About the Business
The United Martial Arts Center for Health & Well Being has been open in Danvers, MA since June 1995, and is owned by Sifu Anthony Pasquale, a 5th Degree Black Belt and his wife, Sifu Rita Rose Pasquale, a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Together, they provide training for students of all ages. Although the main style taught at the academy is Kung Fu, the school focuses on self improvement and self discipline. The Martial Arts classes are designed to benefit both the mind and the body and our specialty is teaching people with little-to-no experience in Martial Arts & Self-Defense. We welcome all new members to come in to try a free class. Our instructors will take you step by step through several Martial Arts basics and self-defense techniques to help you evaluate and determine which of our Martial Art programs is right for you...

I felt compelled to write my review, because it appears there are some negative reviewers citing their inability to read an agreement or contract and then turn it around on the owners for their own lack of knowledge or ignorance.
What is really tragic is that given their short involvement with the owners or long term clients who make a huge investment of their time and whose children really find value in their experience, now comes down to a few bitter apples.
Therefore, I suggest that ANYONE who values experience, care, insight, and great training...come speak to those or read those reviews from people who have stood the test of time with the owners and the studio and find the total truth, not just partial reviews from those who have not invested the time or energy to really know the program, the clients, the owners or the history as such.
(Hint, hint...read Glenn M.s review....)

I have been meaning to write this for a few months, finally I have a chance!
My daughter has been with United Martial Arts in Danvers for 5 years. I really cannot say enough about Sifu Rita and Sifu Anthony, about who they are and what they teach in studio. First they make a great team teaching and coaching your child not only about Kung Fu, but also about leadership, life-skills and respect. In this busy world of today, it is very rare to find two people who care so much about children, and how their students will navigate through the difficulties in their adolescent and adult years.
As your child gets older and social groups become an issue (and it will), UMAC is the perfect place for them to gain confidence and the skills to help them manage tough times. UMAC gives you a place for your child to go where they are totally accepted by all of the students and there is so much respect between the kids it is really a comfortable place so your child will want to go. And the Sifu's are always will to help a child out that is struggling with a problem.
What is really amazing to me is that they are not only there for the kids but the parents to. They don't want to teach respect and not have it carry through at home and at school. If any parent needs help with a challenging child or situation, they are ready to step right in and help out. And the follow-up with the parents is great, they really want to make sure that what they are learning at the academy, is being practiced at home and school, they are very serious about this.
One of Sifu Rita's passions is fundraising for St. Jude. She does do this with the help of the academy, hosting movie nights, raffles, and she has an annual kick-a-thon. She helps the kids to understand why we fundraise and why it is important to help others out. While your child is NOT required to do this, most of them do and even fundraise on their own on behalf of Sifu. She makes fundraising fun and the kids get it!!
The skills that are taught at UMAC are so critical to our kids to keep them on the right path in life. I love the fact the Sifu Anthony uses many of his own life stories as examples of how martial arts helped him. It is priceless to watch the kids faces when he sits them in a circle and begins to talk, they are mesmerized! They really look up to him and want to be like him, he is their living superhero!
What more can I say? UMAC is a second home for my daughter where she loves train. The Kung-Fu lessons are vigorous and more important she is learning about how to steer her way thru life in a positive direction!
I cannot put a price on her happiness and what she has learned so far!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John W.Newburyport, MA1084Oct 20, 2011First to Review
AS a former martial arts instructor of a different school, and knowing Anthony Pasquale for a few years networking and through media sources I can relate to his excellent style of providing the kind of positive energy to those who are participating in the martial arts. Martial arts can be a way of life that combines peace, mind, body, and dedication and creates confidence and strength of heart. I know from experience that more kids who learn the ways of a good martial arts teacher become solid hard working and less problematic students as well as adults then they were before learning this unique way of confidence. I've seen many instructors and know that an instructor of martial arts needs to hold a high head and strong belief as they will be looked up to and I have no doubt that Anthony Pasquale and his methods are very solid and positive across the board.

I've know Tony and his family for well over 30 years and i'm lucky to know them. Tony and his wife is the type of people to help people in need and will go out of their way to help. Tony is a good friend and a mentor and it's hard to find people like that these days.

I had similar experiences as all of the previous reviews, almost identical! The Market America pyramid scheme and Motives cosmetics (part of Market America of course) is suddenly shoved down your throat after signing a 3 year contract for a child! The life lessons that are taught are fantastic but the training becomes too repetitive for a child who is competitive and wants to learn new things. It is a fantastic program in the beginning but dragging a bored child to a place they do not want to be for 200 bucks a month is insanity! Stay away from their contracts there is no way out! lesson learnd. I haven't taken my child in 6 months but I am paying fore it.

My son has been a student at Danvers Martial Arts since he was in 1st grade. It's hard to believe it's been 6yrs already. I have to say that he has absolutely loved every minute of it. The Sifu's are wonderful teachers, it goes way beyond learning how to punch and kick. If you're looking for a school to teach your children to be the best fighters, I have to be honest and say there are schools out there that are better. But, if you want to teach your child about respect for themselves and others, emapthy, commitment, and every other core principle that all parents want to bestow on their children, then this is the place. The Sifu's make learning fun, and the kids love it. Yes, there is commitment involved, but anything worthwhile takes commitment. My son has been, and continues to be a straight A student, confident, focused, and compassionate to others. Every year we are showered by glowing reviews from his teachers, and I'm truly proud of the man he is becomming. Thank you UMAC for having played a large part in putting him on the right path!
