This was one of the strangest RV Parks I've ever experienced. I called two Asheville area campgrounds. Both of which said that they were within 10 miles to downtown and both were around $40 per night. When I called this one, I was told that there were plenty of sites available, but when we arrived, there were only about five sites. I guess he didn't foresee them filling up. The check-in building was locked, so I called back and was told that the sites available were posted at the door. Don't let the under 10 miles to downtown quote fool you though, it was still a $20+ Uber ride to and from the campground to downtown. We were only staying one night, so we wanted to keep the RV hooked up to the truck.

When you first notice the campground from Tunnel Road, it looks like a storage lot. Several of the RVs were covered and obviously stored away for the season. Don't be mistaken though, you pull around to the right and you will find the actual sites. I liked that you couldn't see the actual nonstorage sites, from the road. I'm not sure if those sites open up as regular sites late in the season, or not. That's how it was in May.

The rows were organized or named by A, B, and C. We were in row C which were pull through sites. I only noticed the backup sites in row A. I didn't notice a stream or any water as mentioned in another review, so maybe the sites in row A backup to that area. The sites were very close to each other. The few campers that we came into contact with were nice, just hanging out having a few beers. Hence the name, this is a place for beer fans. Actually, all of Asheville is. I'm not judging though, we visited a few breweries, this trip too. What I didn't like about some of the campers, was that they didn't clean up after their dogs. There was a field area that they allowed them to do their business and moved on... I noticed at least three people do that. Yuck.

The sewage drain was covered by a rock when we got there. Strange. We didn't smell anything once we got set up, but each spot on each side of us was occupied and hooked up. Overall, a site with full hookups is pretty reasonably priced.

I am a full time RVer and new at it too. (I have been living in the RV for 2 weeks now)

I have been at Taps for 4 days now and am enjoying it a lot. (I'm staying a month for the fall) The grounds are neat. (a little tight but fine) Behind my rig there is a river and it is relaxing to sit and listen to the water ramble by over the rocks. There is a field behind the stream that I sometimes can see horses from my site. There are trains that come by a few times a day and the track is a few hundred yards from the site. I love the sound of the trains.

There are cool views that can be seen of the mountains while walking around the park. There are stores and restaurants in walking distance. Mexican, Italian, and Arby's and Bojangles. There is a gas station nearby for beer or gas etc. There is a farm stand 2 doors down to get veggies for grilling.

Bill the owner I see every day and he is great. He helped guide me into my spot - being new and it was a little tight. He is around the grounds every morning and into the early afternoon. I've see him helping a lot of people with big rigs getting in or out.

This RV park is right near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Pky which I love. It is only about 10 min to drive to Asheville - an amazing town. There are a lot of things to see and do here. I walked yesterday morning and found Billy Graham's training center - amazing grounds to walk around.

My site has electric and water and cable and wifi and sewer. It has a small privacy fence and it has a picnic table. I'm on a cement slab for stability and have grass around the "yard". There are bathrooms and showers for those that don't have one in the rig and there is a free washer and dryer in one of the bathrooms.

The neighbors are all nice - some are full time here and many here for the fall like I am. There are 1/2 million dollar rigs here and a few that are old and have character. (even a pizza truck.

I am enjoying it here and sure am glad to be here. I'll hope to be back next fall if I'm in this part of the country.

There are no bins to place recycle materials.

I've posted a number of images taken here at Taps and in the neighborhood.

I'm traveling the road to Happy Destiny and this is a great stop along the way.

We are full-timers with 40' 5th wheel. We stayed at Taps for a few nights to tour Biltmore Estates. Full hook-up, 40/50 amp. and reasonably priced. Directly off the interstate where many interstates intersect.

Close to many area sites to tour (Blue Ridge Parkway, Biltmore Estates to name a few) and other fun activities (4 top white water rafting close by).

The owner Bill is very nice and accommodating. We will stay again next year if we come this way.

The only thing this park has going for it is location. There is no field with horses as stated in prior review. Sites are small and there is no parking except in the road which makes maneuvering difficult. The electric system went down and was repaired. However, we kept getting low voltage errors and losing power to our rig. We finally just left and are staying at a great park in Waynesville.
I wouldn't recommend this RV park.

      First to Review

I have a mixed review for this place. I'm not a fan for RV parks in general, State parks are so much better, but this one is directly next to the Blueridge Parkway, Folk Art Museum and WNC Nature Center (a must go), AND its only 5 miles from downtown, so location cannot be beat.
Having spoke to one other person who stayed here, they said the yard area was small. I agree, for the most part but it's winter and I don't mind as much, plus you get your own picnic table and small, tall fence to block out the neighbours. We have a dog and a cat and both have plenty of space in the "yard" to sit in the sun and walk around a bit. This being said, I think it is because we are staying a month that we got a decent spot. Everyone next to us is also more long term, construction workers etc.
We were put right in the back, with a beautiful view of the river and a field of horses on the other side. There is a train just past the horse field and though they can be a little noisy, its never bothered me. A cardinal sits outside the window while we work (at home) and a mallard duck couple and several doves walk around the park pecking the ground. There is also a great little park on the river, just below the motel next door with a Canadian geese couple. On the way to the park is a half finished frog pond filled with frogs and there isn't a pile of dog poo to be seen. So basically if you are staying long enough to appreciate this place. its awesome, If you are a one nighter, I have nothing to say. One or 2 nights is never long enough anywhere to say anything about.

Only negative thing is that I have never seen the owners or any manager type in the whole month here. Whenever we walk to the office to ask a question, there is no one there and doesn't seem to be anyone on site. Which is fine, just odd since I'm used to seeing owners of RV parks running around doing things all day. Again, it is winter, so maybe that is why.
If you are in Asheville area for a bit, stay here.

We stayed for 2 nights in our 5th Wheel Toy hauler due to the close location to the parkway. We made the mistake of 'calling' in our stay request and we explained we would be a late arrival. It got confusing after that and I had a hard time understanding the 'goober' type instructions gave to me since he would not be there when we arrived. We were told to first check the printout of the vacancies on the office door, pick a space and pay the next day. Upon arrival we stopped in front of the office and I tried to interpret the print out but I didn't do a very good job. We found an empty spot and parked. There was no 'reserved' sign out so I figured we were good. WRONG! After setting up camp and showering and just getting into bed we heard a bus idling for a long time so we stepped outside and talked to the driver and he 'very nicely' told us we were in their reserved spot. They felt bad we felt embarrased. Bad thing is we could get by with 30 amps, they had to have 50 so we packed up and luckly only had to pull up one slot. We walked down to the office and left a note for the owners. Very weird establishment. sewer hook up had a pepsi bottle for a cover!!!

Grounds were ok but I we had a 'runner' run through the grounds running from the police or someone. Yea...I wouldn't stay her again and we found out there was a KOA just up the road that was for the same price.
