I'm a huge fan of Taylor Gourmet and it's a shame that this location isn't up to par with the others. It's a pretty small shop so I wouldn't come here with a large group - plan to get your sandwich to go. The customer service isn't as friendly as other Taylor's.
My go-to is the Pattison, but I decided to try the summer seasonal sandwich "Orchard" this time. The sandwich was underwhelming and I was craving something crisp/crunchy to offset the soft turkey, brie, and peach slaw. While other sandwiches are solid, this one was not for me.
I won't go out of my way to come back, but it's one of the healthier options on H St.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 26, 2017
Came here after searching on Yelp, wanting an Italian hoagie after my meetings in Apollo. Better than subway. The bread is a little meh but makes up for it with a decent amount of meat and a tantalizing punch of sharp provolone and vinaigrette.
Pricing is a touch higher than subway which may be unfair comparison but there you go, and I'm willing to pay the extra buck for better quality. I recommend this place if you want a decent sub and are in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sam S.Washington, DC1452941262Feb 26, 2018
Taylor Gourmet has a nice menu filled with delicious sounding sandwiches and salads.
This space on H street is in a prime location, but each time I've been the restaurant has been filthy. Crumbs everywhere, food left on tables, spilled drinks etc. makes for a rather unpleasant dining experience.
The 9th and the federal are my favorites here, very fresh Italian subs... and the perfect size! I like that for less than $3 you can add a side and a drink to your sandwich. For the quality of the food pricing is good.
I'd also mention that you will definitely have to wait a good amount of time for your sandwich, despite how many people are in line. Don't choose Taylor Gourmet if you're in a rush for lunch.
Overall, a solid place for a classic sandwich, but definitely recommended calling ahead / using the app and getting your order to go.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ahmad A.Rancho Cucamonga, CA498388Jun 30, 2018
Hoagies and salads are what they do and what they do is great. The hoagie of choice turned out to be a roast beef on original bread and it hit the spot. Very fresh meat and veggies. I also ordered tossed greens on the side.
The reason I didn't give them a 5-star is because there were no outlets and no WiFi. Also, the meal was $12 for a sandwich and a small side salad. Granted, the hoagie and salad were fresh and of quality.
Ultimately, I'd go back but I'd absolutely prefer a place with WiFi and outlets.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I ordered catering from this location for an office meeting, and was super impressed. Delivery guy arrived 15 mins early, and all items were accounted for and packaged neatly.
The South Deux (chicken cutlet) was a favorite, and the vegan Cumberland comprised of chickpea fritters got surprisingly rave reviews - because honestly, when does a vegan sandwich ever impress? My personal favorite is (and always will be) the Cherry Street, which is the perfect combo of meaty (roast beef), creamy (brie!!) and spicy (cherry peppers, arugula). They provided Herr's potato chips which merits props, though I do wish there was a larger variety - we were only given plain and sour cream/onion. However, the chocolate chip and lemon cookies were the perfect sweet ending. It came out to roughly $16/pp for a full sandwich, chips and a cookie - comparable to what we've paid elsewhere, so no complaints there.
Overall, TG delivered where it counts when it comes to catering - quality and timeliness. I won't hesitate to order from this location again!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I've been wanting to try out Taylor Gourmet for awhile now. Lucky for me it was open until 3am (Fridays/Saturdays, and Sundays if the following Monday is a holiday), as I came here after a night of bar hopping around H street.
Upon recommendation of a customer who just gobbled hers down, I ordered a 6" Vine Street Expressway(breaded or grilled chicken cutlet, prosciutto, pesto, sharp provolone (6"-$7.10 and 12"-$9.50). Five minutes later (as promised by the man behind the counter), my ordered was called. Overall, I thought the sandwich was good. The bread was nice and crispy and the chicken (I got it grilled) had a good amount of flavor to it. I thought the sharp provolone (yes, I know it's supposed to have a more salty, pungent taste to it) over powered the rest of the sandwich. If I didn't pick apart my sandwich, I wouldn't have known I had pieces of prosciutto and pesto spread on it. I would have liked this sandwich better with a different cheese. I also tried a risotto ball (5 balls for $4.50). I thought it was okay, definitely had gooey cheese oozing out of it when you bit into it though.
I'll be back to try one of their other sandwiches.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nia W.Washington, DC0142Feb 16, 2018
My coworker is a faux foodie so he recommended this place once, during the Super Bowl to be exact. He claimed they had some really good sandwiches and he offered to drive so I'm like "Why the hell not?" I was in the mood to try something new.
Anyway, ordered a sandwich and it was just alright. Let me explain, the contents were delicious but bih, the bread was hard as hell. I took a bite and had to make sure I still had all my teeth in my mouth. I ended up having to let the sandwich get a little soggy before I could finish it.
Now I love to eat and I hardly if ever complain about food but good grief! Either they overcooked them joints or they had them sitting out too long. Doesn't matter, the damn bread was hard af and you could use those as a weapon. I remember doing the Grindin' beat using the top half on my desk.
Won't be eating here again, unless they offer booze.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 25, 2016
This location is the original DC location of Taylor Gourmet. Now they are all over the city and suburbs. This location has two main rooms for people to sit and is in the middle of the bustling H Street NE food scene.
When Taylor's first opened, the bread was made fresh from Philly early each morning and driven to this location (How cool is that?!). I am sure they no longer do that, but the bread is still quality as is the menu.
Taylor Gourmet makes seasonal sandwiches now, but I'm still a sucker for their chicken cutlet sandwiches like the Vine. It's perfectly breaded chicken cutlet with pesto sauce, prosciutto, and provolone. It's pretty big so definitely just order a sandwich; no need for extra food.
The one downside of Taylor Gourmet is their soda fountain. They sell artisan sodas, but I don't think it's very good and the taste seems always a tad off. My recommendation to Taylor is to find another artisan soda maker. Other than that, this is a GREAT place for an easy meal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mrs. Tiffany H.Northeast Washington, Washington, DC438119Mar 10, 2018
Open til 3am on Friday night. You can't beat that! Plus it's a healthy option for late night eats in DC. The Turkey Locus on multi grain bread...was yummy.

I'm from Philly and went to D.C. for a concert without knowing anything in the area.
My boyfriend, brother, and I walked pass this place and figured it looked like a nice place to eat.
We read the menu and it was all named after things in Philly! That's when we knew we HAD to try it. =P
We got 2 foot long hoagie meals to share. It was about $13 each. Pretty pricey but the sandwiches were huge and they stuffed it with a lot of meat so it was totally worth it!
We got both a hot and a cold hoagie to try: Philadelphia Landfill & South Street.
I, personally, loved the Philadelphia Landfill! The South Street was okay.. Only because I'm not a huge fan of chicken cutlet. My brother loved it though.
I wish they had a Taylor in Philly!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
