I love it here at Vanguard College !
I really appreciate how positive all the students are and uplift one another's talent and skill.
I've been going here since March of 2017 and have been coming back faithfully monthly.
I come on the 1st or 2nd week of the month to take advantage of my student discount!
I decided to come here because I was tired of using box dye and self bleaching and wanted to come here to ensure the health of my hair.
My first time here I was given a random stylist. She was pregnant and to be honest didn't look so positive BUT, she had me leaving feeling confident in my hair. It went from brown to a blonde , and she kinda helped me cover up the messed up part of my hairs
My second time back, I was blessed to meet Ms. Vee. Ever since, I've been seeing Her I have been so happy with my hair colors! She's given me the privilege to experience hella shades of blonde . When I first went to her, the school was out of bleach so she toned my hair out. The second time I went she brought me to a beautiful blonde. The third time she got me to an ashy blonde. The fourth time she got me to silver.
I think the students at the school are great! If anything my only concern is the lack of supervision from the professional staff. They are barely around and take awhile to get to you.
*Edit I no longer go to Paul Mitchell or see Ms.Vee as I see a professional stylist.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Violet F.Marrero, LA01Mar 21, 2024
So i came to get my hair done a week ago for a bleach and color and it was 130$ which was fine.. but i didn't get what i asked for, i wish i spoke up when i was there but my hair took really long to get done so i was there till they closed so i thought saying something while everyone's trying to leave would be rude, anyways i got pink and brown in my hair and i asked for chunky highlights and some brown parts in my bangs and i showed her where i wanted the brown twice and she didn't do it, my bangs look all pink because she put brown under my bangs on one side, then when she was dying the pink she missed spots and my roots are blonde, they gave me this lock in hair color that i use and i wash my hair in cold water like they told me to but now the brown is fading orange and the pink is now very light. I didn't expect this to happen after just a week and it also being 130$. the lady who did my hair was very sweet but i really don't feel confident with this hair..

I would give it 0 Stars if i could!
This Paul Mitchell school is horrible, i was kicked out for the wrong reasons. Months later they ask me to come in and they wanted to talk to me, they apologized for kicking me out for no reason, refunded me all $12,000 back and begged me and my family not to sue, not to mention they fired head of the school board, school director and teacher for kicking me out and also offered me a spot to come BACK to their school, i hate this school. This is the most horrible experience i've had in my life. This school fucked me over. I DO NOT Recommend this school. Save your money and go somewhere else. Not to mention, THEY ARE RACIST!
till this day, and you can ask paul mitchell, their biggest regret is kicking me out of this school.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jay C.Gretna, LA09May 31, 2019
If I could give 0 stars I would. I sat here from 10am-3pm asked for an ashy grey but told my girl I would be ok if we had to pick something else because I'm not picky on my hair. Five hours later I leave with dry, damaged BLEACHED hair. My hair also was not blow dried completely and had so much product in it that it was matted to my head (no joke) and it was not styled after. This place is a joke. Never going back. I have to get my hair professionally fixed and treated now.

Kaitlyn Gautreau does my color, cut and brows. She's awesome with color, even though she is still a student. My hair always looks like I've spent big bucks and it's always affordable. I suggest making an appointment. As a walk-in you will wait a bit, especially on a Saturday.

If you like waiting 3.5 hours to get a simple color, this is your place!
That color will include:
*Color all over your face.
*Having the person working on your hair constantly "walk off and forget about you."
*Listening to gossip about all the other students at the salon.
*Getting told you don't need a service you asked for.
*Finding out that there's no clean towels or Wipe Off in the entire salon.
I'd forgotten why I stopped coming here almost 5 years ago, now I remember why.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cyn P.New Orleans, LA7112254Apr 18, 2017
My mother had a Groupon for a haircut, single color, and thermal style. We understood that it is a school but the problem was in the supervision. The stylist was sweet and did a good job for being new and a student. That said my mother was told she would have to pay an extra $30 to finish her color and they didn't cut her hair at all. They need to get more organized. We won't be back.

I purchased the groupon as soon as I had seen it. I have went here a few times for highlights, awapuhi treatments, and ombré. The teaching staff and students are very professional and full of fun. You can tell it's a great learning atmosphere. So I had to return and was taken care of by Kaleka and her learning leader Ms. Lillian. I went for caramel highlights and they both worked to get the exact hue I wanted. My hair is soft and smooth. I would recommend this school for any service. Really happy with how accommodating everyone was with all that was going on!

I loved the cut and full color Kelly gave me today. She was meticulous and personable. This was my second visit to the school. They are very professional and attentive. Her supervisor recommended a dye without ammonia that was perfect on my grays. They also gave me great advice on hair care and some fantastic products. Tip them well, the students deserve it!

I am so disappointed with the level of skills these students are allowed to practice with. This was a first time for me and I wanted a simple Shampoo/Blow Dry. Ended up getting a color too which was a huge mistake. The stylist didn't really know how to round brush blow dry and left my hair almost damp to the touch. The color didn't cover the temple hair and was not the right color. On a second attempt the stylist knew even less about blow drying and two senior stylist had to blow dry for her...the color was almost orange and left my hair badly damaged. The students I encountered are not ready to be on the floor doing hair if they can't blow dry at a minimum. Using chemicals and causing permanent damage to someones hair is a terrible thing to do. I wouldn't bring my dog here. I even purchased products that are not helping my hair in anyway. Such a colossal waste of time and money!
