This place will forever have the best ginger dressing I've ever had in my life. I got the chicken teriyaki salad recently and while delicious I found the size to not be worth the price

When Ten Zen first opened I got a create your own bowl that was delicious. I decided to treat myself for the first time in a while while walking by so I got the same bowl. Chicken, pork, some veggies and garlic sauce. The sauce was sour and had an off taste but that wasn't nearly as bad as the meat. This was about 2 weeks ago and that's the last day I've had meat. The meat in this bowl was tasted off and was texturally not meat. I give them 2 stars because their ginger salad dressing is amazing.

I picked up an order of chicken pad Thai, medium spicy. I was shocked to discover the chicken consisted of dark meat that looked like scraps thrown together. There was ALOT of chicken and it was not of good quality. I've never had chicken pad Thai with anything but white meat and googled it just to make sure. I put the meat aside and had the noodles. Won't be back with so many other Asian options in the neighborhood.

Finally tonight, on the coldest night of the year so far, I placed an order for pickup. I selected a create your own bowl dinner, $12.25 with tax. I selected chicken and beef as the proteins and bell pepper, onion and string beans as the veggies over brown rice and miso soup as the side. With garlic sauce on the side. The brown rice was in its own box as was the protein and veggies. And a cup soup sized miso.
I place the brown rice into a dish, added some of the sauce and the protein veggies and it tasted fresh and delicious, without the oils other places use. I few like I'm eating a healthy meal. And it's a sizable portion. I'm saving the entree half and soup for tomorrow: prices are fair, the service is prompt and friendly and the food is delicious! Can't wait to try more dishes. They offer a create your own bowl lunch for $10 with tax. - Vivian E.New York, NY1154217Aug 12, 2022
I normally do pick-up from here when I have a sushi craving... I get in my steps and get great yummy fresh seafood as my reward. Friendly on the phone, polite and friendly when you walk-in. If you're in the Rego Park area and up for a 20-30min walk this is the place to go for Japanese (sushi/sashimi) food. I highly recommend it. The food is great they have lots of other Asian dishes and the prices are reasonable. Give it a try! They don't have seating I don't think it's a sit down place (not sure if that's due to covid) or take out only.

Loved the former version of this place since JHS (formerly known as Tokyo Teriyaki). It was a literal hole in the wall next to the 112th precinct run by an old couple. When they retired, the new owners apprenticed with them to learn the recipes and they've certainly mastered a few. They opened under a new name/new space and while it certainly isn't the exact same, they've kept a few things consistent:
- amazing ginger dressing
- great fried chicken rolls (never really loved the raw fish rolls from this place)
- solid chicken teriyaki sandwiches.
As much as I intend to, I never really deviate from these items because they're the best (in my opinion). I recommend!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 100192231Jan 8, 2021
Ten Zen is right near my apartment building, which is super convenient! They're on most of the delivery apps, which is great. Because I live so close I just called 15 minutes before I wanted sushi. Great covid protocol right now and the sushi I was amazing. I had the soft shrimp and volcano roll. I will definitely be returning!

Tokyo teriyaki 2.0? Kind of... I only went once so far but here are my impressions:
1-Location is somewhat inconvenient. Luckily there's a bunch of no standing spots around so its possible do a pickup run by yourself.
2-The prices are definitely more expensive 1-2 dollars more which is puzzling because they're in a less central location with likely less rent.
3-the Karage portion seemed to actually be bigger than tokyo teriyaki whereas the katsu curry meat portion was actually surprisingly little; there definitely need to be more meat in this one.
I'll definitely be giving tenzen one more shot but I find it very unlikely that it'll enter my forest hills food rotation. It's a little too far(especially for winter), it's a little too expensive(not good enough value) and the food is not quite great enough to make the stretch over there. Regardless when i'm desperate for a change in pace i'll be at tenzen.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 398081929Mar 20, 2019Updated review
I ordered from them again: delivery, using their website. Chicken karaage, sashimi, gyoza, edamame, miso soup. The food was better this time, and the Japanese sodas had an interesting bottle design.
The delivery was partly botched though. I specified a delivery time on the ordering page, and they delivered 45 minutes early. They do know that food gets cold, don't they?Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 26, 2019Previous reviewThis place opened a few days ago, so I thought I'd check it out.
The interior looks clean and modern. Dining-in wouldn't be a bad idea, though I went with takeout.
I ordered the Sushi Dream Box. The box has individual compartments for each piece of sushi. I would imagine that this is a great feature for people who are picky about which sauce goes on which type of fish, but the only sauce they packed was soy sauce.
The rice used in the nigiri sushi was undercooked, though it was still good. The dream roll is listed as containing tobiko and spicy mayo, but it didn't seem to have those ingredients. Again, it still tasted good.
I'd go again. Hopefully they'll have the few small issues fixed by then. - David X.Kew Gardens, NY4335965Oct 15, 2021
Probably the only place with fried chicken sushi and I don't hate it. The chicken katsu sandwich is good and I usually get the fried rice (without bean sprouts because those are nasty).
For a nice spot in a nice neighborhood it's good. The prices aren't expensive and their two rolls special is great for good lunch.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 11, 2020
My first time here but it was a delivery. They are relatively new, meaning that past year or so. I've noticed them walking by as they are kind of tucked away a few blocks off of the Blvd. I've never been inside, but the store itself looks pretty small.
Just going off of the menu, they are Asian Fusion place with a lot of options based of Japanese style dishes. The food was good and the delivery was fast. I'm not too far but still, it's great when the food comes fast and still hot.
So the menu is pretty unique in sense that it blends some Asian flavors. I got the General Tso's Chicken but chose the Bento Box option which was interesting and good. It came with an option of sushi or california roll, and gyozo as well. It also came with a soup. I also have tried the Tonkatsu Bowls where were good as well. Portions were a little small for my taste but they were well priced. I will definitely be back to try more of menu.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0
