Get your reservations early as the Wild Fish is a very small place at the back of a gas station / post office across the road from the Little River Inn. The dinner was outstanding and a testament to the chef's discerning selection of local fresh ingredients and creative recipes. Outstanding and friendly staff. Can't wait to return!

My recent dining experience at Wild Fish was nothing short of memorable. With every bite, I could taste the connections to local farms, fishing boats, and regional vintners. The menu offered wine pairings for each course, which I loved! The calamari served with blistered pasillas, chili lime aioli, and fresh herbs were light, perfectly cooked, and the best I have had anywhere. My Ahi Tuna melted in my mouth like butter. Artfully presented, the pepper and sesame-encrusted, Tamari glazed Tuna was draped over a variety of julienned, fresh vegetables that were tossed in fresh lime and Thai basil. All I can say is thank you Wild Fish for taking me on a memorable journey of flavors, from start to finish.

This review is regarding our $226.00 dining experience on 07/10/2021. Since 2015 whenever my husband and I are in Mendocino celebrating our anniversary we make it a point to have dinner at Wild Fish. After we first dined at the restaurant in 2015 we raved to all of our friends about the absolutely delicious food, service & ambiance. Flash forward to 2021. We had reservations for 8:00 pm and arrived about 10 minutes early. Five minutes after we arrived another couple arrived for their 8:00 reservation as well. This is where our experience went down hill. The couple that arrived after us was for some reason seated before us. I thought maybe they're regulars and let it go. Then I overhead them talking about visiting the area and realized they were visiting from out of town just like we were. As our waitress seated us they were were asking for water. Our waitress arrived and I told her we were celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary. We ordered wine and I ordered the chowder. The first spoonful was so hot I had to gulp my wine. Then the intense spicy heat hit and my face began sweating. The waitress had NOT mentioned the chowder was spicy. I almost spit it out. Fortunately, I like spicy and the chowder was good. My husband's sable fish entree was so hot it almost burnt his tongue! I thought it would be nice to have some bread. I realized that everyone had been offered bread except for us. I asked a waitress for some bread and she said "You want more?" I told her no that we hadn't been offered any. She seemed put out having to walk the 5 feet to the kitchen door to bring us bread. Despite chatting with the couple that arrived after us we were completely ignored. We were dressed for dinner and arrived in our Mercedes. That's when I realized that the stark differing levels of service was likely due the fact that I am Native American (hubby is white) the other couple were both white.
In the end our much anticipated anniversary dinner was ruined by the complementary side of racism.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Jun 25, 2017Previous reviewOnce again Wild Fish delivered beyond our expectations. We split a bowl of Crab Bisque it's the perfect portion and for an extra $2.00 split plate charge it was worth it. The Dover Sole in parchment once again was perfection. My husband had the Sablefish with polenta (there's a reason they call it butter fish). I tried a bite and it was sooo good. The fish was cooked to perfection. The polenta cakes were the best I've ever eaten they were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. For dessert we had the Mocha Pot du Creme and Hazelnut Semifreddo. Oh my goodness both were amazing. The Pot du Creme was sooo rich and creamy and the Hazelnut Semifreddo with Strawberry Coulis was to die for. The wine pairing selections that accompanied each dish was spot on. A guest at the table beside us had the whole fish and said it was delicious. The wait staff are amazing from the minute we entered. We will definitely be back!!

This was one of the best meals we had in Mendocino - food was wonderful and service as well. The location is funky - but they know their fish

I came to this place with my family (grandma, uncle and cousin) the food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was charming, the staff is extremely efficient and knowledgeable. It would be a great date spot, although there was a mix of couples and families (the food is that good!). Note, the place is quite small and is very busy so a reservation is a must. Note- if they added an awning they could create a cute patio in the front on the water to seat more people!

We were able to snag the last reservation at 8:30 for dinner. It is pretty small indoors, so expect it to be loud and tables in close proximity. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind cause we were in no rush. They were also very accommodating. The one entree I was interested in was actually out for the night, so they were willing to prepare my second choice the same way as the first choice. Of course, to get the best of both worlds, we also got the mixed oyster platter yum! I wish we had ordered more oysters. We left very content with our dinner and what this restaurant had to offer. So glad we ate here! Definitely a place I'd come back to.

Wow insinuating that I was littering in your herb garden is a pretty low excuse for having extremely rude staff and owner. (I don't know why I would be in your herb garden in the first place, and I definitely didn't litter) Whoever that person was (your co owner?) is truly a terrible person. Makes me wonder what other lies you've made up in response to negative Yelp reviews. Also makes me wonder if my poor treatment is due to the fact that I'm Asian. I've been discriminated against for being Asian all my life, I know how it feels. The way I was treated here feels like discrimination.

Dear SJ, we are so sorry your experience was disappointing. We understand that you wanted a takeout because you said you had a dog, so you could not eat in the restaurant - we could have rectified the problem of the seasoning not being to your liking if you had eaten it here. As it happens we did not know you were unhappy, so we could not make it right. For the time it took to get the order, we apologize. The chef estimated the time he thought it would take to be able to get to your order and then it took longer, so you went away and came back, and it still was not ready. We apologized and recognized that it was longer than we had estimated. We did not mean to upset you by asking you not to litter outside the restaurant, and when you clearly looked upset and let us know that you were not happy, we apologized - we maintain the little herb and flower garden and we ask anyone who picks the flowers or litters there to please not do so. The last thing we want is to upset anyone, regardless of who they are. Sorry we did not do well for you - and did not have the chance to make it better. We know you do not live locally, but if you did visit the area again, we hope you will give us another chance, as it means a lot to us to get it right.
Jun 1, 2014Previous reviewThe food here is ok, expensive for what it is. We ordered the salmon and the crab. The secret ingredient in the salmon was apparently salt, the crab had no salt at all. The portions were small, which is fine except the flavors of the food is not at all sophisticated enough to justify their price. I give the food 3 stars.
The experience here however, is extremely poor. 1 star. The service is slow. The worst is how I was treated in the parking lot by the owners. Long story short, let's just say it is very seldom I'm treated this poorly in public, they might treat their customers nicely but when they thought I was just some random tourist... They are horrible people, rude and unapologetic, making unfounded accusations like I'm some kind of criminal. - Kirsten D.Seattle, WA1366Jul 26, 2021
Fantastic food! The service was a bit slow, but the food was so amazing it didn't matter. The sea bass was fantastic and so was the heirloom tomato, peach and house made ricotta salad. Oh and the deserts were incredible too!

Food was good, service a mixed bag of beans. Like other reviewers noted, the sable fish hits a spot. However, our interaction with the hostess felt transactional at best and they declined our request to sit outside for... Really what surmounts to "it's too much work" (they do have table outside) despite what the business stated here on yelp. Every negative review here about "rude obnoxious lady in front" and "restaurant not prepared for outdoor dining" is exactly echoed in our experience. If you believe your hard earned money should be exchanged for a satisfactory experience, I would not recommend this place.
