Some time back, TEXACO and EXXON changed a bunch of stations around and this was one of those. It is no longer TEXACO and is now EXXON. The folks that work there actually call it Lakewood Exxon, although many locals still call it the Cave.
The great news is the nearly hidden Beer Cave still exists AND is still guarded by the bear! The cave has an outstanding selection of cold beers of various breweries from far and wide. Plus many of the local brews are in there chilling! It is a great place to walk in on a really hot day as you brew browse.
The wine selection outside of the cave is quite good for a gas station. There is yet another large cooler with all kinds drinks. There are a few of the common food items on the shelves to include Velveeta! Now I know where I can quickly get my queso making supplies and chips before grabbing a couple at my hangouts.
This place sells lottery tickets and all kinds of other convenience store products. You can get your laundry soap and paper towels on the way to one of the local bars or restaurants that are within eye sight or around the corner to Lower Greenville! This place is nearly at the center of my universe! Or at least the Skillman/Live Oak/LaVista world!
I've heard one of the nearby bar tender/drink making wizards send patrons here for their tobacco needs. It is walking distance from at least 4 bars and 4 restaurants. I might even know of a patron who tried to walk off a drink by shopping here.
If nothing else, get a picture of your date with the bear!
The store and pumps are open from 6 AM to Midnight.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - James C.Heath, TX28214Feb 23, 2021
The Beercave there has a great selection at good prices. Very friendly and helpful employees.

My partner and I have been a customer of this Exxon since we moved to Dallas 15 years ago. Everyone that works there is very friendly. My partner and I have not had one issue or bad experience. To the person complaining about getting a receipt? They offer one to me every single time I buy something and they always have over the past 15 years. A bit extreme to take away stars over a receipt. Stuff breaks sometimes.
This Exxon has a wide selection of almost everything you would expect from a convenient store. Remember it's called convenient store because it's convenient (Close to your home, Don't have to deal with check out lines at grocery store.......) You pay the price for the convenience. I see a lot of complaints that their prices are too high and then say go to 7-11. This Exxon is not a corporate owned gas station. Of course 7-11 is cheaper because they operate thousands of locations and have an upper hand negotiating prices. And 7-11 has their own private label (products). Exxon, compared to where I live, is way more convenient than walking or driving 1.5 miles to 7-11. Support a local small business.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren V.Dallas, TX42121203Nov 3, 2016
I love this little store. I've been coming here for 10+ years and the staff is always super friendly.
They have an incredible Beer Cave - icy cold and stocked with some unique beers/ciders, as well as all the usual suspects.
Since they have a little bit of everything, they've saved the day on more than one occasion when I've run out of something or been under the weather and a trip to the grocery store just was not going to happen.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Douglas S.Dallas, TX7812329Dec 29, 2009
This beer store first, gas station second, is conveniently located at a perfect cop monitoring spot of at least four bars, maybe five.
For that they are obviously deducted one star, so we'll start with four:
The wine selection and the imports, which doesn't usually matter to me, because I drink the same beer, be it at a nice restaurant, dive bar, airport/plane, school, in the back of a cab, the first date or behind the dumpster on a cold rainy night. (0 star deduction)
The big hairy bear next to the walk-in cooler... (+1 star)
The "closed for cleaning" sign on the bathroom door, which I have used and can vouch is sparkly clean, that has been hanging there for over a year pisses(pun intended) me off. I'm sure the regulars get a hall pass, but for the poor nobodies, that's just rude. (-1 star for the nobodies, +1 for the locals = 0 deduction)
The automatic door that opens just for you and if not mistaken, even has red carpet...(+1star)
No lemons after buying fresh salmon from Whole Foods and forgetting to get them there (which is my fault, but hey) and of course, for not being open 24/7. (-2 stars)
Four biguns ...
Oh, and screw them and the cops... I'll walk there and piss in my own front yard. (no deduction)Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jose C.Dallas, TX50410Dec 21, 2010
Ahhh, Lakewood Texaco, how I love thee! You get minus one star for the inconsistent gas prices, but it's never a rip off. Also, I dare you to find a friendlier crew working a gas station. Every single visit, I find them upbeat, with smiles on their faces, and always attentive. Sorry Lakewood Texaco family, but now we're getting to the real reason of the review.....
.......the Beer Cave! Watch out for the cave's guardian, that bear keeps the young ones out. Great selection for being at a gas station (gimme my PBR and Negro Modelo!) and the beer stays abnormally cold, always a welcome trait. Prices on the beer is about average, with weekly specials as well. The main draw for me is the convenience of this place, since it is 2 mins from my place and basically on the way to most of my destinations nowadays.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Loryn K.Dallas, TX212Feb 11, 2015
If you're a beer enthusiast and on-the-go, this is the best place to pick-up beer! I usually drop-by this Texaco twice a month for shin-dig supplies. What makes this gas-station so special is the Beer Cave. Yes, Beer Cave. They have about seventy types of beer in a walk-in refrigerator. The beer types range from domestic, import, local and cider. You can even buy chilled bombers! They have a selection that would make most grocery stores jealous with envy.
Sure, the prices are a tad higher. This is a gas-station. However, the prices are compensated by the ease of purchase. You can park in the front, run into the Beer Cave, walk to the counter, pay quickly and be on your way. I'm never in Texaco for more than five minutes. If you're on the go, this is much easier than stumbling into Walmart. (Who wants to go to Walmart? Not me.)
The staff is always pleasant. They cater to your needs, dropping whatever they're doing to be help you. (Usually, they're cleaning when I walk into the gas-station. That's always a great thing to witness!) I've never had a problem with paying, cash or card. Just remember to bring your identification because they ask every time.
The only (other) thing that you need to take into consideration is the closing time - 9:00PM. This Texaco closes shop pretty early. So, if you're needing supplies, go earlier in the day/night. If you're someone that likes to hit the bars first and then pick-up something for an after-party, make a mental note to pick-up beer before heading to Cosmos, Pour House and/or Lakewood Landing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Terry B.Dallas, TX06Oct 27, 2013

I've been about 10 times just because of where I live and every time it's painful. The receipts never ever print and you get a bullshit excuse about the weather (year round). The credit card/debit card at the pump only works about 50% of the time. Don't waste your time. Go a half mile to the 711 or Shell on Greenville/Richmond.

One of the best beer selections in the area. The only reason for just three stars is that they seem to have increased their prices. Their 6 packs are usually $.50 to $1.00 more than everywhere else. The still get a mostly positive rating for being a neighborhood fixture (they are family run and have won best of as the previous reviewer mentioned) and convenient. They are still my standby when I need to pick up a quick, quality sixer.
