Is it more business casual dress or just casual like polo and cargo shorts?
A:
Casual... no dress requirements.. my husband was just wearing shorts and T-shirt and slippers. I was wearing summer dress and flat sandals.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch.
It was absolutely delicious and I'm mad we never went here prior today!
We started with some Riesling. It was very good!
For an appetizer we shared calamari. It was so delicious and plentiful! It could have been an entree with how generous the portion was. We liked that it was lightly fried. We also really liked the marinara sauce it was accompanied with.
For my entree I chose Ahi Tuna BLT. It was delicious! The ahi tuna had a black pepper taste. Bacon was cooked to perfection. I chose oar chips as my side that were great as well.
My boyfriend had the lobster rigatoni. It was so yummy!! I am absolutely ordering it the next time we go. Generous portions of lobster. The sauce was so creamy too.
Our sever was Jessica and she was a real rockstar! She didn't rush us and was a great waitress overall. When she first greeted us at the beginning of our meal, she asked us if the music was too loud. Furthermore, when she heard it was our anniversary, she gave us complimentary cheesecake to celebrate.
We loved everything about our meal! We cannot wait to return!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

Used to be 5 star forever
Now Strickly depends on your waiter.
Fresh fish, chops, meats.
We had Nick who began w our party unhappy and was mad that he had our large table. There was an error in our plates and he was so disgusted with kitchen but he took.order lol...
We waited patiently while our friends food was remedied.
Bartender was phenomenal
Drinks were expertly shaken and stirred.
Apps at bar were fresh, hot and delicious
Our experience changed once seated by window in larger room.
Looked pretty with outside all set up.
I understand they have live music sometimes
This is a perfect spot post holiday shopping.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi, we are sorry to hear that you didn't have a five-star visit with us, especially as a long-time customer of ours. Could you send us a message and let us know when this was and who your waiter was so we can look into this? Thank you!
Feb 6, 2023Previous reviewtwo decades of coming here and one time i order hamburger medium and it was literally not cooled so raw. I returned it and the waiter was snarky. I was a but sad about this because that has never been the vibe here. We had sat by the back windows, We had a male waiter who seemed to be frenetic with all is tables. we sat and werent tended to for 25 min. There bus person gave is water and rolls. I felt like he was too busy to have the attention to detail they are known for Next time if go back to the bar area bc teh bartenders are super attentive. Parking is ample. The igloos are perfect if its not too cold outside. No Valet in the winter!
Mar 25, 2018Previous reviewBest coconut shrimp appetizer, excellent lentil soup, superb fish and steak a must try in the quaint cozy little patchogue secret.....staff is fantastic !The renovations opened up the restaurant and modernized the house and is now great....there is a beautiful deck with a fireplace, an outside smoking deck, and direct access to the boat. Our waitress has been there for years and is exceptional... delightful service, good food, exemplary taste and selection. Now's the time to go. Excellent family gathering spot with live music

As I continue to write up reviews from months past, I honestly almost skipped over The Oar. Now that's totally not because I didn't enjoy my meal, but I didn't take a ton of photos (and that's how I usually remember to pen my belated reviews). Luckily, I had a couple of pics that I'll attach to this four star explanation.
You see, this dining experience was back in late July as my wife and I (along with another couple) went here to have a little waterfront meal. I had never been to The Oar, but the other duo had eaten there and their vouching of the place helped in wanting us to go. I mean the view from the patio overlooking boats and waterways was a great way to start things. Our waitress was pretty friendly as well and we began with a round of drinks. You can't go wrong with a crisp Kona beer on a hot summer day, though my wife's mixed drink was nothing special.
Luckily, moving on from things that weren't special, we can get into a pretty memorable morsel of food in the lobster rigatoni. This was what I chose to order (after another vouch from the other couple on its superb quality) and it didn't disappoint. The dish had nice chunks of lobster meat accompanied by cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, garlic, and a creamy/oily/truffly sauce. Though not the cheapest endeavor, I was impressed with the tenderness of the lobster and the flavors that balanced out quite nicely. It was definitely something I would consider ordering again. My wife's grilled shrimp and avocado salad was also pretty enjoyable and worked well for that warm summer evening.
Overall, The Oar had some great views and friendly service with seasonally tasty main courses (albeit not the cheapest, but that's to be expected). Perhaps their drinks aren't lights out in quality, but if I'm looking for a slightly pricier outdoor summer meal, I could definitely make a case to come to The Oar again at least to eat. And now I'm hungry for some summer vibes...ugh.Helpful 10Thanks 1Love this 8Oh no 0Business owner information

My husband and I would just at the Oar on Thursday for a late lunch at the bar and the bartender was fabulous. The food was fabulous and it is probably the best salmon I've ever eaten I also had baked clams that were the best I've ever eaten. I'm not overrating, it really was that good!

Very busy for a Tuesday dinner. There was a 20 min wait for 2 but we were seated quickly. If you have a preference on indoors or outdoors it maybe longer.
I got the seafood fra diavolo. It was AMAZING. The sauce was not spicy, it was so flavorful. It came with clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops on linguine. I had some leftover as it was a huge dish.
My partner got the salmon on top of soba noodles. The salmon melts in your mouth. Never had salmon that soft.
I would recommend both dishes. Would come back to try more. The menu is not large but they do have a specials menu.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

The food was very good. The mussels are sizzling and we're delicious. So unique to have them sizzling. They had live music and it was a fun atmosphere. The staff is very attentive. My favorite part was walking outside and seeing the American flag in the parking lot. I will always go back to places that are proud of our country and even more so that they are ok with showing it. It's amazing how many people are afraid to be patriotic. This is definitely a place to spend many nights at during the summer. The vibe is spot on starting with the hostesses. They are already smiling and sweet and it ends with the valet guys. Start to finish I highly recommend the Oar. We travel from Queens so if that's not proof I don't know what is. It's worth the trip.

Had a delicious lunch yesterday overlooking the boats in the harbor. Lunch was yummy. We shared baked clams which were chopped & full of clams-so good. We then shared lobster wontons which were served with a sesame sauce, hoisin sauce & soy..perfect crunch for lunch!! Our main course was a delicious swordfish sandwich, panko crusted soft shell crab sandwich which I requested no bun so I could enjoy the over the top Oar fries. These were chips made from a baked potato so differently delish. My husband had the lobster rigatoni which he said was good tho the cream sauce was a little thin. All in all make the trip enjoy the view & excellent service!!

We enjoyed this place very much! The service was amazing and the food had lots of flavor. The steak was delicious and the fish tacos as well. Very filling. We also got the coconut shrimp and lobster wonton as a appetizer. Yes it was a bit pricey. Shrimp was okay but we loved the wonton.
They also offer free bread which was warm and soft.
We also sat outside in the igloos and the experience was fantastic! We will definitely visit again! the decor inside was beautifulHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Came here yesterday by water with family to have a nice lunch. We split some oysters and wings for an appetizer which were pretty good. For my entree, I had a brisket sandwich which I believe was a special for the week. It was fresh and flavorful. The side of oar chips were also quite tasty. Nice ambiance and attentive, friendly staff. Would visit again if I am in the area.
