Q:
Are they all you can eat still?
A:
No. You may be thinking of Kome next door, which was shut down (possible health violations?). Tomo is a regular Japanese restaurant.

This place is good. It's always good. The seating area is ample and the food quality is consistent and for DC that's not typical. Try it out for yourself

We LOVE this place so much! It's our usual go to spot right before the movies! Technically this should should be a 4.5 star rating only because the arrival of the food sometimes is a bit slow. Between our party of 4, half of our table received our orders. My bfs brother and i had to wait for ours. Nice that we weren't charged for our 4 cups of tea and they were ok with 4 of our other friends that sat with us later on waiting for us to finish our food before heading out to see Dune Part 2!

I came here on a Saturday night with my family for dinner. The sign outside no longer works so I had no idea this place was still open. I'm glad I gave it a chance still. Though the tables are a little sticky, the food and the service here were better than I expected. All of the staff here is very friendly and they check on you regularly to refill drinks and make sure the food is ok.
All the food came out promptly. The rolls were yummy. The Negihama maki, dynamite and Philadelphia roll were eaten quickly because they were the first good items to come out. They were well-balanced in ratio. The Negihama maki was very meaty. The dynamite roll was fried well with delicious sauce. The Philadelphia roll had the cream cheese at the right amount to not overpower the rest of the ingredients. The Rambuda roll was unexpected because we had not had it before at other sushi restaurants. The avocado made it creamy and the sauce made it spicy in the best ways possible. Totally recommend. The salmon tsutsumi roll was the one we could've done without. The lemon slice on top of the salmon is usually refreshing, but for some reason it was a not that good. Maybe there was too much rice versus the salmon.
The wakame udon is one of the best presentation of udon I have seen. It has beautifully sliced vegetables and other toppings. The extra dollar for the seaweed was worth it. The warmth of the broth is perfect for the cold weather right now.
The bento dinner combination is generous and there are a lot of options. They also come with salad and miso soup. The teriyaki (salmon and chicken) needed more sauce. The vegetable tempura was not crispy. The salmon sashimi was fresh and a favorite. The California rolls were great and probably some of the best I've eaten as a side, which was surprising.
Warning: If you can avoid the bathroom, please do. You may lose your appetite. If you wait for the bathroom, you'll have a view of all the leftover food from previous diners and the dirty dishes.
Overall, I would come here again because for a sushi place, this place is affordable. The food is overall good. The staff is extremely friendly and make you feel welcome and taken care of. The location has a free parking garage.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3715753985Mar 31, 2023
Enjoyed our dinner after the movie, had the bento boxes. Enjoyed the pretty ambiance & happy calm atmosphere! Welcoming servers + plenty of tea offered and poured + fast service.
I had Tempura, rice, miso soup, salad- big portions. Was able to trade a couple of large shrimp tempura for a Saki maki roll - great meal.
Hubby had bento box with tasty teriyaki chicken , sashimi, saki maki - a large meal, his comment "everything was excellent ".
We slowly ate our meal and finally relaxed from a hectic day! Dine-in is great here- everything is fast and fresh.Helpful 6Thanks 3Love this 6Oh no 1 - Jan 21, 2023Updated review
Came back again because we were here watching a movie, and it was convenient.
Tempura was overbattered and cold. Gyoza was also cold. The beef teriyaki was a korean beef bulgogi (see picture) and not "beef teriyaki" like per the menu. Beef teriyaki is strips of beef like rib eye in sauce, not small flaky pieces of beef. The rice was also cold and hard. Like for real, this place needs to work on their food.
Cold fried food is never good.
Gyoza was cold and hard, like it had been sitting out for a long time then served to us.
Edaname was straight up cold and tastesless. Not warm and slightly salty.
Found the real California this time, but for $13 it was expensive and plain amd small.
Be prepared to spend $27 for a lackluster bento box for dinner. Dinner of course was may more expensive than their lunch prices.
They need to step up their game. Work on serving hot food hot, and making sure that things taste good. No one wants overbattered cold tempura.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Nov 30, 2022Previous reviewLocated near the movie theater this place is convenient and there's plenty of free parking in the garage.
Their prices are okay. They're just trying to survive.
I felt their tempura was tasteless and like warn. Their beef teriyaki was overcooked.
My coworkers chicken teriyaki was very dry.
Didn't try their sushi because we were worried about the freshness. Also, they use imitation crab. - Aug 30, 2023
This restaurant offers a variety of Japanese dishes ranging from sushi to katsu to rice bowls. Came on a weekday evening and the place was still pretty busy. I ordered the 10pc nigiri special and the quality of the fish was fresh. It was a bit overpriced for very average sushi and the service was slow & not very attentive. Wouldn't be my go to spot but not a terrible option if you need somewhere to eat in the area.

One of our favorite restaurants in the city! Mike is one of the best sushi chefs and they have the finest quality of fish with their sushi rolls.
The Dreamgina, spider roll, 49er roll, dragon roll, spicy tuna, albacore tataki, and miso soup are always our favorites.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 20, 2023
We went to see a movie next door and came here to get take out. The waitress/hostess that took our order was super sweet and attentive. The restaurant is very clean and the aesthetic was beautiful. It had a very modern vibe. Our food only took about 15 minutes, and the man that brought it out to us even apologized for the wait.
The food itself was amazing. We ordered sushi rolls and a beef rice dinner. Everything was GOOD! Fish was fresh and the size of the tekka and negihama rolls were big. The beef rice dinner was a huge portion! The 4 of us could not finish a meal of 2, and even have left overs. Definitely a place we would go back to! The price was pretty cheap too, compared to other Japanese restaurants.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 4, 2023
Tomo has always been one of those sushi places I know that I can go to if I want my simple 49er roll or Dragon roll.
Tomo has been one of those places that really is affordable for the price and is pretty well located since it's near two free parking areas in Daly City and is also near the movie theater.
The sushi in my opinion is great. The taste and the portions are pretty much great as well.
Good place to catch up with friends but also good place to take someone out on a date as well.
The service is good. You're welcomed then seated, from there given good amount time to decide when to make your order and they usually serve your appetizers fairly quickly if ordered. Servers come by a good amount times for refills (water) and if everything went well.
Indeed I've noticed that staffing has dwindled comparing when I was there in 2020 but overall still doesn't affect there service.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
