Healthy southern? Absolutely. Comfort food? Yes! Food for the Soul! The kitchen has done away with the traditional old South dishes (over)-cooked in fat back and pork. Gone is food dripping in butter or deep fried in oil, in favor of sophisticated, low-fat combinations of herbs and spices, clarified chicken broth, vinegar, olive oil and lemon. Sweet Potatoes is, of all things, a very satisfying one-of-a-kind restaurant, serving, among other delectable dishes, sweet potatoes!…

Lunch. It's a modest place so if you want more upscale for dinner i'd recommend downtown like treylor park or Paula Deen's...

Great food. Will be visiting Savannah again soon and will be coming back. Loved the energy there.

Without reservation we decided to "come early" for dinner on a Saturday evening. The place closes at 8, so we arrived slightly before 6.30.

Smoke parking and there's no line which is a good sign. There were 2 other parties in front of us though. Soon after they seated the 1st party and we were told to wait (no specified amount of time). We were probably waited about 20ish minutes before we got out table. The place is packed. Lots of people came after us and had to wait for tables as well.

I was getting worried as I read past reviews while waiting but decided to stick with our venture.

      We were not disappointed!
My fried chicken is super moist even though it was chicken breast. The taste is spot on and the right crunchiness as well.
The catfish is flaky and light.
My husband enjoyed his Jerk chicken. This is super rare because chicken is his least favorite meat, so for him to compliment a chicken dish it must be VERY good

      Updated review

This review has been waiting for an update after Steve sold the business , to see if they kept up the standards. I can tell you that after having eaten there three times now after they sold, it is no longer the award winning sweet potatoes restaurant.
I knew it was no longer under Steve's leadership before I actually asked because I knew and picked up on all the subtle changes.
It's unfortunate that todays experience sealed the deal that we will never return nor will I tell people it's a great place to eat.
Todays experience was awful. The last three times I have gotten the Moroccan salmon. It used to be the best thing on the menu. It is no longer. If the fish isnt raw in the middle than the sauce is off or the biscuit is over done. It's no longer the creation Steve created- I had conversations with him about it. But what was the real kicker was that we sat at the bar and ordered and three other separate people ordered after us and all of their food came out to them before ours. We ordered the Moroccan salmon and a hamburger and fries. As I already said the salmon is no longer the same, and the hamburger came out with a huge black hair cooked into the patty and was disgusting.
When we complained and asked for a new burger to be made, I ate my mediocre dish and my daughter had nothing. To be clean we waited 26 minutes for our food. Remember, the three other separate people at the bar got their food first.
So now we waited another 15 minutes for a 'new burger'. Why the quotes, because we weren't convinced it was a whole new patty because the same exact bun was used and they took the tomato and didnt redress it. Yes same burger bun that the burger with the hair was sitting on!
My daughter was so upset and all the employees and kitchen staff were watching her like ' is she going to eat it?' Did they do something to it? Why was everyone watching her? She was too upset to eat. So we boxed it and were going to at least take it and give it to someone on a corner panhandling. But then we just left it. We were disgusted.
If you are reading this review, this used to be our favorite place to eat. It's no longer. I'm sorry you won't get to know just how great this place used to be under the previous ownership:(

Made a special trip to check this place out. Closed due to unforeseen repairs. wah wah... will have to wait for another review. saw a tik-tok video about the banana pudding, so I asked if I could get one to-go. the very nice lady gave me a day old one for free!

so how was it... well, "world's best!" I dont know about all that. Tastes certainly as good as my home made though, and that's no easy feat. I thought I was going to be turned off by the pecans, but they're actually a nice addition.

I will return soon to gorge on fried chicken and give a more rounded review. Major plusses to being so friendly.

We were pretty disappointed with our experience. The fried catfish with tartar sauce and sweet potato fries were good. Cornbread was fine, but I'm not usually a fan of cornbread.

We were disappointed with everything else: peach glazed BBQ chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, collard greens, cucumbers, and even the banana pudding. The biggest complaint was lack of flavor. The BBQ chicken was dry and parts of it were hot while other parts were tepid.

The banana pudding was ok, but definitely not the best in the world. It was 75% whipped cream (which tasted good), with 25% banana slices and cookie. I don't think the cookies were homemade, either.

We thought it was odd when the table next to us was told they ran out of catfish and chicken breast. At 6:15pm? The waiter told them that chicken tenders would be used instead of breast and they'd have practically the same taste. What?

Service was pretty unorganized. We waited 15 minutes after ordering banana pudding for the waiter to ask if we wanted our bill... we reminded him of our dessert and he was surprised no one brought it to us. It was rushed out with plastic spoons. During our dinner it was not busy, either.

The prices were pretty high for what we received. The inside wasn't anything special. We wouldn't come back.

My wife and I were super excited to try this place. "The World's Best Banana Pudding". So they said. I ordered the Peach BBQ Chicken. The sauce was below average and the chicken was not fresh and was likely warmed up in the microwave. It was unbelievably dry. The collard greens were not seasoned well and below average at best. I also had mashed potatoes. Before I added a lot of salt and pepper they were literally tasteless. My wife had the Catfish which wasn't bad, it would be the dish I would pick if I was forced to go back. The cucumber with sweet mustard side she got was a pretty odd combo for the taste the mustard had. The sweet potato fries she had were the highlight of her underwhelming dinner. They were pretty good. After our dinner we had to try the "world famous" banana pudding. It was extremely over hyped. Very little cookie & a ton of whipped cream. The place didn't have the best vibe either. They had ran out of 3 different key items in the menu and the staff was extremely slow. We had long waits for a restaurant that didn't have many people dining. We were super disappointed and would tell anyone to not risk their money being wasted on such bad meal.

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. I went with my best friend after she suggested this restaurant. The place was about 25 % full when we arrived; therefore, we were seated almost immediately. Our server was pleasant and attentive. My friend ordered orange glazed chicken and brussels sprouts. I ordered a chicken salad. Both were delicious. We waited 15 minutes for our food. So, overall, the service was quick, and the food was yummy. Highly recommend.

Took a trip to Savannah, Ga and saw there were good reviews for this restaurant. My friends and I decided to check it out.

The special that evening was fried chicken. None of us ordered it but we probably should have. I had a vegetable plate with marinated cucumbers, sweet mashed potatoes and cornbread,

My food was okay. It was seasoned but didn't give me any major aha moments.

Our server was really busy but attentive. She was very sweet and assisted us through the night.

Everyone at our table loved the taste and appearance of the food. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and attentive. We were seated in a space like home serving home style goodness. The are options for inside and outside seating.

I had the buffalo chicken salad and it had a nice big juicy piece of buffalo chicken and the perfect amount of blue cheese crumbles! It was hands down the best buffalo chicken salad I've ever had! It was the perfect portions and filled with flavor. This is such a cute restaurant to stop and have lunch! The service is super quick!
