I miss the vibe from here. It closed during Covid but the reason I am posting a review is to help me help you!
I want to ask if there is anything that can be done to help re-open the place.
This place was gold. The coffee - exceptionally good, with covered outdoor seating! Indoors, you'd find quirky joke of the day, a Richardson weekly local and walls with paintings you could buy!
Hope you guys come back soon!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2020
Coffee is mediocre, but it's a nice cafe to get some work done.
Coffee: I'm not at all saying I'm some coffee connoisseur, but I sure know basic coffee when I taste it. My favorite Pearl Cup drink is their mocha frozen blend and cappuccino, but I've tried their latte, drip coffee, macchiato, and chai frozen blend as well. The beans aren't burnt or anything, but I personally just don't think it's anything too special.
Panini: They used to have this chicken panini shmaackkked. Since they took that off the menu, I've been getting the "Favorite Panini" - simple sandwich done right and hits the spot.
Atmosphere: I used to come here a lot for their nice patio - the location is not right by a major street or highway so it's nice and quiet.
Service: Yes. Yes. Yesssss. I love the workers here!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1724376243Jan 14, 2018
Great neighborhood coffee shop close to Renner & Custer in Richardson.
Espresso drinks are hand-crafted, coffee is strong but smooth, and employees are friendly and helpful.
No drive-thru, but that thankfully minimizes the coffee shop chaos that happens elsewhere.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 15, 2019
Pearl Cup coffee is probably the go-to coffee spot for UTD students since it's so close. But it's also located conveniently within a small shopping/eats plaza near a neighborhood, which attracts lots of families and individuals working remotely.
I used to frequent Pearl Cup more so as a student. My visits have become more infrequent since I've come to realize their coffee is very mediocre. Their coffee is very inconsistent, and it heavily depends on who is working the shift. Also, yes, they do microwave their food too - they have an open coffee bar/kitchen and they don't really make an attempt to hide their microwave.
It's a great place to study or for meet-ups, but even their space has become limited, especially on weekends. You'll find yourself fighting against crowds of people even on weekday afternoons for empty seats. Their wifi has become slow as well, though I'm sure it's due to the crowds. I'm very happy for the business - I saw that they have started to open up more locations throughout Dallas. However, if the coffee at their other locations is anything like the coffee they serve at this Richardson location, I will probably pass.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2019
I love a good coffee shop that I can study in but this one doesn't make the cut ):
Drinks are 8/10 on a good day but they're quite inconsistent with taste and the sandwiches are oily
Space is limited so I never come here during the afternoons and weekends, it feels very stuffy and overcrowded ):
But it's a pretty nice place for catch ups with friends on days with nicer weather bc they have an open patio with seatsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 19, 2018
I love this place!!! It is so comfy and cozy. I love the decor and all of the comfortable seating. I had the best cappuccino I believe I've ever had. It was so creamy even though it was made with almond milk, which is unusual. My son agreed that it was his new favorite, as well! It's a must try.

I have been here a few times now! I really like the space! The space is also very convenient from where I work. Parking is a little crazy just because of the complex, but I usually miss it because I come so early! They are also open early Saturdays, which is the perfect start to my morning. The first time I went I had the pearl latte! It was tasty! The next time I had a turkey panini that one of my guests was eating, so I decided to go and try it for myself!! And it was delicious!! I recommend it!
What I have been drinking lately is the Citrus Spice Herbal Tea!! And I add a little honey for preference, since this cold weather has me congested this really helps me get my mornings started! By far my favorite, but can't wait to try more of their menu!
You can get points/rewards as well for some purchases.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 15, 2016
I'm truly on a role in Dallas... I have found one great place after another! Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I found today's gem -- Pearl Cup!
I'm the guy who usually orders the same espresso drink everywhere I go. I know what I like and it's great for comparing different places.
My usual go-to espresso drink is a black and white... although not everywhere offers white mocha, so I am perfectly happy with a mocha. Pearl Cup is one of those places that does not offer the white variety chocolate-ly happiness. #WhiteMochasMatter #AllMochasMatter
However, what Pearl Cup offers is the Pearl Latte. And they were so kind enough to make it a Pearl Mocha for me and...
Whoa! Creamy delicious mocha goodness in my mouth!
Couple that with a beautiful covered outdoor patio, complete with string lights and electrical outlets, and you have yourself a true FIVE-STAR coffeeshop, Dallas!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 1293261391Oct 7, 2016
Coffee shop and college students. They make good friends. The Pearl Cup Is a coffee shop in the quiet section of Custer Road away from the "hustle and bustle" side of Plano. It's a favorite place for UTD students to hang out because of its proximity to the university.
I read some of the reviews. Sounds like their "pearl" milk is from a secret recipe. So I decided to try it with a hot latte. I have to say it was rich, smooth and creamy, not too sweet, with a mild-to-strong espresso flavor. As far as the milk goes, I don't pretend I'm an expert. I can't tell the difference between this milk and the regular milk. But what I can say is with this milk everything came out perfectly.
The inside is not too big. Actually, it's quite tight compared to other coffee places of similar nature. There is actually no lobby area when you enter like you would expect. There are three or four small community bench tables on the right and a few small ones on the left side. But I do like their shinny, polished solid wood tables. If you can't find a spot inside, you can sit and relax in the outside covered patio, which is really nice and comfortable with a much better open view.
Beware if you come late in the day. It was a Wednesday I was there and they closed at 6:00 even before the Sun came down!
$ saving tip: Pull out your UTD ID if you have one. They cut your bill by 20% for being supportive of the prestigious local institution of higher learning. But you have to check if it's the first time only or every time :)Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tina C.Dallas, TX577169509May 6, 2018
I've been meaning to check this place out for years and was finally in the area on a Saturday morning/ afternoon to do so. I got a cold brew. Don't forget to bring your ID if you're a student for a discount (not just for UTD students)!
The cold brew was comparable to cold brews at other coffee shops so I really just wanted to comment on the ambiance of the place. It's cute, cozy, and perfect for studying/ working. The ambiance is unique in the sense that they have benches and wooden tables rather than tables and chairs. I really liked the high ceilings and local artwork on the walls. I didn't notice at first but they also have a seating area on the left side of the shop (near the restrooms) in addition to the seats on the right side (near the cash register) and an outdoor covered seating area as well. Given that it's like 5 mins from UTD, the place is packed with students and I ended up sharing a table with a couple.
Would definitely come back to study/ work and try some of their other drinks. Summary: drink 5/5, ambiance 4/5, service 3/5.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
