Well, as the saying goes, if you're not a Gator, then you're Gator bait! If I am not mistaken, this is pretty much a cardinal virtue. Ok, I kid, I kid (but not really).
The University of Florida College of Pharmacy is ranked number 14 in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports. It currently has four campuses: Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, and St. Petersburg. The Gainesville campus is the main campus and the remaining campuses are the distance campuses. Jacksonville is arguably the most bad - ass one.
The Jacksonville campus is located within UF Shands. It is considered a more "urban" area of Jacksonville. I have heard of people getting solicited by the homeless, among other things, but I have not personally experienced any kind of solicitation. Imo, it's relatively safe during the daytime, especially since it's in a busy area. I'd still practice precaution of course. We also have security officers 24 hrs day/ 7 days a week. I have stayed on campus until midnight a couple of times before and the security officers have always escorted me to my cars.
Because we attend classes located within UF Shands, we are required to dress professionally when on campus during business hours. However, after 5:30 on weekdays, you can dress casually. You can also dress casually if you're on campus during the weekends.
One downfall about attending school in a building shared by other professionals is sometimes the area can get noisy. It can be an issue when you're taking an exam. Another issue is lack of ample parking nearby. Students are not allowed to park in the lot in front of school before 2:30. However, there are parking lots nearby that are within walking distance.
Last fall, the Jacksonville campus underwent a beautification. We now have a student annex area that includes two large conference rooms, a kitchen area, a partitioned quiet study room, and 4 small group study areas. Modern touches include ample sockets for electronic devices, walls that we can write on, and flat screen televisions with hdmi connections and other fancy ports. It's pretty sweet if I'd say so myself.
The kitchen area includes a fridge, sink, microwave, and a bar stool area. Alas, we do not have an oven. It's not like that's going to rain on my parade though.
The best part about the Jacksonville campus is our amazing the faculty and staff. The fact that we have such an awesome faculty and staff really trumps any issues I have with the school. Our faculty and staff gave us their personal contact number at orientation. It's really not a feigned gesture. They are really there for their students. As a smaller campus ( my class size is 37 students), everyone gets a little more tlc than uszh. For instance, during finals week, faculty/staff/students brought in foods for everyone knowing we're all busy studying for our exams. Minor things like that, here and there, that really sets UF Jax apart from other campuses.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0
