My mother in law and I had an excellent brunch here Sunday. I recommend making reservations, but we were able to make ours just an hour or so in advance with no trouble. We decided to order off both the brunch and lunch menus then share our entrees. From the brunch menu, we ordered the mushroom and herb frittata. It was good, but a little lacking in flavor. Additionally, to be a mushroom frittata, it had very little mushroom on it. The pieces were sliced very thin and probably amounted to one mushroom. We would have liked to see that more prevalent in this dish. The potatoes and fruit that came with that dish were wonderful.
We also ordered the chicken panini that prosciutto, cheese and pesto aioli was divine. It was toasted and melty - definitely something I would order on a return visit.
Good service and great food, plus it's in a beautifully restored home with tons of character and beautiful grounds. It seems to be a great place for bridal/baby showers, reunions, graduation and other parties.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kat A.Ashton, MD8040266Aug 8, 2017
I'm honestly not quite sure what's going on here at what used to be known as the Brookeville Inn. Whatever it is, it's gone downhill. Way downhill. Which is saying a lot for such a historic spot. Don't things only go up from the 1800's?
Anyways, my family has enjoyed this restaurant for many years and it definitely is not the place it used to be. What we used to bring friends and family visiting from out of town is long gone as they have been "renovating" for what seems like forever. I'm pretty sure they're turning it into an event only space.
Granted, they still have holiday buffets and brunches on special occasions like Easter, Mother's Day, and Thanksgiving. Nothing like it used to be and way too expensive for the lack of quality. Honestly, it's not worth $55 for a bagel, turkey (not even ham), subpar sides, and a crusty hardened take on eggs benedict thats been sitting in a buffet pan for an hour (they used to make them to order!)
It really is out in the middle of nowhere which is fine. Just be sure to call them in advance before making the trek out here. Their website sucks and isn't anything like it used to be, plus over the last year they've failed to tell everyone that what they're open for is a buffet offering, NOT a special menu offering like it used to be for holidays.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - DJ M.Feasterville-Trevose, PA4967943720Jul 31, 2008First to Review
I was here for a wedding reception. The restaurant is beautiful as well as the reception area and ballroom we were in. The social hour was held in the reception area and offered a bar and some mighty fine appetizers. ( did you ever notice those few that like to push and shove and eat right over the food and not keep going, like they were not going to get their share? ( ugh! ) You know who you are! Fill your plate with a respectable amount and sit at a table or wonder around socializing and not with your mouth full!
The food and service is impeccable! To start I had a crab cake appetizer ( which could have served as my entree ) it was pure lump crab meat with a delicious bed of a fresh herb roasted red pepper coulie. For my entree, I decided to try a local favorite of sautéed wild Rockfish with a cherrystone clam sauce. Both were remarkable.
This restaurant has only been open for eight years. Truly outstanding. If I lived in the area it would be one of my favorite dining spots.
They have beautiful grounds and patio's and a one acre pond.
Lunch and Dinner Menu's change monthly, using the best local ingredients available.
To Quote: "This 1919 farmhouse opened as a restaurant in 2000, after a massive renovation that added banquet space and a commercial kitchen. The inn suffered from a revolving door of chefs until Paul E. Hajewski arrived about two years later. His New American menu is rooted firmly in traditional Maryland fare and emphasizes local ingredients, but it is never mundane country inn food. The dining rooms of the main house still bear the decorations from when it was used as a show house to raise money for the nearby Olney Theater. Comfortable Chippendale armchairs are pulled up to heavily clothed tables in rooms displaying handsome wooden floors. Fireplaces abound".
It's a jewel worth seeking out.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Natasha M.Laurel, MD51329Dec 29, 2014
I went to the Brookeville Inn a couple days ago with my mom. It was my first visit ever, and I have to say I have mixed feelings about the place.
Location and ambiance. It's located off of 97 and it's sort of tucked away from other places. It's nice to not be in a shopping center when you live in this area. I felt the decor was very charming. It didn't feel like I was just in a restaurant. It felt like I was actually in someone's home which was nice.
Food. As a vegan, there was nothing for me on the menu. It said that there were vegetarian and vegan options available upon request. The reality was that there was only one vegan option, so I went with that. I had some grilled veggies and cous cous with a balsamic reduction. The food was very delicious. The veggies were cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, and eggplant. The cous cous was flavored with maybe tomato or red pepper. Super tasty.
Service. This is where the Inn falls short. Although our server was personable, he had no idea what he was talking about. I mentioned to him that was vegan and he said he was unsure is the tomato and cheese biscuits were vegan. He also wasn't sure if the ravioli dish (which was vegetarian) was vegan. I don't usually mind if someone isn't sure of what vegan means but it's always safest to ask the customer. The other part of this experience that was rather lackluster was the fact that I had to light our candle at the table. The server didn't even notice. I also ordered a glass of wine that definitely was no polished and because of this appeared dirty. Wine glasses should ALWAYS be polished before being sent out! Especially the way this one looked.
Price. It was a little pricey for what it was. I don't think a plate of veggies is worth almost $30. They were tasty but those veggies don't even cost half of that.
I'm on the fence as to whether or not I would return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Annie T.Rockville, MD012Jan 30, 2018
Not sure what has happened to this place. I heard through the grapevine that new owners took over and one thing is for sure, you can DEFINITELY TELL! This place use to be one of my favorites. Use to go here for date night with my boyfriend. The nook was my favorite, so intimate and romantic. The food use to be so unique and delicious. I loved the duck dip and the catfish! Now you would think everything is pre-made and heated up and nothing different than your ordinary chain yet it's still more expensive then a chain. I've had a few friends go here for parties in the past few months and they have said nothing but negative things about their experience here. It's amazing how much of a downhill spiral this place has gone in the last year or so. Most likely will not be returning.

I'm a fan, but I hope that the explanation for the service being somewhat cursory was that we there for supper at 5:00 and only had appetizers and petite plats. I'm not excusing our waitress; I'm just trying to come up with an explanation for what detracted from what was an otherwise 4.5-star experience.
We had arrived early to discuss their facilities wedding receptions. Sounded very good, by the way. Their fees are all-inclusive, so you don't get nickel and dimed all over the place. The grounds are peaceful, without being off-puttingly quaint or formal (if you find quaint or formal off-putting, as I, to some extent, do). Very nice, and the main building is also sweet, and I mean that in the old-fashioned, slightly sugary way. The upstairs are part of the reception facilities; there is a good-sized ballroom in the back of the first floor. The restaurant itself is broken up into a number of small, pretty rooms, keeping the experience quiet, intimate, and never far from a window.
Great wine list, and there is a full bar, but as I was dealing with a dental procedure (don't ask), I stuck with a nice Verdejo: grassy and dry, but not acidic. We shared the rather rich Tender Duck Confit and Wild Mushroom Dip with Roasted Garlic, Gruyere Cheese and Toasted Breads appetizer and the only salad choice, a nice-sized, very tasty (and fresh) plate of organic mixed greens with candied Walnuts, English Stilton and sherry vinaigrette.
One piece of the half-inch-chopped roasted (Yukon?) potato that accompanied the Medallion of Beef Tenderloin with Green Peppercorn Sauce small plate was underdone, but the rest of the potato was just fine and the beef, ordered medium-rare, was medium-rare, nicely browned, tasty, and tender. The petite plat of two small Lemon Oregano Lamb Chops , also ordered medium-rare, as rare was not an option, came to the table quite rare, with Kalamata Olive Garlic Puree and Mint.
Did I mention that someone should change the Brookeville Inn's link on Yelp to http://www.theinnatbrookevillefarms.com ? I will.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 31173965Jan 26, 2014
My fiance and I booked this site for our wedding without ever trying the food. I fell in love with with the quaint feeling of the restaurant. So, we decided that we should probably try the food before we set the menu for our menu.
We made a reservation through Open Table for 7pm on a Saturday night. We arrived a bit before 7 and were promptly seated downstairs in a front room. (I believe it was the Bentley room?) The table we were seated at was very near the door to the room, and all night long individuals walked directly behind my door and my chair blocked some of the doorway. This I seriously disliked, but the service was excellent.
For starters we shared the Duck Confit and Wild Mushroom Dip with Roasted Garlic, Gruyere Cheese and Toasted Breads. The mushrooms in the dip were incredibly small, a major win for a person whose fiance hates mushrooms and there were several large pieces of duck in the dip. Not to mention it was delicious.
For dinner he had the Pan Roasted Lobster Tail Littleneck Clams, Pee Wee Potatoe, Fava Beans, Saffron Pan Jus. He said it was delicious. I didn't try it so I will have to take his word for it. While I had the Pork Cheek Ragu, Hen of the woods Mushrooms, Smoked Cauliflower, Bucatini Pasta. My pork cheek ragu was very very good. The sauce was almost like a bbq sauce on the pork and really tied the dish together.
For dessert, I had the "Toasted Almond" Creme Brulee Amaretto, Raspberries. Note I said I had because I didn't let him have a taste. I do not recall any raspberries in the brulee, but there were several other fruits presented with it including blackberries, blueberries and strawberries. A perfectly sweet ending to a wonderful night out.
The experience at the Inn at Brookeville Farms only made me more excited for our wedding.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charmon K.8, MD091Dec 4, 2016
This was my favorite go to brunch spots. Until today...apparently they have a new chef and breakfast must not be his specialty. They changed the French toast, which used to be delicious and now is 4 pieces of dried toast with no flavor. The roasted egg wrap was extremely greasy. We sent our orders back and settled for the pancakes mistake number 3, they were tasteless....
Positive note, the waiter was understanding and patient. I hear that the new chef does well with the dinner items, so there's hope.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tonya H.Brookeville, MD051May 14, 2017
My family and I went here for Mother's Day brunch this year. Seeing the reviews on other websites, I was a bit worried, but went in with an open mind. Unfortunately, the reviews are spot on. Disappointing is the one word that I would use to summarize the experience. For $55, the food selection is extremely sparse. The rib eye at the carving station was "tartare". The brined turkey was tasteless, and we eyed the server using his bare fingers to hold the ham as he carved it. This finger service carried on to the dessert table, as there were no serving utensils, so diners were forced to pick the various selections with their fingers!
Back to the food selection, for $55 One would expect the typical omelette station and waffle station, right? Not here. The closest we had to a waffle was a French toast strata, served without syrup. Not a single pancake to be seen. Not even scrambled eggs for the kids. No breakfast potatoes. Other selections included bacon and sausage links, seasonless salmon, dry sauteed chicken tenders, an arugula salad, some type of quiche slices and there were eggs Benedict. And that's about it folks! $25 would have been too much for this.
The setting is the best thing going for this restaurant. The property is beautiful. It is in need of a new owner, new chef, and new staff to fulfill it's potential. Such a waste!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
