The west side of the river is across from the city, but this stretch of riverwalk embedded in suburbia offers some quality views. Though the small parking lot dedicated to the amphitheater was full, I didn't have any trouble finding free street parking near the entrance. The paved trail runs a couple of miles and offers sights of both South Carolinian greenery and industrial architecture. A covered bridge towards the end was closed off for some reason. The waters were high when I visited, but the path was never inundated. It was certainly worth a walk.

After a morning out at another event, my family and I stopped by the West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater for a cool walk. This park is absolutely beautiful!
There are scenic views of two bridges, an amphitheater, a picturesque walkway, and stunning views of the Congaree River. The park is serene and set up for a cool walk, run, or stroll.
It is definitely worth visiting!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 12, 2022
My beagle bestie and I explored the West Columbia side of the riverwalk today and discovered lovely walkways, unique artwork, and the beauty of nature. It was a sunny, warm day to take this easy stroll. Other walkers, dogs, and cyclists shared this experience. Plenty of benches positioned throughout when it's time to take a break and just sit by the river for a little while. Plenty of room in this outdoors spot for everyone.

Wonderful Walking Experience
This riverwalk goes on for miles and miles along the Saluda River, the Broad River and Canal, and the Congaree River. We did 2 separate portions of the Congaree and both were wonderful. The walkway is well maintained and the scenery is beautiful. Both portions provided continual views of the river, with some side trails right down to the water. On the land side. there was either native forest/vegetation or (closer to the city) beautiful homes. The elevation changes are mild. Rest areas (bathrooms) are available along the way.
We would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to get a little recreational walking or running or biking.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 217663495Apr 4, 2020
This is a wonderful peaceful riverside paved pathway in Columbia. Filled with art, history placards and beautiful house spotting, it's easy to get exercise and while away several hours. We spent about 3 hours exploring on a drizzly morning. It was the perfect diversion and oh so relaxing. We wish we'd had time to come back and go for a long run here.

If it's not flooded it's a great place for a run or leisurely stroll with your family. Rarely will it flood but it is a possibility so keep that in mind before heading out for you trip. Always safe with a park ranger present or a police officer parked in the parking lot which has limited space. Certain wood cravings are to be found if you keep you eye out for them while walking taking in the nature scene. Unique insects like spiders can be found certain times of the year. Small wildlife like raccoons is not uncommon in the early hours. Well behaved pets are welcomed , mostly dogs. You will get great views of the Gervais St. bridge and beautiful views of the river flowing along the many rest stops and benches to take a rest or relax away from people. The earlier you arrive it's most likely there will be less people you will encounter. But runners and bikers are present so keep your wits about you and be courteous and you will have a wonderful time.

Great area to check out! My family went on a two mile stroll here, but the road continued! I'm so curious to know how much further the route continues. You have an outdoor gym you can play on, there's a dog park, lawn chairs, and a route for all walkers, joggers, bicyclists and other athletes. I want to come back here for a run. I highly recommend you come here. We visited when it wasn't too hot, but just cloudy enough that it didn't rain us out.

Great place to walk, run, bike, swim, or drop in a kayak. I saw people doing all of these things! Lots of singles, couples, and families out. Plenty of trees for good shade on the walk. In my opinion it's a much more enjoyable walk than on the canal side of the river just because there's more shade and pretty things to look at (lovely houses line the side opposite the river), but it is a bit more hilly than the other river walk. There's also lots of free parking across the street here, though it can fill up on the weekends when the weather is nice.
