This is me and my boyfriend's go-to place for Filipino food. If you're looking for good Filipino food, then this is the place to be! The atmosphere is simple and feels homey.
Dishes we have tried at our visits are the Tocino Longanisa, Pork Shanghai, Kare-Kare, Bangus Sinigang, Chicken Adobo Fried Rice and Longanisa Fried Rice. Everything is right on point! I'm not a fan of Fried Rice, but their Fried Rice (Chicken Adobo and Longanisa) is delicious! Simplicity with the at its finest - meaning only the fried rice and chicken - with the egg on top. I don't like having it with the vegetables and additional meats. Whenever we eat there, we always order the Thelma's Special (lechon kawali with chopped onions and tomatoes) and Halo Halo with Ice Cream (ube-flavored). The Halo Halo is the best I've ever tasted, hands down. It's not too sweet and not too sour; it's just right. We always mix in the ube ice cream to make it creamier.
I would go to Thelma's just for the Halo Halo with Ice Cream, but we always end up going all out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chablis L.Honolulu, HI013Mar 9, 2024

If you have grown up getting Filipino food, this place hits the spot.
I don't like the adobo or pancit very much but the lechon was very good.
Overall I wouldn't come back unless I wanted some lechon.
Highly recommend the Thelma special. Service is authentic aunty service.

Thelma's in Waipahu has the best Filipino food that is not made by your mama or grandma .
Whether it's the Thelma's special, adobo fried rice or the pork gisantes. You can't go wrong. You need to come hungry to get your Filipino food fix.
There are lots of items to choose from. Food comes out nice and hot.
Staff are friendly and always comes by to see if you need anything. I do miss the buffetHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1215883605Jan 16, 2024
First time at the Waipahu Westgate Plaza
Didn't realize parking was going to be difficult. It was around dinner time on a Monday. No open stalls, and cars waiting on the side for an available stall.
My favorite spot for Filipino food is in Kapolei and didn't feel like driving that far. Having trouble finding somewhere I like close to home, trying here for the first time since the yelp photos and reviews seemed worth trying.
Ordered take-out and here is my take on the following dishes:
Pork Adobo Fried Rice-
It was tasty, the pork pieces were all tiny but throughout. I'd order this again to go with another dish.
Pork Adobo-
A bit too oily for me, but the oil is probably what helped the pork from drying out. It was just okay, pieces were huge, some a little tough.
Pork Guisantes-
I prefer my pork guisantes with a vinegary taste. Could have used more red bell peppers or pimentos, but I liked it. Also, generous with the pork. and it was tender. I'd return and have this dish again.
They were friendly. Waited about 20 minutes.
I'll dine in next time.Helpful 12Thanks 8Love this 8Oh no 0 - 128893212Apr 18, 20242 check-ins
The pork adobo fried rice with a soft scrambled egg on top was delicious. The mini portion was perfect for me and less than $7. Came in on a Wednesday morning and service was fast and the waitress was very sweet.

Thelma's Restaurant located in the heart of Waipahu. Known for their famous "Thelma's Special" (Lechon Pork with Shoyu, Tomato's, and Onions. The staff is very quick and attentive. Ample parking out front. Small dining room, take out and catering available.

Went back a couple of weeks ago and everything was great!
Went back again Thursday night to grab dinner on the way to my grandsons basketball game.
We always get Pork Adobo Fried Rice. Portions are big enough for dinner then breakfast the next morning.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 16, 2023
Went to the Leeward side & the place decided for lunch was Thelma's.In a strip mall ,
located in the same location I remember when visiting from Utah almost 10 years ago. Everything looked the same & even the inside of the restaurant. A locals eatery Thelma's is known for their tasty comfort filipino cuisine. The waitress
was friendly & took our order & served us cold water& brought utensils to our table. A few families
& customers were dining in & the atmosphere
was pleasant. The 3 dishes with white rice, came out
in good time, as we were hungry! The pictures
are worth a thousand words & all the entrees were
delicious & lunch was another good stop in choosing Thelma's for Filipino food!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 26193452Sep 24, 2023Updated review
Used to order takeout but this is my first time dining in. They weren't busy. Once you enter, they don't seat you and ask you to sit wherever you want. There's no ac inside which makes it quite hot. They do have fans but it's not strong enough to cool you.
Service is pretty slow. We had to wait a while to even get the menu that we walked up and asked for one. Service for our food to arrive was also slow. No one checked up on us after dropping off food despite like 6 workers standing around.
What made it all better was just the food itself. They have good tasting Filipino food! I would come back but i'll just stick to takeout.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 21, 2021Previous reviewEvery time i go to the bank down the road next to the shopping center near Thelmas, i always ask myself if i want to get adobo fried rice or lechon kawali for lunch. Then it ends up not being a debate anymore and i end up buying and eating it. It's like a routine for me to get Thelmas takeout now.
I highly recommend getting the adobo fried rice or lechon kawali, it's the best on the menu! I like how the egg is thin, it goes well with the meat and rice. This time there was a bit more fatty adobo in my meal, i didn't eat that part because i'm just not a big fan of it. The lechon kawali is the best! It's so flavorful as you can see from my photo, i like how they put a generous amount of tomatoes and onions with the meat because i love eating it
