About the Business
Established in 1979. In 1937, Rau's opened as a home-style restaurant in Commack, Long Island to feed hungry travelers headed east to popular vacation spots. In 1979, the same historic building opened its doors as The Spare Rib, where three generations of the Iacono family continue the tradition of serving delicious, mouth-watering food at great prices. Our famous ribs, sizzling steaks and golden onion loaf keeps customers coming back for more. Why does it taste so good? We start with the finest ingredients and age our beef so that every cut meets our high standards. We make our own dressings and marinates fresh every day. And of course, The Spare Rib Barbeque Sauce is famous for making everything we serve burst with flavor. At The Spare Rib, we're great food and we're proud of our tradition! We only serve you and your family the best! "We Ain't Just Ribs"

Now the first thing I thought was ribs in New York City. Never doubt or undestimate any establishment in any locale until you go and try it.
This place truly impressed me with the presentation. And the food was on point to be in Long Island New York and have some of the best ribs. I've ever had East of the Mississippi North of the South. Displays what the 44 year's history of doing it right? Each and every time it's amazing.
I encourage you to go ahead and give them a try. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 610475Dec 5, 2023
I got exactly what I expected out of my meal at The Spare Rib. Yummy comfort food! This place is family friendly and the restaurant is cute and comfortable. The menu is filled with tons of meat filled options. And the location is great.
They have amazing chicken tenders!
The reason I gave this place 3 stars was because someone on their staff was basically stalking our table and we could barely put a fork down without their employee trying to clean us up. It was overwhelming to have the staff be obnoxiously overly attentive to clearing things off of our table and it made us feel rushed an uncomfortable.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Russ D.Deer Park, NY55426Oct 9, 2023
The quality of food has fallen greatly since my first encounter [1980] w/ T.S.R.
I'll admit my half rack ribs was fine -- but everything else - her/mine salad dressings [cheap & bland] - my baked potato [flavorless] - my girlfriend chicken entree [dry]
The Mgr refused to adjust bill - and was even threatening
The waitress get over 18% tip ------------ she was the only sparkle in T.S.R.
Attached is a pic of everything the dog got - waste not...Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Diane C.Brookhaven, NY027Mar 31, 2024
Our go to for a lot of Fridays. Drinks are nice a fruity. Sold food. Not fancy but solid. A bit noisy. Decor is getting a bit worn I'll admit but service is good.

The food was very good. We got the ribs and the onion rings, to speak to some of our favorites. They were very good with great service overall. The ambiance was classic, with the booths and design being very outdated but in a good way! It was nostalgic of the restaurant I grew up going to with my family.

The fried chicken here would go in my hall of fame of fried chicken dishes. It was absolutely perfect. Place is old school, service is great and it's no frills. The score is based of the fried chicken alone

Always great service. Friendly & attentive staff. Both Ashley (server) & Rachel (bartender/server) are the best.
Had what they call on the menu broasted chicken which I've had before & as always delicious. It also comes with salad & a bread basket with Italian bread & home made yummy corn bread. It's a lot of food so you can definitely share it.
Enjoy!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

If you are looking to spend your money on Pinot noir that clearly went bad and tastes like vinegar and be served lobster with no butter, this is your place!! The server offered many responses from the manager Tracey. Can't open another bottle until this one is finished..... really??? Bad bottle and we are serving it? Asked for owner who unfortunately wasn't there and second in charge and never offered to speak with him. Left just before 7:00 pm and the place had so many tables available. The wait used to be so long....they made it clear there is really no need to wait. Go elsewhere!!

First time back here in a long time. Dined in and everything was top notch from salads ribs crab cakes apple pie to their cocktails. Sat at the bar watched the Bills kick the Jets! Met nice people which allowed for a great time and I now will be back often!
