How good is their pecan pie?
A:
Think of the best pecan pie ever. This is where you'd get it. The filling is firm and the crust is flaky. Just don't order the Pee-can pie. That one isn't very good. ?

Another great stop at the Texan Cafe & Pie Shop!
Have you tried the Coconut Pie?
I actually had the sugar free coconut pie and it was great.
Service is always good and how can you not enjoy the surroundings?!
Get by there soon if you've never been!

This evening, I went just 1block North and found The Texan Cafe & Pie Shop.
Wow!
A small diner that has great food and service.
There were so many good sounding choices, I went with the waitresses recommendation of the chicken fried steak, carrots, mashed potatoes and a green salad.
Very good choice and the portions are plenty big.
Don't get in a hurry, this is Not a fast food place, it's way worth the waiting.
Since Pie is on the sign and they give you a dessert menu with 39 different options, you have to try one!
As my friend said, why keep reading after Hot Apple pie?!?!
Another good recommendation!
The pie came out "bubbly hot", with ice cream on top.
Have Mercy.
If you are ever in Hutto, Texas, stop in and have a bite at The Texan Cafe & Pie Shop.

This was our first time in Hutto and highly recommend stopping here! Amanda was amazing and helped us navigate the menu and helped us pick out the best pies! Some of the best customer service we had in a long time! Everything was fresh and homemade. It was well worth the drive from Austin!
Get the onion rings, trust us!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 21, 20241 check-in
Down home cooking in Hutto. My boyfriend is about as country boy as they come and he had a hankerin' for some liver and onions and I do love me some chicken fried steak! We headed out to Texan Cafe and got both our needs met. As someone who grew up in the city, I was not really exposed to organ meats, but I do remember my mom having to eat liver and onions for iron when she was pregnant with my sister. I remember thinking it looked gross and when I tried it, it was confirmed. I will say, however, when the server brought out my guy's plate, I thought, now that actually looks good! I tried it and initially liked the taste, but after a few chews, that distinctive texture and taste came through. I still don't love it, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered. Kelly thought it was better than his Aunt Edna's. High praise, indeed.
As for my chicken fried steak, it was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was the best I've had, but it was flavorful and tender. The macaroni and cheese was cafeteria style, not how I, or anyone I know makes it, but reminded me of how the school cafeteria made it. The okra was perfect and crunchy and not slimy. On Kelly's plate, the green beans looked to be the canned variety, which he loves, but I hate.
The best part was the pie!! They have about two dozen made fresh pies to choose from and we had the skillet apple pie, served hot on a cast iron skillet with a brandy caramel and a large scoop after frozen solid ice cream which melts a little slower than normally ice cream temp. It was AMAZING! Worth the trip and the uncomfortable fullness we felt afterward. We will be back again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tim C.Austin, TX16817Mar 5, 2024
Worst delivery order I've received in a long time.
The chicken fried chicken came with cold gravy. My "loaded potato" didn't have a single topping. The fried mushrooms weren't whole mushrooms, they were sliced. You know why nobody at all deep fries sliced mushrooms? Because the result is essentially mushroom Jerky. Inedible. The oreo cookie pie was just cool whip with oreo crumbles mixed in. Now I remember why I haven't eaten here in so long, ugghh.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - World T.Austin, TX381330Jan 13, 2024
On a nice Saturday afternoon, was looking to find something sweet. After a poor experience at a different bakery, a Google search had me across the Texan Café & Pie Shop. Upon arrival, the place was busy with locals dining in for brunch, with terribly dirty floors. The atmosphere was not well ventilated from the kitchen, but probably due to an older establishment. The place differently had a "locals-type" charm.
The nice hostess directed me to the rear for to-go pie purchases. Two or three other employees greeted me in passing and was very nice. The pie selections looked amazing! I decided on the s'mores, snickers, and Everything But Cake. After the young lady cashed me out, she proceeded to package my items. I appreciated that she washed both her hands and utensil before getting started.
Once I made it home, I was unfortunately disappointed. Both the snickers and s'mores pie were mediocre. They were overwhelming sugary, lacking gourmet flavor depth (ex. like a rich Godiva type chocolate or quality real whipped cream). The Everything But cake was pretty yummy! Next time I'm looking for pie, I now know where to visit, but will be in no rush to return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 21178436Sep 11, 2023
My review is strictly on their key lime pie. I recently had a party and a guest brought a pie from Texan Cafe & Pie Shop...it was SO good!!
It was fresh, tart, and delicious. I'm in far south Austin but if I'm ever in Hutto I would love to stop by for lunch sometime!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Aug 21, 2023
This review is based on PIE alone. Our family has gotten pie from here over the years, and it's nice to have a place you can grab a piece of pie from on a whim. They have a great selection.
It's a toss-up on the favorites - the coconut, German chocolate, and blueberry are all great. The key lime is just okay, not very tart if you like that. They have snickers pie, smores pie, chess pie, and lots of other interesting flavors to choose from.
I've never tried the cobblers because they just don't look appetizing the way they are presented, but I bet they are good. Giving 3 stars instead of 4 because cleaning the display case would go a long way.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Aug 4, 2023Updated review
This place was one of the first places we tried in Hutto. It's our comfort food stop. Hard day? Stop here. Everything we have tried is home cooking good. This time it was the chopped steak, Mac and cheese, and mashers. Their cole slaw is amazing.
The home style service and seating add to the quaintness. Not to mention their pies. We literally order dozens of pies annually. Coconut crème is the BEST. BEST!
Occasionally a wait but that means 15-20 at the busiest. Be patient.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 31, 2020Previous reviewFirst visit. Will definitely be back for pie. The comfort food was so very comforting. Chips and queso was delicious and hot. The chicken fried steak was Texas worthy and the Mac and Cheese was gooey and satisfying. Gallons of half and half sweet tea later (with a cup to go as offered) we left sickeningly full. No room for pie. Suggestion: go for pie and only pie.
