I would like to update my review as I'm proof reading through my last review. Trying to copy and paste the actual ingredients. To allow the readers to see what's in the entrees I see many mistakes I had made for the collard greens Thai wrap which were delicious....and doubled the pad Thai recipe..in any case ..I could not edit it after posting... amateur mistake...I do apologize..but I would like to add how good I felt the day after ..it actually was one of my best days ..it seems the food I eat causes a lot of issues with inflammation and her food I really felt good , not bloated and cleanse the next day.... So thank you for that....

I myself am not a vegan but I have a very open minded and have a diverse palette to be able to enjoy different types of food... So I had the pleasures of meeting the owner margarit as she also was preparing my meal. We ordered the loaded open-face burger layered with cashew cheese, caramelized onions, marinated mushrooms, carrot bacon and parmasian we also ordered the colored green Thai wrap almond-based variation of the classic Asian favorite. Served over zucchini noodles with carrots, cabbage, cucumber, green onion, chopped almonds, and sesame.A delicious almond-based variation of the classic Asian favorite. Served over zucchini noodles with carrots, cabbage, cucumber, green onion, chopped almonds, We then ordered the Pad Thai, which is an almond-based variation of the classic Asian favorite. Served over zucchini noodles with carrots, cabbage, cucumber, green onion, chopped almonds, and sesame... Of course we had to finish our meal off with a vegan dessert which was the Almond Butter Pie
A creamy blend of almond butter and banana over a brownie crust and topped with chocolate ganache and chopped almonds.... Each meal literally handcrafted labor intense prepared to perfection like artwork.... The menu believe it or not consist of all cold plates to ensure all nutrients of its ingredients.... I also tried their fresh squeeze juice. I had the pomegranate apple blueberry, orange juice. They're also all made fresh daily. They offer house made cheesecake with flavors which are never repeated
unless it's a holiday which would be pumpkin...Great job Margarite who would have known 13 years ago you would be pleasing many people with your fresh healthy delicious recipes... They are 100% organic Non-GMO and gluten-free.. - Jackie D.Park Ridge, IL383Feb 24, 2024
My husband and I are not vegan, but we appreciate good food, and Vegan Cafe is excellent. It was our first time in, and we were treated like good friends. The menu was completely explained to us, and we enjoyed a sample plate of several dishes. It was hard to choose. The Pad Thai with zoodles is delicious, and my husband raved about the sloppy Joe's. We took desert home. I highly recommend the almond butter pie. We will be back. We traveled almost 45 miles to get there. Worth it.

I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, and I came to this restaurant with a family member who is vegan and I have had vegan and vegetarian food before, but it was always hot. This is only cold food cannot see who would want to eat this type of food When it's cold outside and then having more cold food. Anyone can make salads and that sort of thing but I was not impressed with the food especially at the price point. Also, I would expect an establishment like this to procure fruit and vegetables from nearby farms, that is not the case, I don't even think all of the food there was organic which is a big letdown

We appreciate your comments and the time you took to review. We take suggestions to heart and make accommodations to improve our service in order to enhance your dining experience. I'd like to address a few of your comments/concerns. Our cafe is raw, vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, organic, refined sugar-free, hydrogenated oil-free, whole food plant based. We are one of 3 raw establishments in the Chicagoland area. We are all known for serving cold dishes. As our website and social media accounts indicate, the food is served cold or at room temperature. This is done in order to maintain the integrity of the vitamins, enzymes and nutrients of the food. Studies have indicated that raw food provides greater nutritional health benefits. We provide this information to all of our guests when they arrive. Additionally, we provide small tasting samples highlighting our more popular dishes. You are absolutely correct that anyone can make a salad. In addition to our salad options, we have a four page menu offering appetizers, main entree including burritos, flatbreads, pastas, and pizza. We are especially known for our nachos. Our desserts please the palate of both vegans and non-vegans. Yes, we are fully organic. We have a double door glass refrigerator as you enter the cafe where all of our produce is visible. All of the packaging states organic. We source from as many local farms as possible. But, please understand that there are few in the area that grow organic. We do support Windy City Greens in Lockport, who has a certified hydroponic, organic farm. It does become difficult during the winter months to source local and organic, at which point we purchase our organic produce from grocery stores. Our nuts are sourced from a certified organic supplier in Lisle, as well as Azure Standard coop out of Oregon. Our price points reflect the rising cost of the organic market. However, we are conscious of the fact that our menu prices need to remain affordable. As a result, we have absorbed many of these increases and have not raised our prices since 2021. We have also remained passionate about supporting local charities in the area. We take our proceeds, above and beyond operating costs, as donate back to animal rescues and homeless foundations. Know that when you support our establishment, we will not only provide healthy foods, but we give back to the community, as well. Please check our social media pages for special monthly promotions benefiting charities. We do appreciate that you gave us a chance and apologize that we did not meet your expectations. We wish you good health and a very happy new year.

Of course I recommend this business. The owner is super awesome and so is her husband. Be open minded trying raw food it's not HOT food. My bf hates raw food but enjoys the pastries. Said prefers them over cake so everyone I'm there I get two orders of turtles! Honestly the food to make is super hard so the price is fair for that I've done raw cooking and it's freaking difficult honestly. I been making it at home and had given up due to upkeep and not having a dehydrator. She also has helped her own health by switching raw. everyone's bodies is different.whether or not it's a life style for you or trying out def try the cold pizza and the collard wraps as a first time tryer.

Yummer Yummer in my Tummer!
A delicious, refreshing cafe - all dishes are raw, vegan and cold. If you've not had the opportunity for this particular type of restaurant, it is an actual pleasant surprise. I personally, have not had raw vegan food and my palate has now been enlightened.
This little gem is located in downtown Lockport - I haven't been to this burb yet (Mirella, you are taking me all over the place I LOVE IT ) but after going, my sister exclaimed, "Ah one of my favorite river-town suburbs.." This is located on a main street in Lockport with a lot of easy street parking.
My husband and I came around 2PM, which for an after lunch hour, the café was getting a steady stream of people. The servers were incredible - they greeted us, explained the dishes are raw and answered any questions.
We went with the Margherita pizza which was flax crust with a tomato type sauce on top. I was skeptical but it was REALLY REALLY GOOD!!! Flavorful, spiced just right and filling. The meal also came with salad and choice of fruit or brownie. My husband, being the demon he is, requested we try the fruit over the brownie. The fruit was a mix of apples and pineapples with a caramle drizzle on top. The salad was tossed with dressing added in. Quite an excellent, EXCELLENT meal.
They also have other options which looked delish including an extensive juice menu, nachos and basically a fully 2-3 page menu. The environment is cozy with brick walls, a REALLY cool ceiling (don't worry I took a pic) and music a-playing.
I enjoyed this cafe immensely and I love knowing about a vegan option not too far from me. I will be bringing my sister, who loves Lockport and has not tried vegan food, back here!! Thank you again for the wonderful experienceHelpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Aug 13, 2023
I was able to stop by with one of my kids who has food allergies and we sat down and ate a bunch of delicious food. I knew it was vegan (by its name), but I didn't realize it was raw. I haven't had a lot of experiences eating raw food so this was new. The food was really good. We ordered the nachos, pasta Alfredo, and the pad Thai. It was good, but it did take a little time to process that it was raw. For dessert we got the chocolate pie, which was phenomenal. We will be back for more!

Hands down the best plant based food I've ever had. Literally wanted to cry my meal was so good. From taste to presentation everything is a 10/10. Awesome service and ambiance. Owner served us personally. The love and passion she puts into her food as well as stories she shared made our meal that much better. Will be back!

An entire plant based restaurant is in a small unassuming cafe. It makes it worth going on a long drive over there for lunch and getting some good healthy eats. Vegan Cafe has a pretty limited inside area but it's never that busy thanks to its somewhat remote location in Lockport. Has a variety of styles including Mexican such as taco salad and also has desserts such as brownies. The prices are pretty high which is the only bad thing.
Came here for an all vegan date and had a good time with plant based food. It's only open for lunch and closes after a few hours. This makes it very hard to get to. Not only is it kind of far away. On top of it there's limited hours so it's only good for lunch, or early dinner if you go for an evening before it's late. Also it's closed Sundays and Mondays so hours are almost the worst thing about it. What is the worst thing about it are prices. I had the Green Juice. It's $6.95 for the regular. This is made with celery, chard, cucumber, ginger, green apple, kale, lemon, and spinach. It's very green. This is a good way to get vegetables. Both of us had a Taco Salad because it was among the cheapest food. It's $7.95 for the small. This has guacamole, pico de gallo, and vegan taco meat, over spring greens, topped with vegan nacho cheese and sour cream, so quite a lot of plant based stuff.
Good for an occasional lunch of eating healthy. It would be nice if they were open more often. The prices are also high and we would have got a lot more if they weren't so expensive for the bigger things.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0
