REMEBER ITS. BUSINESS FIRST.
ADVICE SECOND.
Operates like all of America: ON FEAR FACTORS
COUNTRY I'M HEADED TO: ETHIOPIA
BULLET POINTS
Another medical facility that has fancy advertisement to justify the $80 consultation fee.
Out of the numerous travel clinics in LOS ANGELES, these guys are super sellers of vaccines that are RECOMMENDED not REQUIRED by the CDC.
Most Insurance carriers(thanks a lot MPI Blue Cross) Do not cover any vaccines one might want to get. Exceptions to this rule or Kaiser Permanente for seniors and possibly your plan if you're with them. Check to see what your plans dates for international travel and vaccines with Kaiser.
For your country go here for actual REQUIRED Vaccines:
wwwnc.cdc.gov
Depending on your country, this web site identifies what is mandatory upon entering the country and what diseases you might contract or should be prepared for.
Julie was my nurse (yes, she was a certified RN)
Who went over my (previously filled out online which gives you $10 off of the $80 consultation fee) Medical information I have provided.
The map pictured below Julie was given to use was inadequate as it only showed a portion of Ethiopia around the major city Addis Ababa - if you go south outside of this line you miss an entire section of Ethiopia that also has issues with malaria, "meningitis and malaria belt" and yes rabies apparently. That was a big strike against this location not to have a proper map to be able to explain correctly.
yes I just mentioned rabies in Ethiopia apparently an estimated 2,700 people die from rabies . One of the highest rabies death rates in the world but the true number of deaths caused by rabies as unknown because the diseases under reported and rabies diagnostic laboratories are not established.
The human risk for rabies is directly linked to the high rate in dogs that are there which is why it is important to hit the disease at its core vaccinating dogs however of course they don't do that. So this one's really on you if you choose to personally take a hit on getting this vaccination it will cost you about $1500-1900.
Also the yellow fever vaccine is on shortage in the United States -so a French company sends it over to us but lists it under "experimental" when in actuality it's a terminology that has to be used to distribute it.
You can thank the FDA for their annoying harassment of this company that was initially here distributing what has been distributed for last 30 years for Yellow Fever. $250 btw.
Like I said in the beginning this is all a big business and they're using our shoulders as the canvas to stick it to us as usual.
Look below at photo for the vaccines I sucker fear punched myself into getting "just in case"
And after you figure out what you need and how much antibacterial everything you are taking, have a great trip!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brittani H.Monterey Park, CA72145484Jul 10, 2017
I came here for a typhoid shot ($97) and it took a total of 2 hours.. they only have walk ins Monday - Wednesday and Mondays are the only days available for some tests. ( I think the TB skin tests ?) so.. maybe that's why Mondays are extra crowded, so if anything I'd recommend coming in the morning on Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to try and avoid crowds.
There's parking in the back, but it was full when I got there.. because basically half of the parking spots are reserved for the employees and officers.. but there is street parking. When I got there the street was also full so I settled for having to walk..
Online, they have a price list that is "updated" for the vaccination prices.. however I paid $2 less than the listed price and I didn't have to pay the $50 clinic fee that they said was effective July 1, 2017..?
Along with the prices they have their walk in hours and a phone number telling you to call to make sure they have your vaccinations in stock... however when I called it said it'll only tell you if they have yellow fever vaccination in stock. So I just went .. and when I got there it said typhoid was out of stock on their window... but luckily the lady said said they did have it ..?
All I can say is be patient.. you'll get your stuff eventually..Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Diana Y.Los Angeles, CA432622414Nov 22, 2019
Super nice and quick in-and-out. They unfortunately couldn't help me with my Zika questions (there's no vaccine but I was hoping they had more info about countries to avoid but there is too little data) but they didn't charge me for their time trying to help me figure it out. For the record, I don't think they're fear-mongering, as another reviewer suggested-- the impression I got was that if you are in the business of immunizations, you're probably already predisposed to be extra concerned about disease, and that's exactly how they are. They didn't push any shots on me, just tried to help me with some research and they seemed to feel genuinely bad they couldn't do more for me. I'd go back if I actually needed shots in the future.

My insurance didn't cover most of my travel immunizations. I needed Hep A, Hep B, Typhoid, and Malaria.
My insurance covered the malaria ($5).
They didn't cover the other 3. I was able to get Typhoid at a pharmacy for slightly cheaper than this clinic ($20 cheaper).
The other 2 I needed to come here. I made sure to go by 10 am, as I had visions of horrid lines and wait time.
I was shocked when I walked in, and there was only one other person there. The prices were exactly as they stated on the website (meaning it's kept up to date). The workers are friendly and fast.
I was in and out of the whole place within 15 minutes. I won't go anywhere else should I need some immunizations in the future. They are closed on holidays, weekends, and Fridays.
There's a tiny lot, but there's also plenty of street parking.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 551908198May 28, 2014
When I realized I should probably get vaccinations for my overseas travels, and my doctor recommended this place because it'd be cheaper than what he could provide I cringed. I didn't want to wait hours in a busy clinic waiting to get shots.
I came on a Monday around 11am, and was out the door by 11:15 am.
Amazing.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - A K.Arcadia, CA2102Feb 27, 2015
I am planning a trip to Botswana in April and as I am a freelancer on a budget, have been looking for affordable options to get my recommended immunizations before the trip.
I found this place through the other yelp reviews and they were right on the money!
There was minimal wait in the reception area both times I went. The longest wait was at the cashier to pay for my immunizations. The nurse administering the shots was pleasant, courteous and understanding of the natural apprehension towards being stuck with sharp things. She was also amazing with the needle and after 5 shots, only one stung the tiniest bit (MMR and she warned me it would!).
I have had a phobia of needles for many years and on my second visit to this clinic, I can say with confidence, I am over it!! I still have one more follow up injection before my trip and I am not at all dreading it!
Prices are absolutely unbeatable and listed clearly on the website. Though be aware some shots require a series of injections such as Hep B and Rabies. Price is per injection.
The parking lot is small but there is ample free street side parking if it is full.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dixie R.El Monte, CA1774211Dec 16, 2016
Staff was super nice and informative. They took me right away, without an appointment, and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. They were really helpful in getting me prepared for my trip to Thailand.

I have been to this travel clinic twice now and have received fast and friendly service both times! Given how on top of things the staff are, I am literally in and out in less than 30 minutes.
Their website is up to date with current prices and after calling around, I can confirm that this is truly the cheapest place to go! It is crazy how expensive some other places are... The idea of paying for an "administrative" cost on top of a more expensive vaccine price is ridiculous to me! I am so glad I can count on this clinic to give me what I need at a reasonable price. Will keep coming back here for all my travel needs.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Asuthrn b.Annapolis, MD436133Dec 2, 2013First to Review
Very pleasant experience at the Travel Immunization clinic last week. When I turned into the parking lot, I originally thought I may have to use a side street to park my car, but lucked up and found a spot.
I arrived in the morning around 8:30 and left by 9:30. I did my research online ahead of time, so I knew the necessary shots for the countries I am visiting. You can go to http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel to learn this information. No appointments necessary.
My shots were not cheap $122 and $55 - both of which I paid for by credit card (they take MC and Visa (no American Express)) - the staff were friendly and addressed the questions I had.
Traveling north from Lake Street, the building will be on the left. You go to the red light, take a left and another immediate left and you will find the parking lot. There is a entrance on the back and an entrance on the front (those were the two I saw, so I'm not sure if there are others). The travel clinic is on the 2nd floor and if you enter from the bottom level parking lot, you will take the elevator to the 2nd floor and when you reach the 2nd floor you can exit to the left (there will be signs). Go to the window, let the employees know why you are there and they will ask you to complete a few documents. Once you complete those, staff will begin processing and ask that you go downstairs to pay for the selected shots. Once you pay, you are on your way back upstairs to wait for them to call your name for administering the shots. I waited maybe 10-15 minutes and after the shots were given, I was on my way. Whole process took about an hour. I now know where I will come if I need travel immunizations. Thanks to the Pasadena Health Dept for making things easy!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Luis M.Los Angeles, CA137391Nov 5, 2014
Quick and simple. Walked in and got my shots. Staff were very helpful. I was not sure which ones I needed and they were very patient in explaining the options.
