We've only lived here about five months and have been on the hunt for great sushi...and tonight we finally found it! Holy cow did we find it!
We came here with friends and ordered eight rolls. It felt like it took a little long to get the order--but it WAS eight involved rolls!
I wasn't thrilled with the house salad with ginger dressing--the dressing or lettuce was too watery and the lettuce pieces were way too big to easily eat with chopsticks, but that wasn't a big enough deal to deduct a star. The sushi definitely made up for it--our favorite rolls were the Snowflake [something] and the TNT. I could have eaten more of those!
So overall the service was good, the sushi was AMAZING, and we can't wait to go back!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Janelle S.Manassas Park, VA40243Sep 9, 2015
I was nervous going here after the mixed reviews about waiting times (2 hours! wow!). It was me, my husband and our two young children who wouldn't be able to cope with a long wait time. Ultimately we decided that quality was worth the wait rather than quick and risk lower quality and a bad experience.
Verdict: I was impressed!
We arrived at 6:15 to find only one other table in use. The waiter who took us to our table was super friendly and engaged with my kids. We ordered edamame, combo sunomono, chicken bento box for my kids/husband's leftovers the next day, and a variety of nigiri and maki (eel, tuna, salmon, squid, sea urchin, and spicy salmon, crab and scallop rolls).
Our food arrived promptly and was fresh and delicious. The nigiri had just the right amount of wasabi under it. The eel nigiri was broiled perfectly -- nice a crispy edges, not too mushy in the middle. While we normally like our spicy rolls with the sauce mixed in, they served it with the sauce on top and crunchy on the inside which was tasty. There was also a bit of a sweet sauce dropped on each roll. The bento box featured vermicelli noodles, chicken teriyaki with carrots and broccoli, california roll and various tempura shrimp/vegetables. My daughter finally went outside of her comfort zone and declared the chicken was delicious, so there's that :)
By the time we left an hour later there were 5 tables in use and it was starting to get busy, but it didn't keep the wait staff from prompt service. This is going to be our new place!
Side note: While the signage outside of the restaurant is labeled Sushi Jin, the wait staff's shirts and the menu are called Taeji Sushi. Their website is www.tjsushicatering.com (which I'll be attempting to update on the listing once I'm done with this review). It appears the change in management is complete!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chunnu B.Fairfax Station, VA239399809Feb 13, 2011
This is what Fairfax Station needs - some decent sushi! I wouldn't have expected such modern decor out of a restaurant situated in this strip, but Sushi Jin impressed me with both traditional and non-traditional Japanese touches.
The waitstaff were exceptionally friendly and peppy, answered questions I had regarding their combo meals and "Japanese Milky Soda." They even "highly" recommended I try the milky soda. I know, it sounds pretty weird, right? I gave it a try and would have to say it wasn't so bad (I wouldn't get it again, however.) It tasted like candy in soda water...
Sushi was delicious! We both liked our shrimp tempura rolls, though agreed we have had better. The "Uniquely Jin's: Lobster Shrimp Nigiri" was alright, but it was their "Inferno" roll that impressed me. They weren't kidding when they put 3 chili signs next to this item! Who knows what they put in there other than a hint of Siracha, but your mouth will be on fire!! Absolutely loved it.
For desert we shared the coconut rice pudding, which pretty much looked like tapioca. We really wanted to run into the kitchen to suggest adding some toasted coconut and mango topping to kick up the boring presentation and not-quite-there taste of the pudding.
All-in-all, a good night, with good food, service, and company.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Lianne F.Ashburn, VA2767741Jan 24, 2010
I am SUPER picky about where I get my sushi and while I love to eat it on a regular basis I haven't found any places nearby that were both reasonable and CLEAN. When Sushi Jin opened last year, I was excited at the prospect of a clean yummy sushi place.
The service is kind of hit or miss, meaning I have had great service and mediocre service. But the food makes up for it, Try the Orange Blossom and Spicy Moon rolls. They also have great grilled dishes, tempura and even some kids sushi too! My 1 year old nephew LOVED the cheesy California roll.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle D.Washington, DC1629115Feb 20, 2014
Great, tasty rolls that are decently priced for a Korean-owned sushi place. Overpriced sashimi. CRAP service. I'd skip to takeout.
I ordered: rainbow roll, lobster roll, and spicy tuna roll. All of which were tasty and fresh. Nicely presented. My bill came to around $26 and I was pretty full.
I've been here quite a few times when I'm desperate for decent, nearby sushi rolls, dining in twice and getting takeout many times (usually with nice wait staff...I am not sure what happened). This is the first time I came in during lunch and dined in since a year or two ago. Dead and slow as from what I remembered whenever I came in for takeout.
If your waitress has enough time to be browsing or texting on the phone, then they have enough time to clean up the dusty ass ceiling lights from above the restaurant sushi bar. The sushi chef had to get my waitress' attention to even give me my bill. Decor is nice, just needs to be cleaned. Cups need to be washed more carefully, leftover debris on there.
When I came in during lunch with a friend, I asked to sit at the bar and the waitress says sure...then proceeds to walk the other way........LOL what? After ordering, I asked if she can split the bill with my friend and she says yes. Then she staaaares at me awkwardly for a minute and then finally asks me in a rude tone: "Um aren't you going to tell me which ones are yours???"
I also recommend the chef giving the sushi plates we ordered to the waitress, instead of handing it to us over the bar....I mean, what is the waitress getting paid for? Texting? Greeting us at the door and running away? Printing the bill??? Why am I tipping her and not the chef???
The owner of the restaurant would do better to hire people with experience and of customer service skills (such as the young man they used to have during lunch a year or two ago...who, during blistering summer, offered my sister water when we had takeout...my sis was waiting outside with my dog).Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Stephanie T.Cary, NC179163Feb 17, 2011
Great local sushi, and consistently attentive wait staff. Definitely my go to sushi spot for the area!
Did carry-out from here today and my sushi was ready in 5 minutes! Amazing!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tee D.Honolulu, HI253217582Jun 17, 2015
Came here with an acquaintance a long, long time ago and it was pretty good. We had come about fifteen minutes after they had opened so we were literally the only ones in the entire restaurant. We sat at the bar and ordered a few beers, and proceeded to get nigiri and a roll. The fish was good, although not exactly as up to par as I was expecting considering the price. The chef was really nice though, and at the end of the meal wound up giving both of us a delicious piece of sushi on the house. I can't even remember what it was, all I know is that it was YUMMY.
The restaurant is lovely and the service is really good, it's a pretty nice place, despite the area it's located. So don't be deceived by the strip mall it's in.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Justin H.Nashville, TN2981Feb 20, 2015
I have been waiting here for 2 hours and still don't have my takeout order. No one has offered me a drink or even an apology. By the time you read this review I still might not have my food. Eat here if you have nothing else to do... Ever.

Great atmosphere. I enjoyed their nigiri. Their fish was fresh.
Three stars because...
Avoid the Ramen. It was terrible. There were clumps of noodles. The broth was too much soy-sauce taste for a Miso and the toppings were overcooked(means they weren't fresh). It doesn't hurt to have a ramen as a choice, but not the place to come for it.
Special rolls were okay. If you want something more than just nigiri/sashimi, it's a fun addition. They're generous with the fillings.
Service was nice. They didn't bother us so that was a plus.
On side note: Their green tea was on the light side... Tasted like hot water.
*Would come back for nigiri/sashimi.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
