Serving fresh and hearty dishes and refreshing bar favorites, we blow your typical tacos, burgers, and craft beer out of the water with food that's as vibrant as our sun-filled city. Came in for lunch after surfing. Order at the counter, super convenient. After we ordered, a huge line formed but moved quick. Food took a little while but it was worth it!
Here's what we had:
Big Als bacon burger- We'll seasoned and tasty! I only wish I ordered 2. 4 of 5 stars!
Fish Tacos- I was pleasantly surprised. The fish is grilled, light and fresh tasting but what sets it off is the Shwack Sauce. 4 of 5 stars!
Shwack spuds- Stale, tasted like they'd been sitting. 2 of 5 stars.
Service- friendly folks! 5 of 5 stars!

Place w a cool vibe.
I ordered island chicken sand
My husband ordered a shwack burger and fries.
I ordered a shaka-rita and he ordered a beer.
My island chicken sandwich had a bread that was almost pure white. Lightly baked- tasted ok would have liked the bread toasted more - almost ciabata like.
Snow ciabatta is the word I'd have for it
The ingredients for my island chicken had pineapple nicely grilled chicken and Asian slaw.
The chicken was nicely done- at parts a little dry. But overall I think it's good.
The Asian slaw was dripping w sauce. By the time I ate half, the other half was soaked in juices and sauce. I didn't really enjoy that.
The Shaka Rita was interesting to say the least. It was very saltish. I had requested no salt rim. It seems like they mistook the order and instead did a request and added salt to drink as well.
For me, the water tasted better.
The ambience was cool
I just didn't like the food n drinks.
I probably wouldn't be back.
My husband thought the burger was just ok
Google review had said this place was a rating of 4.5
Am unsure how they got that.

We aim for an excellent experience, but regretfully, we fell short this time. Your criticisms about the bread, sauce, and drink have been registered. Virgil E.San Clemente, CA15831210Feb 19, 2024We totally enjoy the San Clemente grill. Lunch during the week is very relaxing. Go at dinner time and super busy with minimal parking. At least it was . At lunchtime the server is always polite and patient. Especially with a teenager trying to decide. We like the menu items but the burger is always good and consistent. Unfortunately we drove by recently and it looked like they're closed?

If the restaurant can read this... PLEASE RELAX ON THE SAULT! I just ordered fish tacos and the fish was so salty, I spent the rest of the evening smooching my lips. Not good! I was only able to eat one taco. There was no way I was going to eat more. I'll need to rinse them when I get home and re-season them. Again, not good! Whoever is marinating your food, please have a chat with them. I question how you got a 4 star rating.

Parking is street parking or free parking in the parking garage
around the corner. There are limited spaces to dine in, especially if you come during lunchtime. I ordered Fish Shaka Tacos and they were delicious! It comes in 3 large tacos with a side of small cabbage. The flavor was excellent and the fish were well seasoned! Once ordered, they call out your name and bring the food to you.

Fish tacos- had plenty of fish and the fish itself was very soft, easy to eat
Pulled pork tacos- a little dry but the taco was also well filled
However, neither taco was spicy despite spicy pico de gallo sauce

They have ceviche which is a little out of place for a burger grill but god damn it was delicious. Ordering is a little different, feels like fast food but you get to sit like a restaurant. They also have heaters for the outdoor tables, so nice! Service was awesome. Really nice people. The only downside was that I heard the cooks talking smack about our order. Other than that though I definitely recommend!

So we roll up at 11:05 am on a Sunday and are excited because there is no line and it's pretty empty. We start to order only to be told we stopped serving breakfast at 11 am. The restaurant is slow and you are going to hold the line at 11 am and lose customers?
Maison (across the street) who is still serving breakfast is packed as is every other breakfast spot in Dana Point at 11 am on Sunday!
Note to management- maybe you should extend your breakfast hours on Sunday to be competitive with surrounding establishments. I get it during the week but Sunday??
