We discovered Third Avenue Playhouse while walking around and exploring Sturgeon Bay. It became an impromptu date night when we saw they were performing "Candide" that night. I had read it in high school and enjoyed it then.
We came back and bought tickets that night for the show as soon as the box office opened (at six, I believe, and the show was at 7:30, doors opened at seven.)
This theatre has PROFESSIONAL ACTORS. And you could tell a huge difference from our little community theatre performances we like to attend back in Iowa.
Hands down. 100%. Gold stars. Would recommend spending a night at the theatre while you are on your trip in Door County.

We drove up from Milwaukee just to see their production of Bernstein's CANDIDE and it was more than worth it. It's a converted small town movie house, so the ambience is hardly prepossessing, but the experience of sitting in an 84 seat theater and hearing powerful voices do justice to a demanding piece was exciting. As Shakespeare's Globe proved long ago, a bare stage, a handful of props, and a few costumes are all that's required to set the imagination soaring in the hands of gifted professionals. Even so, it required a good deal of ingenuity to fit a show like this for a small cast and a tiny stage, and I admired the inventive staging almost as much as the individual performances.

Saw Dan Klarer last night in Every Brilliant Thing and he is certainly another entry on that list! With great yet invisible skill and humor resting on kindness, he quickly creates intimacy and community in the audience as he unfolds his difficult, uncomfortable subject. I'm a huge fan of Dan and his gifts, and I can't think of anyone better suited to illuminate the problems created by suicide. Playing through next weekend.

What an excellent theater!!!!! This my first time there and I saw Madame Sherry and I can't say enough good things. Excellent singing and performance and the cast greeted the audience afterwards. This was the type of perforce I would expect to see in a Chicago theater. I would, however, dress in layers as the theater is quite chilly.

We saw "I Love a Piano" and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Irving Berlin's music is great by itself but the four talented artists really brought it to life as Mr Berlin would have intended. The cast was obviously enjoying themselves as much as we were. I would have stayed for a second performance had there been one.

Don't let the small theater fool you! This is an amazing place!
This was my first time seeing a play at a small theater and had no idea what to expect. I saw an afternoon performance of The Glass Menagerie and was blown away. In the past when traveling to Door County we have seen the Peninsula Players, but we were so moved by the performance we saw at TAP that we will be heading there going forward.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John W.Prospect Heights, IL06May 1, 2016
What a great theater and what a fantastic performance by Lisa Rock and her Close to You tribute to the Carpenters.
