My review will hopefully bring a different perspective than what has been left so far.
We attended a wedding reception here recently. I had no idea this place existed until we had an invitation. The sad part? We live in Stoughton!
I'm glad I know about it now, even though our wedding is in the past, but I can throw it out to people I know that are planning their own.
This venue is a one-stop-shop. You can have your ceremony in one barn, and transfer to the larger barn for the reception.
It is quite spacious inside, as the wedding we attended was quite large, closer to 300. And the head table reminded me of a renaissance style set-up where it fit 24 people and was two tables wide all the way down. So that took up quite a bit of space too.
Their bartenders were very friendly, and I thought their bar set up was efficient. 3 bartenders may have been all they could throw back there without tripping on each other, but that is something they maybe could've had one more of.
The dinner was catered in, but it seemed like the photo booth and the ice cream "truck" they had at the wedding was something they booked from the Fields Reserve directly, which is quite efficient.
I will say, that from my event planning background, the tear down time was quite lengthy. It was almost 40 minutes between the start of tearing down tables for the dance floor, until the first dance.
So from a guest point-of-view, that would be something to work on.
And just a housekeeping thing, especially when guests will be leaving in darkness, more lighting on the initial decent of the driveway as you leave. It is also a little overgrown, and because it's a tighter driveway, if another car is coming, it could be a close call. So that's something to think about too.
Great newer venue option for our area though!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Rudy V.Madison, WI3283Oct 5, 2019
Bad weather access is quite difficult. There's no protection from rain and a steep hill leading to the venue.
Most irritating is the failure to plan for sound and lighting. Four unshielded bulbs at front of room produce hot spots that make photography unacceptably challenging and even viewing the ceremony difficult.
Hard surfaces to some extent obviate a PA system. But for those in the rear of the hall, amplification would be desirable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Allison H.San Francisco, CA01Apr 25, 2021
Don't book with them, unless you want to waste thousands of dollars. As if planning a wedding isn't stressful enough they make everything hard and are dishonest people. When you are in a business of customer service you need to keep your words and be honest and trustworthy. The Fields Reserve doesn't care about their customers. They are money hungry dishonest people. I definitely don't recommend booking with them. You're company is in the business of love and you've made it clear you have no love or respect in your company what so ever.

Rustic, Cozy, Inviting venue. Everything was perfect, watching two beautiful young ladies exchange vows. Then came time to dance and have a few cocktails.
Word to the wise- If you pretend that you are as miserable as the bartenders, they will serve you after 2 or 3 beers. If you decide like you want to act like you are having fun, be prepared to be cut off, at that time. DO NOT, BY ANY MEANS, ask the blonde with the horse mane pony tail for a drink. She's like the Ukrainian Police. Firm. Firm and Unfair. At least she only had to ride her ponytail, 3 clicks to the south, and was back home at her trailer.
Unfortunately, we were 2.5 hrs away. Thanks Ukrainian Policewoman, for making me spend $60 in Uber fares to drink 3 Coors Lights.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ruth B.Helenville, WI01Apr 23, 2021
Be wary. The Fields lied to my fiancé and I. Don't believe their promises. We were excited to get married at the Fields. We both have large families and chose the venue because of the ability to have up to 300 guests attend. COVID-19 capacity restrictions were imposed in Dane County after we booked our wedding. We certainly understand the restrictions and how hard this is on venues, but the Fields promised us, multiple times, that we would have the right to cancel and receive a full refund if capacity restrictions remained in place 30 days prior to our wedding date (and per the owners we had to wait until 30 days before our date to cancel). Because of these promises and the 30-day timeline, we did not cancel or postpone our wedding before the 30-day date. Then, 11 days before this 30-day deadline, the Fields went back on its repeated promises and said they would no longer refund our several thousand-dollar deposit because Dane County had relaxed but not removed their capacity restrictions. We were forced into canceling at the last minute, and the Fields has refused to refund our deposit, despite their earlier promises. We were lied to.

The owners were very friendly until after the wedding and they had their payment. Suddenly picking up left over wedding cake and food totaling $2000 was not a priority, especially as the owners claimed the cleaning crew threw the food away. Greatly disappointed and do not recommend. Grounds were also unkempt and not safe for children and older people.

Hi Ann,
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for any confusion related to your leftover food. We try to be as transparent as possible about the rules related to food left behind at our venue. We cover this topic on our rental agreement and we also have a posted sign on the fridge as an additional precaution to remind everyone that all food left behind after the event will be thrown out. Again, we apologize for any confusion and we will review our policies on leftover food to see if we can find a better way of reminding guests about this rule.
Kind regards,
The Fields Reserve
