After reading some of the reviews about different experiences at this venue I was a little apprehensive. There seems to be some misconception about this club and an additional $5 cover charge. What some reviewers had failed to mention is that this charge is for patrons under 21 and it covers unlimited soft drinks. If you are going to see a band or group, doors open at 8pm and you will have to show ID at the door to receive a wristband for alcohol. Their website didn't correspond with the ticket start time, so I ended up going to the show a little early just in case; there is also no phone number on the site to verify any information. Some people have complained about the bouncers that work these events. The only thing I witnessed during the show was people acting stupid by trying to smoke weed or cigarettes. If you get caught doing either, you're removed from the show. In most instances if you are going to act like an ass you are going to be treated like an ass.
Pros: Good venue for an intimate experience with your favorite band. Get there early because it is standing room only. I didn't purchase any alcohol so I can't really say what pricing is like. There is also an upstairs area that does not have seating, but provides a decent view of the stage.
Cons: A very small venue, which makes for a very tight and stuffy experience. No seating except for a little bench seat in front of the sound board area. Very small bathrooms and smoking area out front.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 13, 2017
This is located in the heart of the downtown action. It's a smaller venue which makes it GREAT if a music group you like is playing here. I had no issues with the staff as some have mentioned - maybe the bad seeds are all gone? The folks behind the bar were hard working and friendly. At the end of the night when I switched to water they always got me a glass with a smile, granted I had been tipping well before that.
The sound was great and the intimacy of it being a small club was awesome. It appears that I missed out on the food, reading the reviews, the mac 'n cheese looks like a show stopper. My loss! We had a blast.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Mar 4, 2019
This venue is very intimate, but that has both positive and negative parts to it.
I decided to come to this venue to see Bryce Vine because the West Hollywood show was sold out. I found out some good information about the venue on yelp but felt some parts need clarification.
Parking: I came to a show on a Sunday so this didn't apply to me. The surrounding areas of the venue are 75 mins up until a certain time. I believe it's til 8, except Sunday. Even then we did have to park a few blocks away. There was a parking lot we passed, but there were cars waiting to park.
Admission: I used my phone for my tickets and was no problem. There are no ins and out so be aware of that.
Bathroom: typical of a small venue. There are only two stalls in the women's bathroom so be prepared to be waiting in a line.
Bar: is place in an awkward place on the opposite side of the lighting and sound board BUT this is also the only area that you can drink. So it gets crowded FAST. Luckily I was able to get a nice spot right behind the lighting guy and was still able to see everything clearly.
Not 21: if you are not 21 you can only be upstairs in the balcony or in the front. You aren't allowed to walk through the bar area.
food&drink: their drinks are not too pricey but I am from LA so I'm used to expensive drinks. I was told there was a place to get Mac and cheese but unfortunately didn't wanna lose my spot so I'll have to check them out next time.
Overall this venue is awesome mostly because the intimacy of it. I saw Bryce super up close and I wasn't even in the front area. If you are looking for a small venue with limited space but up close to an artist, this is the place for you!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 639128415Apr 30, 2017
Disclaimer: I've only ever tried this place while under the influence of alcohol.
Good Mac and cheese. Helps ward-off your hangover. Toppings can sometimes be a little cold even thought the mac and cheese is nice and hot.
Would recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 6, 2018
So I was so exhausted I fell down 2 times because it was so crowded inside but instead of them kicking me out and letting me get in trouble, they picked me up and brought me water and gave me a seat while I sobered up a bit and get ready to call an Uber home.
I'm really grateful that they make sure you're okay before you head off! It's rare to find people in this industry that really goes out of their way to take care of you when you've had a bit too much to drink! I appreciate it!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Trang T.San Francisco Bay Area, CA667152Sep 6, 2017
NOTE: I'm only basing this review off of the food vendor post at the front and not the actual venue itself.
I've been here twice, once a little buzzed and another time completely sober. In both experiences, I got the mac and cheese with tater tots and it was a godsend. You don't have to enter the venue to buy the food -- it's a counter right outside the building. It only operates when the venue is open however. I commend creativity as a valuable part of the food experience and Velvet Jones definitely gets creative. After a night of clubbing and drinking, there's no better way to end the night than to get some warm mac and cheese from here. It can get expensive depending on what toppings you want to include, like crushed cheetos and tater tots, but you do get a lot for the money. It's a fun experience to walk here after the bars to indulge in some good old comfort food, and it's a clever money-maker to have this service in this location and this time.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jimmy R.Goleta, CA445018Apr 20, 2018
For a local show I try to come to Velvet Jones, I've seen two shows here to far and it's a great place to go, their beer is cheap since it's also a bar, they have great food creations (only down side is that the special yummy food is only on certain days) the Venue may be small, but it can fit a surprisingly a lot of people, I've been in the front and in the bar area and I had a great time both times, there is one flaw, there bathrooms are next to the stage, so it's a hassle getting to it, but the bathrooms themselves are clean; unless there is a second bathroom I don't know about.
If you're trying to catch a show or wanna check out the downtown Scene, Velvet Jones is a great place to go to! Definitely would go again!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Patrick M.Eagan, MN14016070Sep 18, 2017
So paying thirty bucks to get into see a musician doesn't mean you're going to be able to, you know, see the musician, because the layout virtually ensures you can't see the stage.
The spots where you can actually see the musician you've already paid to see? The spots with an actual view of the stage? Those are "VIP spots." You have to pay more for those. If they forget to rope them off before the show and you just walk up and stand in them because you don't know their internal rules because, you know, you're (a) not psychic, and (b) you don't fucking work here, you can expect that they'll let you stand there long enough that you absolutely won't get a decent spot elsewhere, then run you off. Even if, say, they haven't sold any of the overpriced VIP tickets, they'll just let the one corner where you could actually see the band you've already paid to see stand empty in the hopes of upselling you by charging you extra for something you thought you already paid for.
Why? Because fuck you, that's why. If you don't start out by paying as much as possible for your ticket, you're a piece of shit and deserve whatever you get.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nathan L.Los Angeles, CA2464Jul 2, 2018
All I have to say is I didnt expect much. I came to an event that wasn't even my scene. The bartender.... Hopefully I got his name right. P.J.
As a bartender myself... He was brilliant. Not only did he know every single drink I threw at him. He made every one impeccably. With personality in spades.
Hell... Go here for the service alone. Totally worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - PJ K.Santa Barbara, CA49817Jan 16, 2018
This place is fantastic! The staff and venue are both top-notch. An excellent place to see live music. The drinks were tasty, not expensive. The lighting and sound were professional and impressive.
The bartenders served up great drinks with a smile. Just a fun atmosphere and will definitely be back!
Also, the best Mac and cheese in town....Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
