I was in town staying nearby and just wanted some simple, affordable sushi without making a production of it and this place delivered.
Everything I had was good but I have to especially praise their Mexican rolls. I think they're the best I've ever had. The shrimp is served hot and cooked to order, it has some tenderness to it, and isn't fried to a crisp. I highly recommend them and I think they were only $6 an order so it's a total deal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 9, 2013
The interior at Sushi Wave is cool, blue, and modern. All ordering is done through a tablet, which was super easy to use. The pictures and descriptions were helpful. All of the rolls we tried were delicious. My favorites were The Wave (snow crab mix, avocado, and cucumber topped with cubed Tuna and Salmon drizzled with house specialty sauce), The Tuna Crunch (flash fried roll with tuna, cream cheese, and asparagus) and The Electric Eel (crab, cucumber, cream cheese, topped with avocado and broiled eel with eel sauce and tempura flakes.)
Lychee sake and Fried Cheesecake rounded out my meal.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 5836384580Apr 17, 2014
I really enjoyed our lunch at Sushi Wave. The place has a dark, cool, almost night club type vibe. You definitely would not expect the interior to look as nice as it does based on the outside tiny plaza that it shares with Subway.
When we walked in we were immediately seated and handed a tablet. Our waiter quickly described how to use it, put our drink orders in for us and then we started playing. I really LOVE this style of ordering. I think it is particularly useful at a sushi restaurant where you aren't really sure how many sushi rolls you want (or can handle). It also allows you to see pictures and descriptions of the food that a regular menu might not have.
NOTE: Make sure you see the entire menu! We didn't notice that there was an appetizer section until later on (which is the downside to being new to this form of ordering).
When our food arrived the rolls seemed to be about average size for the sushi we have had. We ordered one of my favorites (a Tampa roll) for only $4. We also ordered a spicy salmon roll and a specialty roll (I don't remember which one we ordered). They were all pretty good.
We then realized we were still hungry. So, we grabbed the tablet and we ordered another specialty roll to top us off.
I didn't feel at all that there was a lack of service while using the tablet. It allowed the waiter to wait on us without having to deal with annoying questions and remembering our order. He was still there if we needed him, but he didn't have to be as attentive. The tablet does have an option to call the waiter if you need anything and to get your bill when you are ready. It allows you to set your own dining pace. A total win for us.
While this isn't the best sushi we have had, it was pretty good. The prices are decent (low for basic rolls and a little high for specialty rolls...it balances out for us). We will be returning often for our sushi fix.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 3699451403Apr 1, 2014
Two visits over a 2 week period must mean something good!
First time I was lured In by a living social deal . Was impressed by the modern décor, the cleanliness of it, and the friendliness of the staff.
We got our tablet menu and ordered the tuna TarTare ($9.95) as an appetizer and The crunchy salmon roll as well as the red dragon roll ($11.95)
The tuna was served on thin wonton chips with avocado and was very good. The rolls came just as we f inished and were quite good as well. Nice and fresh, really presented nicely too.
Had a couple of Ichibans and found out they were having an anniversary special for the month of March with half prices appetizers and drinks. Although not available with the LS deal, definitely worth a repeat visit.
So we did, This time we had the edamame ($3.95), mini spring rolls,($4.95) tuna tatare, and red dragon roll. We also accidentally received a dragonfly roll, which I thought technically challenged lunch date accidentally ordered of said tablet, but no it was kitchens err and was comped graciously .
Everything was good and fresh except for the grilled eel could have been better. All tat good plus 4 Ichibans each we got out for $40something. If course, the special is over now so don't count on that, but that wont keep me from returning to this cute little place you'd hardly know is there..Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 28, 2015
My friend and I love ordering from here because the sushi is always fresh and delicious. There are a lot of unique rolls to choose from. My bf loves the Samarai roll. It's Tuna on the inside and on the outside, cucumber and spicy mayo drizzled on top. I ordered the Mexican roll (tempura shrimp, cucumber, and avocado) and for the first time tonight I tried the spicy tuna roll (tuna and cucumber) . I recommend both of these rolls. There's about 8 pieces per roll and pricing is reasonable. They gave an ample amount of wasabi and ginger too! The order was placed by phone and made in no time at all! Parking wasn't an issue because we were only picking up, however, I can see it potentially being an issue during dinner time due to the small parking lot. The location is prime because it is close to Park Ave. Enjoy! xo

I bought take out and I will sum up my visit as, "The good, the bad, and the ugly". Wanted to leave 2 stars but because the staff was friendly and not everything I ate was bad, so I settled on 3 stars.
I love sushi, and I'm not a sushi snob at all, but I do know the difference between good and bad sushi. This was my first time trying Sushi Wave, and I always order a Mexican roll whenever I try a new place. I find that Mex Rolls are a very basic kind of "sushi" to use as a "control" to judge what type of place it is. Some places make it basic, and some try to fancy it up, and normally it says a lot about the sushi chefs and restaurant. My order was a Mexican Roll, Tuna Tempura Roll, and Red Dragon roll.
THE GOOD: Ordered 3 rolls for take out and was told 20 minutes, which I was skeptical because most sushi places on a Friday night take much longer. My order was ready with in 20 minutes, and very friendly staff, awesome ! The Red Dragon roll was pretty good, looked like fresh tuna on top, and not swimming in sauce, it wasn't a OMG type of roll, but tasted fresh. I would definitely order it again.
THE SOMEWHAT BAD: The Mexican Roll had some sort of orange sweet sauce on top of it, and the shrimp didn't taste right. The shrimp wasn't bad, but it didn't seem like it was fried tempura style, it may have been steamed ? I don't know but it wasn't prepared like other places do it. If it had a freshly fried piece of shrimp in it, I'm sure it would've been fantastic.
THE GOD AWFUL UGLY and REAL BAD: I really hate to leave extremely negative comments, but....The Tempura Tuna Roll was disgusting, could only eat two pieces, what the hell is this roll all about ? For one there was zero sign of tempura batter anywhere, and I hate to use this description but the tuna inside looked like cat food. It was grayish and way over cooked, look a my photo and see for yourself. I was expecting a piece of fresh tuna that was battered and fried and prepared like a Mexican Roll. It was a complete fail !
Not sure if I will go back, Hooks and Itchiban are close by and their prices are about the same as Sushi Wave.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dena P.Clearwater, FL230366963Oct 12, 2014
I am totally in love with their modern concept and usage of new technology (ordering off the ipad) it's great and easy to access to whenever you want to browse the menu or order more. Big win here.
The menu isn't large but they do have a good number of rolls. The quality of fish isn't amazing to me as the tuna and salmon on my roll was dull in color and tasted a little off. Yet, the salmon in the sashimi dinner tasted and looked way better. So I would have to say it's a hit and miss with certain items? Their use of sauces and presentation is an A + though. Tasty!
Over all I thought this place is pretty good. I wouldn't say they have the best quality fish, but the vibe is nice. The restaurant is clean and ordering off the iPad is just too fun!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelleigh M.Tampa, FL176956744Oct 8, 2013
Quick and clean! This sushi spot is actually really good if you're close to park blvd/66th street.
I stopped by around 2pm on a Tuesday and they made my 2 classic rolls in about 5 minutes, which was much appreciated considering I was pretty hungry.
The rolls were good and the presentation was nice. The white fish they use in the Tampa roll was good- not too much breading. The same for the shrimp in the Mexican roll.
The pricing was fair and similar to their competitors. All in all, I'd come back.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
