There are not enough good words to describe my experience here. My husband and I wanted a weekend away and the Wagon Wheel Ranch was part of that weekend. The other couple that was scheduled for the 90 minute ride never showed so it was just us and our two "guides" AKA true cowgirls.

Sam took our camera numerous times and got really interesting (and great) pictures. So nice to have someone volunteer! This was our first time on a horse and it was the perfect pace for us. My husband's horse tried to gallop a couple times but it was easy to stop him (much to my husband's dimsay ;) heh). The scenery was gorgeous, company amazing and entire experience was fantastic. Agree with the previous reviewer- the cookies and lemonade were to die for.

$40 for 90 minutes of riding- can't beat that!

the wagon wheel ranch is the best!
Sam the owner takes personal interest in seeing that you have a fun and great ride or lesson. I rode Big Ticket ( horse) on my last ride and experienced the western saddle ride up and down the beautiful vista's of this working Ranch; we had a great time and lots of fun even for city slicker's...! The ranch has also Angus beef and cattle around.
Lessons for our daughter are given in the new riding rink that is covered and let's you ride on bad weather days.
Great job Sam and the team of the Wagon Wheel Ranch, we will recommend you to all our friends.

We just got back from a 2.5 hour ride at the ranch. Our experience was okay, Amy, our guide offered to take photos of us while we rode on the trail. The only thing that marred our ride was that my boyfriend's saddle slipped to the side of the horse he was riding through the creek, the horse then spooked and galloped off and ended up throwing him off against a tree. His back is scraped up badly, very tender to movement, and showing signs of bruising. Even Amy looked very bewildered by what happened. Hopefully we won't have to make a trip to the ER between today and tomorrow.

Best trail rides in the area! The property is heaven on earth, it just doesn't get any better!! I love that they don't do head to tail riding, it's riding the way it was meant to be. They have a large selection of good safe horses. Sam, the owner is a lot of fun & her trial rides are never boring! I can not say enough about their gorgeous property, riding in huge rolling wide open fields with deer & cows all around you, woods & streams, they have it all. It's a great family, owned, operated & working ranch. I sigh with envy every time I think of the place, it's a must experience.

Fantastic Riding. Both Gracyn Sharples and Sam Shapp are one of the reasons why we would go back. These ladies are awesome. The horses are well kept and look happy. I am looking forward for the weather to warm up a bit to return to ride with these spectacular ladies. They make the entire experience worth every minute.

      Thank you!!!

Awesome experience with the family. I HIGHLY recommend their trail ride. I brought my kids ages 13, 7, and 5. The guide even took pictures of everyone with a beautiful mountain background. The pictures turned out great. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back.

Had a great time at the Wagon Wheel Ranch. Our Trio arrived a few minutes late but called on the road to let them know and they waited for us. As my friend, the driver, sped in a bit too fast, she was teased most of the ride. It was a great experience for all of us. As said in an earlier review, Sam the owner really cares about the ranch and taking care of the riders and horses. She matched us up appropriately based on our experience (mine was minimal). She took everyone's cameras and between her and Anthony took pics of us along the ride. The pics which we did not really review until we got home were wonderful.

Sam is extremely knowledgeable about the history and provided some wonderful stories about the ranch dating back to the Civil War.

Although the 15 year old with us had taken lessons as a child, he was instructed that he needed to wear a brain box (helmut) for the ride. Adults have the option, but children up to 17 have to wear one.

After the ride was completed Sam and Anthony provided ice cold lemonade in a shaded area to cool down. We also had the opportunity to sign the book.

Would definitely go again, but perhaps when it's a little cooler.

      First to Review

We were late for our 90 minute session so the guide, Sam, gave us a crash course on horseback riding. "Don't be stiff, and pull the reins and say Whoa to stop. No head-to-toe." I can't imagine what else we might have missed in the tutorial, because that's all that the seven of us needed to know (The maximum group is 10). It was also really cool that she took my camera to capture pics during the entire ride! After we saddled up, we went up and down hills, through the woods, and around the 280-acre ranch. Since we had a few first-timers, I think our experience was more mild than wild. I wanted to gallop and be one with my animal but at times this was not permitted. Don't they know you can't control a cowgirl? It was a relaxing ride, we got to see a newborn calf, and the weather was beautiful that day. For the price we paid ($40) I would consider coming back for the lemonade and cookies we received afterwards (note: the cookies were made by someone who didn't work there). The horses were gentle and it's a fun place for kids.
