So here's the dealio - when I first moved to RI, I sampled cupcakes far and wide. At the time I found The Cupcakerie kinda of 'meh'...beautiful and well packaged, but expensive. When I saw the sign "now open for breakfast" last week, I decided to give them another try. And, let me tell you, this place has quickly become the JOY of driving up Broad St. through Cranston sprawl to get to 95.
As early as I will ever be up (7:00 AM), I can make a stop at this precious, clean, earth-conscious cupcakerie, which has become so much more! Yogurt, scones, muffins, and of course cupcakes (my personal favorite being the carrot cake number). Service is done with a smile and they also serve New Harvest coffee, hot or iced, which has been good 3/4 times. Also available for purchase by the pound.
While not exactly located in 'the village" (pawtuxet village), close enough to be considered my favorite coffee-and-a-treat spot in my hood! Add eggs and butter croissants and you've got a 5*rating.
Dog friendly RI tip: Dog treats are made here, but your pooch must remain outside. They've provided a fresh water dish for him :)Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Vanessa T.Atlanta, GA475372299Dec 31, 2009First to Review
Cupcakes for you; cookies for your dog. That's the way it works 'round here. And I don't have a problem with it. I stopped in this cute little cupcake shop only a week after their opening and a couple days after 20" of snow landed.
I selected a cupcake to eat on the premises along with some hot chocolate and a second cupcake to take home for nom nom later. I tried the Cinco de Mayo cupcake, which is the spiced Mexican chocolate cupcake. The ribbons of frosting were lovely to look at, but exceedingly sugary for my taste buds. I'm not a frosting-fetishist like most cupcake connoisseurs, though, so take that for what it's worth.
The cupcake itself - which is all I care about -- was dense and rich. I very much enjoyed sitting along the window bank and slowly eating it. The spice/heat factor was perfect albeit a little dry. The Shake Your Coconuts cupcake I had later was quite tasty achieving a distinct layered texture despite its simple ingredients.
In the land of gourmet cupcakes, theirs are totally reasonable at $2.50. Another awesome aspect is the mini sizes offered [for $1 each]. They were completely out of them when I was there, but they're a wonderful way to sample their varieties without turning into a candidate for The Biggest Loser.
I like committing to itsy bitsy bites.
The shop itself is cute, offering minimal but sun-drenched seating along the windows. They also make and sell doggie treats and a few canine accessories. Service was warm and wonderful. I especially like the real plates / real cups touch. The Cupcakerie is a welcome addition to the dismal dessert landscape in Rhode Island.
The cupcake trend has definitely overextended itself elsewhere, and I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of over them. But I happily support independent businesses and the local source movement, both of which The Cupcakerie embodies.
I'm sure they'll be baking up new sweet things in the coming year.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - 74174351Feb 12, 2012
I bought cupcakes for a get together so I had a pretty good variety...Opened the box and what do I see? A hair!
Thankfully it was only on one of the cupcakes.
The cupcakes were dry, not worth the $....Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Stephanie, I am so sorry you had a bad experience at The Cupcakerie! I am not sure why the cupcakes were dry, and the hair is unforgivable! Please message me and we can arrange to get you some complimentary cupcakes so you can see just how wonderful our award winning cupcakes truly are. My email is kristin @thecupcakerie.net

I've only had their cupcakes at the farmers market, so I can't say much about the store. I'm actually not a cupcake person usually, but I actually love the cupcakes from Cupcakerie. Everyone I've had has been light, moist and fresh.
Since they're a bit of an indulgence, it's nice to know they use fresh and natural ingredients -- I taste actual lemon in their lemon cupcakes and taste and see the ginger in their ginger pear cupcakes, etc.
I'm a big fan of their lavender one (it's so interesting and special!) and the ginger pear. Even though I usually don't eat all of the frosting, it's also nice because it's not sickeningly thick and sweet.
The staff are super super friendly and are happy to let you try samples. They make great giftsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lucy G.Plainfield, CT6359304Jul 25, 2012
I usually stop by when they are at the farmers market in
Lippett park. I buy the sampler for some nice variety. My favorite is the Cinco d mayo. Who would have thought that I would love a spicy cupcake. The one with the coffee bean on top is another good one. This place hits the sweet spot: )Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hilary H.Washington, DC286312131680Sep 17, 2012
Here's the gist: Henceforth, I will always and forever crave the Cupcakerie's genius and fabulously unique Cinco de Mayo creation. Smooth, buttery frosting with a spicy, cinnamony kick atop a rich, moist and fluffy chocolate cake. Not too sweet, not to heavy, just the right amount of heat to make everything delicioso. Basically, I'm in love.
My curiosity began years ago, when they first popped up at the Hope St Farmer's Market. I sampled their pretty cakes, and then I hit the jackpot: Aquidneck honey and fresh, local blueberries baked into a perfect bite at the Farm Fresh RI Local Food Fest. From that moment, I was smitten. I took Kritin's card (she's the owner) and placed an order with her recently for a dozen and a half cupcakes to go with champagne. Her solution? Cinco de Mayo, Apple Caramel and Vanilla Lavender. All three were bliss, but that chocolate confection did me in, kids. Now I'm a goner.
It's $30 for a donzen, or $3 for one and lemme tell ya, it's totally worth it. The Cupcakerie itself is a charming, bright and incredibly friendly little spot tucked away in a corner just north of Pawtuxet Village, next door to Edgewood Cafe. The displays are pretty, and I couldn't help but be charmed by their pup-friendly cakes. I only wish they made them for cats, too...Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 4391980934Dec 8, 2012
Stopped at their stand at the pawtucket farmers market today. I tried the sampler box of cupcakes, which was a good deal for only $8. Everything was great, especially loved the vanilla and coffee cupcakes. I like that their normal cupcakes are an average size. I hate it when places make everything oversized as if all pastries should be a trillion calories and the size of a softball. The guy working was super helpful and even accomodated a special request, seemed happy to be there. They have a display of each cupcake and what the flavor is. I really like that extra touch. A lesson the other bakery tables could learn, label your products. Makes it easier for everyone. Overall I think they did everything perfectly

ok I read some of the reviews prior to checking them out. I should listened and stayed away. I purchased 1 of every variety they had to get a good tasting lol. I had family over and served all 15. Not one of them had a good comment. The overwhelming complaint was DRY DRY DRY!
I just wish the city girl was open on the weekend:(
I'm thinking they should just be a doggie store since they had my stuff for dogs than humans! My guess they dog stuff gets way better reviews!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 5, 2012
I really enjoyed the cupcakes here! I had a Groupon for a half dozen cupcakes and was able to pick out quite the variety. I then proceeded to eat them all by myself (hey. at least it was over a 5 day period). The girl behind the counter was friendly and patient with my million questions of what flavor is that over and over again. The lemon drop was really good and so was the grasshopper.

Had the vanilla and red velvet mini cupcakes at the merry marketplace event tonight and these are the best cupcakes I have ever had without question. Not too much frosting, not too sweet - perfect. Cant wait to have a whole one!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
