I love the Downtown YMCA. I was a member here when I was in college in the late 80s and am a member again after moving back to Springfield a few years ago. A friendly atmosphere. They have fitness classes daily and open swim times in their basement pool. It's really great the way it is divided into different levels depending on what you are looking for. Most of the weight machines plus free weights and indoor rock climbing are in 2nd floor. The 3rd floor has a track which goes around the entire upstairs and mainly has cardio equipment.
The weights include the only four way neck machine I have seen at a commercial gym. They also have a deadlift platform, power racks, pull-up machine, dumbbells to 120 lbs. Plus they have too many extras to mention. It's a great place that does a lot of good for the community with kids activities and a true health focus. I live close enough to walk and feel very fortunate to live so near. Highly recommend!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - IM H.Springfield, MO0185Apr 12, 2022
I teach kickboxing classes at the Y & the environment is great. It's a peaceful setting surrounded by hard working people who care about their fitness. The staff is amazing & they all do a wonderful job. Janice hired me & she is such a lovely lady & has helped me out a lot getting my classes started. It's always a clean & positive environment & very welcoming to all people.

I do not know about this location . I just joined the other location on republic road .
That place mens's bathrooms and showers are very dirty and stinky . Also hot tub and sauna are very rundown. All needs to be repaired.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jim C.Louisville, KY49542Feb 20, 2019
From out of town..... came as an away member. Not really what I needed. No pool, hot tub or sauna. But showers were nice, and it's a cool old school building

The location is super convenient for fellow downtowners! Everyone here is very nice, especially Jake who works in the mornings! I love their noon SPRINT class on Tuesday & Thursday and Body Pump is awesome! The machines are a little old and class times can be a little inconvenient for someone who works a normal 8-5 but other than that I love this gym!

I love going to the Y! The classes are challenging but the instructors are helpful. It encourages me to do better. Thank you!

This is going to sound like a commercial for the YMCA so just be sure, its not.
After living in Springfield (Downtown) for a couple of months, and having my daughter fall into the fountain at the square 3 time I started looking for water elsewhere. I actually sat in my apartment by the window, staring at the 8 ft lighted YMCA banner wondering where i could find affordable training and swimming.
Well, i smartened up and got a $50/monthly full family membership at the 'Y' and I have to say its one of the smarter things I have done lately.
Swimming, Basketball, Rock climbing, Soccer, gymnastics, Yoga etc. etc. The 'Y' offer it all. You can even get dirt cheap private lessons in almost anything from nursing to Guitar lessons.
The building is old, but the staff is new. And very friendly, consisting of mostly college students, eager to help you with anything.
I personally take my daughter swimming in the Olympic size pool. Where the towels are always clean and free to use, and there is an entire 'storage shed' full of toys and 'learn to swim' equipment that anyone can use.
In short. Join the YMCA! Your kids will love it, and nothing is more relaxing than 20 minutes in the 105F Therapeutic Spa pool after a hard day of 'chase the daughter.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
