This beautiful Resturant is a great place to stop in along your travels on Shelter Island. They sit higher up and have a dining room that overviews the town and a main strip of road. The bar is equally nice with a clean setting and nice large windows.
The first thing my boyfriend and I noticed thought when we walked in was a really funky smell. I couldn't put my finger on it but he said it smelt like urine. Weird.
We sat at the bar (which was fully stocked) and although they didn't have a drink menu they had a wine list so I just asked the guy to make me a white Russia. I was sort of thrown off by my drink because he put it in a small rocks glass and all I really got was a small watered down drink. If you are mixing more than 3 or more liquids together it should at least be in something a little bigger than a rocks glass.
We looked over the entire menu even though we were just getting an app the have a really nice selection. We went with the goat cakes which were made from seasoned goat cheese and then lightly breaded and fried. They were sooooo good!! Some raspberry sauce on the plate made it even better.

      Fantastic service and food.
I rely on Yelp for food choices at all times and I have to say that the reviews for this establishment were just plain wrong.
We had dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, a party of 4. Hands down, we all felt the appetizers and entrees were delicious and fresh. The service was beyond attentive. Extra points to the waiter who took one diner's lactose intolerance with great sincerity, even replacing a side of potatoes when he realized they had mistakenly been prepared with butter.
The grilled calamari appetizer was fresh, unique, and full of flavor.
The side of risotto blanca was delicious.
The lobster and fluke specials were flavorful and generous portions of fresh seafood.
      Great ambiance and very clean.
Everything was fantastic. 5 stars for Sweet Tomatoes!

Literally just got my food from this place and it's probably one of the worst items I've ever ordered EVER and actually had to pay for. I have never been so upset over a THIRTY TWO dollar meal that consisted of beets from a can cut up and two mini got cheese cakes over arugula that was so old, it was half yellow.

This is what they call two appetizers. Laughing? We sure did have a good one.

Things have changed, and not for the best. The menu and possibly the owners have changed. Jimmy, made this place special and whomever took over is far for being able to fill his shoes. When you inquire as to his whereabouts, the staff looks scared and tired of the same question, people can clearly sense something is off. Service was extremely slow. Menu items, at 8:00 pm where already not available, on Memorial Day weekend, this is unacceptable. These new guys were not prepared for this. Our order was taken 20 minutes after we sat down, 10 minutes after that, we finally got some bread. The food was ok, nothing you can't find somewhere else. The most delicious plate on the previous menu, the Cioppino, is sadly gone.

I'm sorry to say, but no Jimmy and no Cioppino means we're probably not going back. The slow service also doesn't do them any favors.

The food was delicious, no denying that. The service really needs work though. Servers seem stretched thin, you could feel the stress. Things got a little sloppy & slammy; Dirty dishes piled up in random areas around tables. They could use a couple busboys picking up the slack.

Recommend the Lamb Shank & Artichoke Dip.

I was ambling along a lil' road close to the inn I'm at, and Sweet Tomatoes (aka Pomadoros Dolce) was the first appealing restaurant I came across. I quickly skimmed over the menu and zeroed in on something small. The Fresh Fig Salad was all that I needed. Quartered figs rested atop a mix of field greens, slivered almonds, gorgonzola, and a yogurt citrus dressing. I love a good mix of fruits, nuts, and greens! I probably belong in California where the flakes and nuts reside. This simply prepared salad is something I could have easily thrown together, so it seemed a bit pricey at 9.95.
The mention of the restaurant made 2 of my resident Italitan co-workers grimace and "blehhhhh!!!". According to them, it's not up to par. Apparently there are muuuuch better places to go on this island.
Sweet Tomatoes gets 3 stars for a creative mix of flavors.

Someone mentioned I should check this out again. Specifically their Bar Menu, for me as a vegetarian and cost conscious, a big improvement. They have fantastic little pizzas.

Great simple pizza, tasty but rich food. Not a gentle touch to say the least, like your talented teenager opened a restaurant that your friends enjoy.

Not too much to say about this place. The food is good & the staff treats you like their own. The only down side is that the menu is a little repetitive for my taste so it's hard to go too often. The pizzas are a good choice but they run out fast most evenings since they're always busy.

      Definitely worth stopping in.
