Q:
Do they have all you can eat?
A:
I don't believe they do, however the meals are very generous and will be plenty. The sushi and sashimi dishes are made with the very freshest fish. You can't get better sushi or sashimi anywhere!

Do yourself a favor and avoid Hana Tokyo, come here instead. Flavors are good but my only complaint is that I wish the meals came with more vegetables.
Did not give the sushi a try, so I can't speak on the quality. In all fairness, this is a small desert town in a landlocked state, what can you really expect?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Liz W.Sierra Vista, AZ04662Jan 20, 2024
Three of us dined here mid week.staff was friendy.
Front dining was full and noisy. Seated in back with alot of knic knacs.
Table and chairs are bolted to the ground. It seems they might have been outdoor tables and then enclosed.Food was okay. Nothing spectacular. Appetizer special of 1/2 of 3 rolls was disappointing. Person orderd 3 rolls but wasnt impressed by freshness or presentation of soft crab roll.Miso didn't arrive until entrees. Will probably try somewhere else before spending $80 on dinner for 2 in SV.
This place is closed Sunday & Monday and only open for dinner 4:30p-8:00p.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - J D.Tallahassee, FL340110Nov 7, 2023
For the love of sushi, I visited what is said to be the highest rated and best sushi in Sierra Vista. Maybe it is but it was not good for me.
The Food. I ordered the Tempura Roll, the King Cobra Roll, Spring Rolls, and it came with a house salad. The Sprint Rolls and House Salad were a decent start. It was standard food fare. When the sushi arrived, I said "Ok...with some energy" because the King Cobra Roll looked like it might be really good. Nope: the unagi was mushy, slimy, and gritty. I ate one piece and I knew. At least the Tempura Roll was edible but it was bland. I only use soy sauce when I have sushi with no taste. I needed soy sauce and the sweet chili sauce from the spring rolls to give it some flavor. Also, the sushi was not cut fully so it unrolled as I grabbed a piece (unsharp knife or warm rice that sat on seaweed too long). $38 total.
The Location. It's on the main strip in Sierra Vista.
The Service. As stated by most reviewers, the owner and staff were warm and communicative. It was Friday night, it was packed, and I had to wait 15 mins to be seated. I am accustomed to clearing plates as we eat. At Tanuki, it appears as if plates are cleared after you finish with everything.
Overall. If I am ever craving sushi again when I am in Sierra Vista, I might try it again but I would make some additions and subtractions to the rolls I order.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 2, 2023
I want to love this place, but the sushi is just too inconsistent for it to be a favorite in town with so little options. The first time I dined at Tanuki was absolutely amazing. The sushi was fresh and everything else we ordered on the menu tasted amazing. The second time I went my husband and I were both served sushi that smelled and tasted rotten. It's really hard to go back somewhere when it's left an unsavory flavor in your mouth for the last time. The restaurant is a hoarder's paradise of knickknacks on the walls and the shelves, which looks like it could use a dusting.
The owners are warm and friendly. They have always treated us and our children wonderfully (especially with the free pocky). We will be back, but probably not for sushi.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Denise T.San Carlos, CA6189204Feb 17, 2023
Came with a friend. She likes the teriyaki. Fish is fresh. Eel & miso soup were good. When it comes to the rolls with imitation crab they use the "stick". I hate the stick. IMO it's cheap & nasty & they use too much rice. Not my thing. Probably will try again & order Sashimi, MAYBE

Love the atmosphere, the food is great!
The plum wine is a must try. Beware, it is SUPER sweet.
It's my go-to place for fresh sushiHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 19134163Aug 28, 2022
We tried the Kamikaze roll, miso soup, ginger salad, gyoza, and teriyaki chicken- everything was delicious. The service was super nice and pleasant. The restaurant is so generous, lots of character and eclectic. Will definitely be back.

I've been dining at Tanuki's for more than a quarter century. Maggie and her staff are always on the ball serving up some great sushi, yes, even in a land-locked state.
If you're in this corner of Arizona and are craving sushi, Tanuki's is the clear destination of choiceHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - M C.Post Falls, ID57751Jun 23, 2022
Food is decent. Sukiyaki is a bit too sweet. We eat Sushi all over the country so we are probably not the best at reviewing because on a scale of 1 to 10 this is actually about a 4 on food and a 2 on service. Our server, not one time, checked on us! Not even to offer a go box. Then we waited for 22 minutes with empty plates and he continued walking past. Not sure if there is any other sushi place in the area, but we certainly will be looking.:

Let me start off by saying, I'm always on Yelp checking for reviews but never leaving them.
We're new to the Sierra Vista area, originally from Oregon but had been living in Hawaii for the past 5 years. Sushi is our favorite dish and we've had some amazing fish over the years.
Upon walking in, we were immediately (and very warmly greeted) by Maggie and a couple servers. We got to choose where we wanted to sit and got our drinks very quickly. We proceeded to order 8 rolls, as we were very hungry and wanted to try several dishes. Our server recommended the Jim Cott roll, we ordered 2. Not even 5 minutes later, Maggie was at our table with our complimentary miso soups and salads. She also brought with her an incredible salad that our server said was called "Maggie's Salad". She offered it to us and apologize that her chefs called out and they only had the one for the evening and wanted to tie us over for the "wait". I put the wait in quotes because about 6 minutes later 5 of the 8 rolls arrived on a platter, the other 3 arriving about 3 minutes after that. We expected a 20-30 minute wait minimum after Maggie apologized saying there'd be a wait, but there wasn't at all! We seriously hadn't even finished the calamari salad yet, and we were eating it pretty quickly. The sushi itself was SO FRESH. We didn't expect it to be so incredible being that Arizona is land locked, but it was! The salmon melted in your mouth, the rainbow roll was fantastic, the Jim Cott roll was my personal favorite (huge thank you to our server for the recommendation), and the service was awesome! My tea cup was never empty and we didn't have to wait for boxes or our bill. I couldn't recommend this place more. Great food and great service. We will be going back often!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
