We bring our small dog to the Madison for their play and groom and every now and then when we go on day trips. He seems to like it, and he's always tired when he comes home. It's a nice and safe place to bring your pup, and the staff is friendly. It seems like they love dogs.
I gave it 4 stars because every time we bring him here (he's got long fur), I always have to bathe him because he's got a strong odor. It doesn't bother me too much, but it's something to think about. Also their groomer is solid and listens to everything I want done to him and does do it. But there have been spots that are left longer than others that I've cut when we've gotten home. Also, they make the doggies potty inside instead of outside, and my dog is always adamant about going outside so he always has to go really bad when we pick him up.
It's certainly a good place to go, but there are a few drawbacks. I would still recommend this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jamie K.Waldwick, NJ1172Oct 14, 2023
Absolutely outstanding service. Sean goes above and beyond alongside his staff to make sure our dog is cared for. Unmatched service and hospitality. Highly recommend!!

HORRIBLE, DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG HERE! With my own two eyes I saw a woman aggressively grab a mid-size dog with her hand by the fur on his neck, drag him, and drop him as he was crying. I complained to the management that was there, and they seemed un-phased. After I waited to see if they were going to 1.) attend to the dog after being assaulted, or 2.) confront the worker, they did neither.
Protect your pet. This is my first Yelp review ever, but had to share this experience so that pet owners do not send their pet here to be abused.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angelo C.Wallingford, CT466Jun 21, 2022
I used them a few times, and when I picked my dog up, he was usually just given a bath. I guess I got there early yesterday to pick him up. I got him in the car, and in the time it took to walk around to the driver's door, my car stunk. My dog had a very strong urine smell to him, which makes me wonder how well they took care of him.

My skittish dog has not been to the Madison in a few years, just because his human siblings have been taking up more of our time. He's not socialized the same way he was when it was only him. He carefully entered today with suspicion. He left 5 hours later with a legitimate SMILE on his face and a wagging tail. He slept the whole way home.. and he normally nervously stands for hour long car rides!!

Always a great experience from beginning to end. Bailey loves her time at the Madison and I wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of her while I'm away. Thank you all for providing a safe, fun environment for my little girl.

This review is way overdue: if your dog gets hurt please note that you will get no communication, no apologies, all excuses!!!
I boarded my blue French Bulldog a few times at Waldwick location and every time she came home extremely dirty and smelly (Waldwick location smells horrible!!!).
Decided to try HoHoKus location (same owner): first time, no problem. However, second time we boarded her I was in the hospital having a baby. We didn't get any calls from Madison but checked in and she was "all good". When my husband picked up our dog, he noticed she was limping pretty bad. He asked a very young guy who works there what happened and he said "I guess she got hurt somehow, I dunno" then proceeded to ring him up for all charges. No apologies, explanations or compensations!!!
I called the location about a week after (home with my first newborn) and asked the owner to call me back as no one knew what had happened. Owner called back the following week and said that the situation "was handled internally". I asked if a vet looked at her paw or what they did "internally" as it was not communicated... he said that they just noticed it and she seemed fine. Again, no apologies or compensation or explanation... only excuses. The explanation I got was this: "if you have an indoor dog with other dogs in places like this, something will happen. It's like if you go to the beach and walk around barefoot on sand with shells, your feet are not use to it". - Ummm WHAT?! It's a Blue French Bulldog - the dog costs $7K. What the hell are you talking about?!
In the end, I took her to the vet and it was a cut. We got something to put on the cut and she was limping for the next week (the bill was $170). And of course, owner did not offer any compensation and apologized only after I called him out on it.
Again, if you value your dogs health, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charlotte H.Bergen County, NJ0101Mar 6, 2021

Our dog can be a big pain (a really big pain!!!) and the people that work at The Madison really go above and beyond. We never have to worry whether we are dropping her for 5 hours or a week she is always taken care of.
