2 reviews for Tahoe Amusement Park
I, Kealoha Villa, was once a Carny.
Yes it is true. A few years ago during the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2003, I worked at local amusement park. The winter was ending and I was in need of a job. The family business was not looking that appealing to me as I had done that job for the past couple of summers and needed something less... back-breaking. So I went around town looking for something to do. One day while job hunting, I came across a sign at the amusement park that says it was hiring. I stopped by and inquired about the job and they were looking for a variety of people to operate the rides. I thought "Why Not?", it couldn't be worse than shoveling rock all day long in the hot sun.
It was still a couple of weeks before opening when I was hired on so that left me with needing something to do and it ended up being minor maintenance around the park, to get it ready for opening. Which meant painting this, cleaning up around the park, etc. The hardest thing was the carpet strips. Oh what a pain in the ass that was. They big slide had bolts in between each chute on the slide. Kept each section together. Well in the past people had cut themselves on it, so the new owner decided to take care of that. So we cut long strips of carpet and glued them on, covering the bolts. Myself and another guy did this. It was long and difficult as it required one of us to kneel on a sack and glue the strips and the other to hold that person in place with a rope from up top. We took turns.
After training which consisted of safety lessons, showing us how to operate the ride, what we needed to tell the riders as they got on,etc. I was ready to operate the little rollercoaster. Throughout my time there I ended up not only running every ride there, nearly lost a foot and I also lost 40lbs running around that place. (Shooo... ! :P )
For those who visit though, you might want to know what's there to do a t the place. Well I will tell you that now.
They have a huge metal slide. (Ride in the early morning or at night, because all it does is bake in the sun all day long.)
They have a little train rollercoaster.
They have go-karts (So much fun)
They have a Kamikaze-like ride that twirled in the air.
They have a swing-like ride that went around in circles.
And... a few more which escape me at the moment. :)
It's worth spending a couple of dollars at if you are a parent wanting to take your children out for the day in Tahoe. Just remember. It's seasonal. The rides won't work under 6ft of snow. Although I'm sure you could probably snowboard down the slide, but I wouldn't recommend doing so.

This place was horrible. First off, I went to the South Lake Tahoe's website of things to do for kids and this place was recommended. I even talked this place up to my family and friends who were visiting Tahoe.
My sister and I took her daughters here for a fun time. When we drove up the place looked deserted. Most of the rides were not operating. When we walked up to the ticket booth (which looked like a dump) the guy who was sitting there smelled like alcohol and looked like he was on drugs. He was very rude and not very helpful. We asked him how many rides were operational and it took him a minute to answer us. All I have to say is if you do not like your job find another one. This guy looked like he was being forced to be there against his will. Although my sister and I were afraid to stay we still purchased tickets which to say the guy made up his own prices (there were no prices listed).
Second, we purchased tickets for the go-karts and it took 5 minutes for someone to come over to us to help with the ride. The guy who managed the ride was also very rude and mean. When he gave us instructions he made the go-karts seem so unattractive and at that point we wanted to leave. He also looked like he was on drugs.
We finally went on the famous slide which you require potato sacks to ride down. The lady who took the tickets looked like she had been up for days and was not very helpful either. She failed to mention that each row of the slide was a different level (meaning certain rows go faster than others). My 5 year old niece went down the fastest row and she actually flipped over as she was coming down and because the slide was so hot she burned and cut herself. She also got bruises. My niece was actually traumatized and cried most of the night.
I tell you parents do not take your kids to this amusement park as it is not safe. If you do go do so at your own risk.
