This place used to be fantastic. When I heard it had closed, it broke my heart. Today (12/31/18) as I walked down to Amoeba, I saw that this place is opened again. What a let down! While the selection of magazines is good, the people put a sticker over the price of each magazine adding a dollar to the cost. Too bad that they have to resort to this kind of sketchy behavior to stay open. Probably, it would have been better off closed with good memories rather than scamming customers. Never again...avoid if you want to avoid paying more than cover price.

My "DH" has been coming to this newsstand for a long time! "The best newsstand ever" he says. He doesn't delcare much the "best", so I take note when he says "best". I've come with him a few times and have always had a plesant experience, even in the "not so plesant sections"! which have downsized considerably in the last few years.
There is a lot less selection overall, than there was in years past, but I guess that's expected with the good ol' internet and all! We went today and I snapped these pictures. The lady was a doll and thought I was a tourist..... too funny! I told her I just like taking pictures. She had great nails! Super super long and every one a different bright color. Go say "hi"!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ray D.Los Angeles, CA043Jun 24, 2018
This newstand still stands ! Yelp erroneously reporting this as closed. It may be the last standing newstand in Hollywood, it may have more rows of candies than before, but we are lucky its still there despite the onslaught of digital media !

Horrible horrible horrible customer service. I wouldn't be surprised if someone punches this guy in the face one day. Can we say "attitude problem" take that somewhere else, you work at a newsstand, you must interact with customers and be NICE! Don't be a jerk! It looks bad on your business. If he's not the owner he should definitely be talked to about his behavior, and how he interacts with customers, so so rude. Will go somewhere else. Gladly!

I'm a publicist so I'm always at newsstands picking up magazines my clients are in. This newsstand has a great selection with some overseas, hard to find publications. The lady who works here during the day knows what's in stock and when things come out, which is handy. Plus it's by Beauty Bar so you can stop by before cocktails.

I used to spend numerous hours at his place many, many years ago, mostly in their film magazine section. Truthfully, I have not been there in quite a while, but still take a peek at the place when driving up or down Cahuenga. It looks exactly the same, and as it was the best newsstand in Los Angeles back then, it still must be the best these days (and that included Centerfold on Fairfax and the place on Robertson just south of Pico, if it is even still there).

Not the friendliest bunch around and the selection of foreign mags is average at best. Go to Robertson Magazine or the corner of Fairfax and Melrose instead!

It's a neat little news stand. I used to stop by there and go to the computer magazine section to (at the time, the UK magazines have free copies of SUSE Linux w/KDE, go getting them and then installing it was cool). I'm glad to see that its still around, despite the the prevalence of big corp media stores.

This place is like an old friend to me, faithful and steady. It's one of the first places I've ever visited and six years later I still visit this place atleast once a week. The lady that works during the day has always been so friendly and nice. She always has a smile on her face and a kind word. Their selection is great. I looked all over town for this british photography magazine and low and behold they had it. They saved me from having to order it from amazon uk. Thank you World Book and News for being a good friend.

When Universal News (this was my favorite) closed on Las Palmas, I had to move to this location. I don't like the staff here, they seem rude and they don't treat you very nice. They don't acknowledge you, they act like security guards; they follow you with their eyes trying to catch you shoplifting. The staff is always occupied with friends hanging around chatting by the register. When I am ready to pay they seem to be bothered by my interruption. The tattooed latino is OK, the cooky lady is more friendlier, but the fat bald guy is the worst (I wonder if he is the owner?), he did not allow me to browse or purchase a past magazine (The Hollywood Reporter) they had in the "return" shelf, that's when I stopped going and stopped giving them my money, that was 2 years ago. Here they don't strive for customer service, they just want to hang out, chat with friends and make their 8 hours go fast.
Poor service, unfriendly, no smiles or greeting, grumpy cashier (the fat bald guy only). I don't recommend this place. Go if you just want to make your purchase and leave, but if you like to take longer, looking at everything, this place is not for you, they will make you feel uncomfortable.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
