Work & Class is a casual restaurant and bar with the concept of a square meal, a stiff drink, and a fair price. My companion and I arrived shortly after 8 PM on a Tuesday evening. We were promptly seated at the counter near the kitchen, which was fantastic as the chef offered us samples of the Chickpea Croquettes and the Coriander Roasted Colorado Lamb. The croquettes were flavorful, and the lamb was flawlessly cooked.
I chose the Roasted Goat, Grittled Goat Cheese Masa, and Spices Fried Sweet Plantains for my meal. The goat was tasty, but I would have liked it more if it was served as stewed meat instead of being shredded. I regretted not choosing the lamb. The masa was okay, but since I'm not a big fan of masa, I wondered why I ordered it. The plantains were extraordinary, slightly spicy, and came with a chipotle sauce for dipping.
My friend opted for the Lemon Brown Butter Rotisserie Chicken and the Wisconsin Cheddar Mac & Cheese. She thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. I sampled the mac & cheese and it was among the best I've ever tastedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 8, 2024
It was our first time here so we went pretty hard! We ordered a lot for the table just to try as much as possible, and had a ton of leftovers. Our waitress was great and checked on us throughout to make sure everything was OK. The restaurant is pretty small so they do communal dining to optimize space--we were at a six person table with another couple.
To start, we ordered the empanadas and the lamb stew. The lamb stew was unique, you eat it with chips, and I liked the flavors. The empanadas were my favorite though, I literally could've eaten a bunch for dinner and just called it a night.
For our entrées, we got one of the trout, and the braised short rib. It seemed obvious to me that the fish would be a whole fish, but just in case, please note that this bitch does have a face still attached. Lol. Honestly, both of our favorite part of the meal were the sides, we got mac & cheese, brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes, and a caramelized onion/greens side. The mac & cheese was insane, another thing I could've eaten for dinner on its own. But the vegetable dishes did not disappoint either!
Apparently, they have a great happy hour, I would like to go back and experience that! I got one cocktail and I like that you can pick which spirit goes in-- I got the cucumber mint lemonade, and ordered it with rum.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 1, 2024
Great BBQ palce! Friendly staff, communal seating, lively place. We got lucky, got a seating next to the kitchen, and we were offered some amazing samples from the chef (lamb and croquettes).
I normally hate lamb, but I want to order it next time! We decided to get brisket and chicken, with sides of mashed potatoes with bacon and goat cheese and seasonal veggies. Everything was absolutely great.
The potatoes surprised us with strong smokiness. We finished with a blueberry cobbler, and it was amazing, too. There are no reservations, so it makes sense to come earlier, get your name on the list, and grab a drink on the opposite side of the street, depending on the time you have. Most of the menu if gluten free.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 29, 2023
I can't even explain how amazing of a dining experience we had at Work & Class! Jam packed on a Friday night, I figured we'd try our luck at walking up and snagging a table for 2. I was mentally prepared for a long wait, but to my surprise "we have a table available now" was spoken from the hostess!
Our waiter was phenomenal, and thoroughly explained the dining process and gave some recommendations!
Every bite was incredible, but the star of the show for us was the shrimp and grits!
My wife, who does not eat grits agreed that it was the best dish of our trip to Colorado!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 9, 2023Updated review
Had a nice meal at Work & Class the other night. Gotta love Dana Rodriguez, the owner/chef. She's passionate, talented and so hard-working, as is her staff. I can only hope that her newest venture (at Casa Bonita!) works out well for her.
Had a chance to go to a tasting meal at W&C the other night and it was a fun, and good to very good experience. Some of the dishes were great (I'm talking to you Fig Tart, to you Ms. Massive Attack salad, and to you, Cajun Shrimp/Grits. Others were good (the Lamb and the Blueberry Cobbler).
Fairly priced wine and drinks menu (loved the pineapple and jalapeno margarita).
All in all a good time was had by everyone. The place has been around now for a long time and deserves a spot on your list of fun and well done places to go.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 18, 2014Previous reviewFinally got to get in to Work & Class without being told that the wait time was over 1/2 hour. Went with some other W/C virgins (who also don't have any work or class;) and we all really enjoyed it.
Started with a Pimm's Cup (my new favorite semi-light-aperitivo-esque kinda summer cocktail) and loved it. Followed that up with splitting the $14 (gulp) Pepper Five Ways appetizer, and glad I splurged. My buddy and I really liked the jam, the shishitos and the bacon wrapped jalapenos. And the (peck 'a:) pickled peppers worked as a good set-off to the spiciness of the jalapenos. My baby, who had the Massive Attack Salad with her girly-friend loved it. But what really stood out was the Coriander Grilled Lamb done exactly as ordered (med. rare). Simply bursting with rich flavor and juiciness, everyone who ordered it raved: A spectacularly simple and elegant hunk-a-chunk-a grilled lamb. Will definitely order it again.
Shared the Butterscotch Pudding and Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert. Both were very good, but not as mind-blowing as the dinner-in-chief.
Bottom line: If you can get a table without having to wait for too long (they don't take rezzies), then absolutely go and enjoy. The patio's a great place for a summer meal, and the folks who ran the place were truly sweet and efficient. - Richard R.Northwest, Denver, CO01Apr 22, 2024
This place was hopping! And as I would find out later, for good reason. The food was fantastic, the service was attentive, and on time, Sitting overlooking the food being prepared was like watching a carefully! choreographed dance, Really great experience and I would love to go back again!

On a Friday night, it was a 20-minute wait for 2 at 7 p.m. Super loud and packed. It's a great spot to catch up with friends over delicious food and drinks. It might be a little too loud for date night. We barely could hear each other and we were 2 ft away from each other. This is family style. Portion-wise, we were okay with 2 apps, 2 meats, and 2 sides. Service is friendly and quick! Anytime there's an empty plate, it gets snatched up. There's indoor, covered outdoor, and bar seating available.
MUST TRY: Mac & cheese, Massive Salad, Empanada, Fried Fish, Lamb
SKIP: Cornbread (really dry)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alyssa M.New York, NY1564Dec 31, 2023
Showed up with three minutes (5:57) to spare for Happy Hour on a Wednesday. This turned out to be solid timing on our part.
I ordered a "Summer Cocktail" which is a gin drink in between an Aperol spritz and a Campari. This drink is a porch pounder, you guys. It's so light and refreshing. I'm having another one instead of my usual white or red wine with my meal.
Appetizer portions are huge on HH menu. We got the spicy chicken pot pie and lamb egg rolls. They use the left over lamb from the Coriander Roasted Leg of Lamb (on the main menu) to make these egg rolls and OMG. They are delicious. They looked beautiful and tasted beautiful. Nice crispy egg roll with delicious lamb and super duper finely chopped carrots. Our only complaint on these were there wasn't enough of the crema to dip these suckers in. Less than a minute later, our waiter asked us if we would like more crema for the egg rolls. Uh - Yes Please!
The chicken pot pie appetizer had the flakiest more delicious "pie" to top this bad boy. The chicken was juicy, moist (sorry ladies), and amazing. It would be hard to pick a favorite from the two Happy Hour appetizers we ordered.
Service here is not just on point. It's above point. Spencer was super knowledgeable and provided thoughtful suggestions when we asked.
Did you know Work and Class has a "Wait Drink" for four bucks? Have you ever heard of that? This is a brilliant concept especially since they do no take reservations.
We ordered the lamb shank and brisket for our protiens and mashed potatoes and greens for our sides. The mashers melted in my mouth and the bacon just put these over the top. While I love collard greens, I'm not typically a huge fan of kale but the kale in the greens we ordered was downright uptight. Lamb was the winner of the proteins tonight. Perfectly cooked and whatever sauce it came with was amazing. I used the leftover lamb sauce and dipped my mashers right in there. The brisket was the least favorite of the dishes tonight. W&C serves it cubed'ish, not sliced, and this Texas girl wasn't quite used to that. It was still very good, just not our favorite.
Thanks W&C for a great date night (on a Wednesday). We won't be a stranger...Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 1 - Oct 16, 2023
Place is awesome. Went to happy hour and ordered off that menu which was great. So I'm sure 5 stars will come once I have dinner there. Love the family style. Great great place. Get there quick. Happy hour starts at 5 and the people know this. So don't be shy get there early. I had the Lamb Pozole and it was heart and loaded. Very generous. Mario was our server. He was fantastic. As a matter of fact that place ran like a well oiled machine....tip of the hat to management!!
I shall return.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 20, 2023
I had visited Work & Class once before in 2020, and found it pretty much the same as I remembered. My friend and I were seated right away (no reservation) on the front patio, although the restaurant was very busy on a Friday night. They had a small zero proof section on their drinks menu, which I can't find online, but we both ordered mocktails. Mine was delightful - citrusy and refreshing. The food menu consisted mostly of small plates, so we ordered three of those to share - the Ceviche, Blue Corn Empanadas, and Spiced Fried Sweet Plantains. Service was great and everything came out quickly.
The Spiced Fried Sweet Plantains were easily our favorite - perfect flavor, perfect texture. The Ceviche was good but not amazing, with a small amount of fish compared to the veggies. The Blue Corn Empanadas were unfortunately a bit disappointing. I appreciated that they were gluten free (very GF friendly menu, in general) but the blue corn dough was just not great. The filling was tasty, but unfortunately there wasn't much of it. I do remember the loving the Mac & Cheese and Brisket last time though - would return!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0
