I love the gym! Parking was spacious but beware of the meters. Service was friendly and helpful with a lot of the current programs. The gym was great experience too due to music selection and gender specific steam rooms. Only downside is there is no gym to play basketball in or track to run on. I recommend this gym for someone looking for a quick workout without the amenities you could be getting at other Y's.

Amazing downtown location for a nice bike ride w video of beach. Friendly, professional staff. Always clean and super helpful workers (no matter color of shirt). While I give Carondelet (where I live 2 blocks away) 2 stars, downtown earns 5 every time. I ride my bike here and work out here because of the friendly staff, and the clear love of the city and its people. Downtown YMCA is an exemplar of excellence and loving values toward all people.

This is totally turning into my favorite Y!
As you guys know, I'm pretty committed to Les Mills Body Pump, which they offer at most of the YMCAs in the Greater Saint Louis area, but I love the big bright rooms with high ceilings at this location.
If you've never tried body pump before but want to, Michael B is the best instructor when it come to new folks. Go to any of his classes and learn everything you need to in order to get strong and stay safe.
This location also has super new machines as it recently opened last year, so everything feels super fresh. Also, I love that they have a gender neutral restroom/ locker room.
I will say this location isn't super family oriented like I've noticed other locations are, but that seems more fitting for downtown as the crowd seems more transient and younger.
I've also had generally great experiences with the folks who work at the front desk. Very inclusive, accommodating, and friendly. It's my spot!
The only downside is parking downtown can be a drag.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 231690320Jun 8, 2017Updated review
This review is for the new downtown ymca. Nice reboot, same nice staff. The weights and barbell area is a nice size, though this location seems to be way smaller than the other location. It is alot cleaned. 3 barbell stations, but only one free weights area, and therefore only one set of free weights from what I can see. 3 or 4 bench press stations. A good number of machines, but when i went at 6a, it was getting full. I took a look at the schedule and noticed they have HOT YOGA! Will update once i try it. The women's locker room was mostly finished. The steam room was not done. There are only six showers, and a few private showers in a separate room for families. The one thing i was concerned about was parking, but it well lit and felt safe to park on Locust street and walk in even at 6a. Can't wait to explore more.

Cons: Hot tubs and steam room are in the separate locker rooms, no relaxing with anybody of the opposite sex.
The setup of the building is more than a little convoluted. The women's locker room has a passcode - ask before you go downstairs and can't open the door. It's also really spread out, there is a batting cage, but it is seriously like 4 floors up above the track and workout machine room.
I love pilates with Rianna, she's amazing.
I've heard people complain because it's close to the Larry Rice shelter, I've never had problems with safety or weird people hanging around.
I can't wait until they move into the new building. - Simone S.Wildwood, MO146263210Sep 20, 2017
This is my first year being a member with the Y.I was always a member at Club Fitness but when this facility opened up right down the street from where I work and my office was offering a cooperate plan I couldn't help but jump ship. I workout 5 days a week and most of those workouts are during my lunch hour. I am obsessed with their Spin class. Glen teaches it during the afternoon and he is great. He has great music and is always changing it up to keep things fun and interesting.
I am also an avid attender of the Kickboxing class taught by Dan. He is a professional Boxer or Kick-boxer? one of the two so he takes the class seriously and I am drenched at the end...
If lifting weights is more of your thing then I would take Ashley's BodyPump class. Its a great weights class that gives me serious DOMS the next couple of days. To top it off I love the Tabata class they offer on Friday, it leaves me dead but in a good way and I don't feel bad eating breakfast tacos from Taco Buddha the next morning.
Obviously on top of all the classes I love, the facility is clean and new and up to date. All the machines are new including the free weights. There is no swimming but they do have a steam room. You never feel crowded or overwhelmed. The employees are incredibly helpful and more than willing to help you with anything. I am exceptionally happy with this new addition to this part of downtown.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 50141407Oct 11, 2016
Had a very nice tour of the facility. It seems I will only be able to enjoy this location till next year, where at that time the will move out of that building to down the rd somewhere. I'm Glad I got to see & use everything before it moves.

I take Tai chi here. The instructor is Dan I. I heard he is a kickboxing champion and offers a kickboxing class. I just started the plank challenge today! My time is 39 seconds!!! There is a lot of equipment here. So far I'm only using the precor treadmill. They have lockers here you have to bring your own lock. There is a nice sitting area here also with big windows for lookout and watch people walking up and down the sidewalks. There is free Wi-Fi and it is fast! And 11 days the plank challenge is over. I will need to come every day. Best time for me is in the morning. This place has tea bags and hot water! The house staff here is constantly cleaning the place! Sometimes I come here just to sit and browse the internet! You do have to check in first!!! At the $15 per month discounted price, the Y is a really good deal for me.

This location is quaint but don't let the size fool you... This is a great place for classes and working out. Don't worry about overcrowding the staff here is friendly and you will feel right at home quickly.

Love this place. Clean and they do a great job of keeping the equipment working well. People are really nice and helpful. Most crowded around lunch time, but I've never had any trouble getting on the equipment I need.
