This place kinda makes my brain hurt...
It's a huge pub, right on the main street in Prestonpans - not far from my new gaff, so essentially my new local. It's a community pub too, so the vast majority of its profits are put back and invested in the Arts in the town too, which I think is brilliant.
They serve predominately local, craft beers - something that'll warm the heart of the hipster in all of us. They're pretty good too, and the food's of a decent standard as well.
They're not trying to hard to dazzle you with how cool and "on trend" they are - it's just a simple, local boozer with some local beers on tap.
Yet, I just can't feel myself warming to the place. There's something about it which feels a bit "working mans pub" - which is no bad thing, having frequented many back home. It just makes me feel overall the space is under-utilised. It's a gorgeous building, but has neglible external windows, so you feel you're in a portacabin. It's got good local beers, but only a very small number - everything else is generic rubbish. The foods decent, but nothing out of the ordinary either.
I like the simplicity of the place - I just feel it isn't making the most of its potential. Which is a big shame - it could be a 5 star place, but I only want to give it a 3... But given their use of their profits, I'm meeting halfway and going with 4Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Qype User (paga_m…)Edinburgh, United Kingdom523040Mar 14, 2010
A must see and must visit pub serving local brewed beers. The Goth is a part and parcel of the cultural life of Prestonpans, it uses the premises of old beautifully decorated house and incorporates a couple of bars and salons. The bar staff are amazing, the food they serve is cheap and delicious. There are many cultural events that take place inside: from theatre performances to live music gigs. The pub's lively atmosphere is contagious and before you manage to take a sit in the pub you will find yourself in the company of friendly and merry locals. The house is part of the historical heritage of Prestonpans with its artistic murials of witches' trials.
