the bar and rather than ordering from the menu, gave Bryan some ideas on the type of fish we liked and asked him to make whatever he thought would be delicious.  Bryan is not Japanese, but he has been making sushi since he was 12 years old and it is obvious that he is extremely passionate about his work.  Over the course of the next hour we had so many fantastic rolls and pieces of incredibly fresh and tasty fish that we were lucky to walk out the door.  The food was so good that I called my wife immediately and told her I would be taking her there asap.  My wife loves sushi and I actually felt guilty having such an incredible sushi dinner without her.

To summarize, if you want delicious sushi at fantastic prices, there is no better bet than Yoshimi.  It may not be as hip as Mikuni or some of the places in the Bay Area, but who cares.  The food and service are what matter and this is where Yoshimi scores 5 stars.

Good sushi in Tahoe just seems silly, so i was really shocked at the sushi here. I went for lunch and they offered all you can eat sushi for $14.50. Really, back in San Fran its hard to find a deal like this. I didnt really feel like OD-ing on fish and rice so i just got a seaweed salad and the southwest roll. The roll was packed full of tuna and really hot! i was in heaven. I sat at the bar, and from there the fish looked really fresh. Plus, i didnt get food poisoning so thats ALWAYS a good sign of freshness hehe. Totes coming back

Only four stars because it's good for the area.  Compared to other places I've been, it might be a 2.5-3 stars.

There are no Japanese (or any other Asian) people in sight, so it's definitely not authentic... but still pretty good for what it is.

$13.95 for the lunch buffet - you sit at the bar and everything is made to order.

Good variety to choose from.

Fish was mostly fresh.  Rice could use some help though... it's was hard, almost like it was undercooked?

Service was good - quick and attentive.

NEW OWNERS!

This place is good now!

It is important for people to realize that the previous two reviews by gll s. and Guri S. were written when Yoshimi Sushi was still under the old owners.

The new guys make some great sushi and a group of 10 of us had an excellent time at the bar tonight.  I'll be back.

My boyfriend and I were planning a ski trip and him and I are totally anal about making plans, following schedule and ensuring that we have the best time possible and that includes pre-selecting a great restaurant to eat at. After reading these reviews i thought i was going to be in for a treat because i love sushi! However, i was completely DISAPPOINTED. They wanted $25 for all you can eat sushi which was totally not worth it to me because usually people get full after a couple of rolls. I decided that i wanted a regular entree and they told my boyfriend that if he even dared gave my one bite of his sushi from the all you can eat bar that they were going to charge me an additional $25.00 on top of everything else that i ordered. Then they have this huge sign that says how they hate food waste which is understandable...but then the sign says that if you waste any SCRAP OF FOOD, YOU WILL BE CHARGED A FULL-PRICED ENTREE OF ANYTHING YOU WASTE OR LEAVE BEHIND so in other words if you're having trouble getting down those last couple of bites, you'd better just scarf it down and up chuck it up later!!! customer service wasn't even that great and some of the waitresses had a funky attitude. THIS IS ONE OF THE STINGIEST ASIAN PLACES I'VE EVERRRR BEEN TO! it was ridiculous, i'm never going back here again!!!!!!

We have eaten here a lot - old owners, new owners, take out, eat in....It is okay, but my hubby is crazy about sushi, so we eat here because it is really convenient to where we stay in Incline and is next to a pizza place where we can get something for the kids - such is the parenting life...Anyway, they have the rolls with the tempura shrimp, bbq eel, always a hit and pretty safe at any sushi place.  I was not impressed with the quality of the scallop I got in the spicy scallop roll last weekend.  The raw nigiri we got was pretty good, not stellar.  No take out sake which is a down side.  Not one Japanese sushi chef working there now which is a little scary.  Three stars for standardization and convenience but the jury is out whether the less than stellar quality of the raw fish might bring them down.  If they delivered it would be a plus.

I didn't expect much with the food being in the boondocks of diversity but was pleasantly surprised. This place can't compare to places say  in the Bay Area but is definitely not the worst I've ever had. If you go here, the all you can east sushi is a deal, go for it.

Their sushi rice needs a little work, almost too soft and tasteless for my rolls versus it being undercooked with another reviewer. Also I don't know what variety they use for their green tea, I usually see the common Genmaicha (Green tea with burned rice) in sushi houses but what I drank was pretty mild.

No doubt the next time I'm there it will be even better though! These guys are pretty good for the area.

I love this place, best sushi in north lake, maybe north and south lake, and that was before the new owners - haven't been there since.  Not sure if they still do the all you can eat option, but that is a good idea because this is made to order, not buffet style.  Yum.  Definitely going back.  WEnt to Hiro Sushi last time because it's walking distance from where I stay, but that was a mistake.  I only went there because I had never been before.  Language was a bit of a barrier, so you need some patience, but the sushi is great and the price is reasonable (great if you get the all you can eat.).
