I love visiting local coffee shops when I travel and White Heron did not disappoint.
I got an iced rose matcha latte with oat milk. The matcha wasn't too sweet or too butter and the rose flavor was noticeable but subtle. The turkey, cheddar, and roasted tomato sandwich was good too. Employees were friendly.
The interior is small but has plenty of seating. Parking can be tricky as the lot is tight, but otherwise I enjoyed coming here and would like to visit again next time I'm in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Julie R.Houston, TX49122Apr 28, 2023
Great friendly service, flavorful and healthy vegan options from sandwich to bowl and the tea is top notch.
Tried the brown rice bowl with peanut sauce and tofu. And the peach iced tea. You could taste they were made with love.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 23226215Jun 30, 2022
I love being in Maine because everything is a bit more eco-friendly. This goes for straws and to-go coffee cups. So I stopped for a cup of coffee and (sadly?) could not resist the GIANT Molasses triple ginger cookie. I tried a wee bit of the Mexican which seemed a little bitter and thought, bah, the coffee is not going to be great. But I filled my cup with the Honduran blend and it was EXCELLENT. I drink my coffee black and this was an unusually good cup---it actually had floral notes which is not anything I ever pictured myself saying. And the cookie was delicious. Like your Vermont grandmother (not to be too specific) baked it on her best day ever.
I'll be back for real food but this was a lucky find for me!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Stephen S.NH, NH13148183Apr 13, 2023Updated review
Love this West End tea, Coffee house and cafe. Service is fast and super friendly. The food is terrific. So many choices for coffee and tea. Ambiance is community focused and they sell Vinyl records. Great internet service and free. A west end must.

This place is so wonderful I went twice in one week! I wanted somewhere to work that had strong wifi, good coffee & tea and good food options and this place has all of that! And fantastically kind baristas! They also have a large selections of tea you can buy to bring home. There's ample seating and outlets. Def recommend!

This has been my favorite spot for coffee and a sandwich for lunch. I went in over the Noon hour today and ordered lunch to sit down. Had to change it to "to go" as all tables were taken. What was frustrating was that at least 4 tables were occupied with people working on laptops with no food or beverages. Another 2 stools at the window bar were the same. No big deal at other times but should not be allowed over the lunch hour. Next time I'll check first and leave if I see the same.

Hi Mike, thanks for your feedback and support. We are thankful to have a full dining room and a parking lot most of the time, but it also has a downside. Oftentimes folks we'd love to see can't get a spot. We added 2 more tables and some seats yesterday, but we are limited by a 39 seat cap. The idea of limiting Wi-Fi has been floated, but so many folks are working on laptops now that it doesn't solve the problem. We have put signage on the tables in the past asking folks to be courteous to other customers by limiting their work time at the tables.
We'll keep working on solutions. Meanwhile, hopefully you can find a seat next time. Also feel free to let us know if this comes up while you are in the building. Sometimes a single person might be at a 4 person table that we can split into (2) tables. Let us know how we can help. We appreciate your feedback!

Phenomenal for so many reasons. The tea and coffee are great. The food is very good. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff are the heartbeat...and are a healthy, happy and they make it what it is. Phenomenal.

I feel like they microwave the eggs and the lunch sandwiches are okay. If they stepped up their food game it could be pushing five stars.

Parking is tricky, especially when it's busy. It felt like a Jenga puzzle to get in and out again.
I loved the assortment of teas. I bought a vanilla black loose tea that I'm looking forward to trying. The set up of the store is pretty cool with a huge selection of vinyl before you get to all of the tea and coffee products.
I went with a half chai/half coffee iced drink that was quite delightful. The two flavors worked surprisingly well together. I also purchased a peanut butter whoopie pie. This went really great with the coffee but wasn't as tasty as I expected.
Later, when walking around downtown Portsmouth, I saw a Mexican restaurant with a sign featuring their products. I would definitely return, perhaps at a quieter time of day to avoid the parking issues though.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 9, 2019Updated review
Coffee. Community. Noise. WH is the epitome of the community coffee/lunch shop in the Portsmouth West End: friendly staff, healthy menu, and bustling with area workers and gatherings nearly any time and day of the week. Food can be pricey, but good quality and varied.
Beware of coffee house telecommuting here. WiFi can be flakey and there is far more bustle and noise here than an otherwise calm exterior demeanor would suggest. High ceilings and tons of glass mean those on the other end of your calls may think you're Billy Madison going back to school, when its just area families stopping in with an entouraage of children untamed by delicious, organic munchies. In short: sound-deadening panels on the ceiling would do wonders, but in the meantime come here for the coffee, food, and community and just head elsewhere for calls or work.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 10, 2018Previous reviewCoffee. Community. Volume. However, coffee house telecommuters beware: WiFi can be spotty and there is more hustle and noise here than Abba in an Old Navy commercial. High ceilings and lots of glass mean those on the other end of your calls may mistake you for Billy Madison going back to school, when it is often just area families stopping in with an entourage of children impervious to delicious, organic munchie bribes. I walk here with my pups on the regular. I always get the thunderosa smoothie, I get it so often they remember my name when I come in now! The staff is always warm and welcoming! It's always sunny and bright in there even on a dull day. So thankful to have them in the community
