Mandatory to have 15% tips for our party of six , including 2 infants, hot tea has to charge as well, the waitress has no smile at all and let you feel uncomfortable, don't understand how people found that is with friendly staffs. it is not a kids friendly place , food is quite salty, won't be back.

Mandatory 15% tip for "6 or more people" despite the fact that we had an infant, so the waitress barely paid us any attention - had to get up and ask for water at the front counter. Won't be back.
2 stars for tasty food.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 30397529Sep 14, 2019
TL:DR - Great sushi place tucked away in the north side of Calgary.
We wanted to find a sushi restaurant near the hotel we were staying at in Calgary as we always find that the sushi is better quality than what is found in Edmonton. Very odd to me because all the sushi grade fish is shipped over the mountains but for whatever reason sushi is a lot better in Calgary than Edmonton, it makes no sense to me.
In any event Sushi Kimu is a small narrow sushi shop tucked away in a plaza that is pretty hard to miss. There aren't a ton of seats in this place but there's enough space for small groups if necessary. They do a lot of take out orders as well. The small quaint place has a simple decor and is a run of the mill sort of look, nothing too modern but it works.
As for the food, we ordered some agedashi tofu (fried tofu in a sweet soy sauce), an assortment of salmon and tuna sashimi, a Vancouver roll (Avocado, mango and salmon topped with fresh tuna) and a variety of sushi (eel, squid, shrimp, salmon and tuna). The food was all served in a timely manner, the wait didn't feel long at all. While everything didn't come out all at once, it worked because each dish was served with enough time for us to eat it before the next one came out so it never felt like we were waiting very long for our food. The fish was all fresh, the rice was fluffy not overly hard, and most importantly the proportion of fish to rice was perfect, not too much rice (as lots of the less quality restaurants tend to do).
The staff were friendly and didn't check on us too much, something I personally find very annoying. I would come back here next time we're in Calgary again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2019
Jus ordered take out from this restaurant our first time very fresh, meat selections and good rice!!
The sushi was rolled a nice and quality was good. The kal bi was authentic.. thank god!! Give this place a try.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was my husband went into order sat down and waited till it was done they could of asked if he wanted a glass of water while he waited.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cyn Q.Calgary, Canada1662442May 2, 2019
Good sushi spot for the NW/NE area without having to drive downtown or country hills area. Huge variety of sushi rolls to pick from (20+). It's hard to figure out what the rolls look like because they all sound the same and they don't have a lot of photos on the menu. Hard to differentiate the differences when all the ingredient are similar.
Takoyaki wasn't that great, no octopus pieces in the center and felt like I was just eating a ball of dough.
Fish on sushi was fresh! Not too much rice on sushi.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Simon D.Beltline, Calgary, Canada0181Apr 22, 2022

Review: lunch.
Bottomline: boutique sushi restaurant that serves good portions and varieties of fantastic sushi and cooked food.
Atmosphere: the restaurant is located in a stripe mall with a small dark sign that is easy to miss. The restaurant is very small, clean and well kept. They only have one large table that can cater to more than 4 people. Service was friendly and attentive.
Food: we were not sure about the food as there were a huge selection to choose from. To our surprise, everything we ordered looked appetizing and tasted great. The fish to rice ratio was on point and the rolls were done well. We ordered the pineapple express and the tropical rolls. It was nice for a change to have pineapples and bananas as ingredients and they worked well in a sushi roll. The cooked food did not disappoint as well. We ordered the katsu don and the chicken yakisoba. Ingredients were fresh and the flavor profiles were marvelous.
Value: average prices for Japanese food. What striked me strange was the price of a piece of tamago sushi (2 dollars). It was the same price as a piece of salmon sushi which didn't make much sense to me. Otherwise, portions were generous and we left happy on a full stomach.
Encore? Yes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Todd T.Calgary, Canada0152Aug 10, 2021
Wow what a gem of a restaurant . Wanted to try a new sushi place and was happily surprised with Kimu. It's A small spot with a big Heart . The night we went it was busy and I can now understand why . The young man server was pleasant and did his best to make our dinning experience great ! The food took awhile to get but it was a busy night and well worth the wait . We had the Veracruz roll and it was soooo tasty ! We had the regular items like tempera vegetables which where yummy and not greasy as well as sushi and a very flavourful salad ! Overall it was a great dining experience and a tasty one to beat ! Yum yum

This place had consistent reviews and so I thought I'd venture out and try it...I was not disappointed! The salmon and tuna sashimi was very nice, thick and fresh and the rolls were extremely unique! I had the volcano roll which was incredible and the fried Philadelphia roll which was so cheesy! The spicy salmon roll was also quite nice
Definitely a must try!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jim J.Calgary, Canada233Jul 29, 2021
