My family and I stopped by on a Tuesday night from picking me and my girlfriend up from the airport. The atmosphere is pretty typical for a Chinese cafe and there's an outside eating + smoking and inside non smoking eating zone.
I personally ordered the baked pork chop and I finished the entire dish. I did enjoy the meal but the chefs could've added more cheese to the dish. I felt it a little lackluster. Pork chop was decent and the pasta was decent. Nothing special. This dish got the job done and I have a soft spot for baked pork chops in general. 4/5.
The pork spare ribs were decent as well. Each of the clay pot dish's are served with a side of soy sauce to season the dish and this definitely helped on the experience. Spare ribs tastes like what you would expect from a dim sum restaurant. Again nothing special but if you like pork spare ribs, this should do the job. 3/5.
The preserved meat tasted nice! Or maybe I was hungry lol . I like preserved meat as well and this dish would do the job for any other preserved meat enthusiasts. Again.. it gets the job done, especially if you're hungry. 3/5.
I would recommend this spot if you're hungry!
Prices are decent. Portion sizes are cool. Clay pot portion sizes do come with a lot of rice so be aware. It was late at night and I did see the hospitality workers have one air pod on. I did not find this as an issue but some other people may. They still were attentive and checked up on my family frequently.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Luis H.Alhambra, CA8206948Apr 29, 2024
Food quality is poor, wouldn't recommend coming here anymore. It used to be good a couple years back, but have been going downhill.
There are much better options near by, Top Island, U2 Cafe, you name it and try it, guaranteed it will be much better.
Even their simple baked pork chop rice they can mess it up. Bland, dry pork (overcooked is my guess) for almost $20 after tax and tips. felt like a waste of money.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 20, 2024
The strength part of this place is open till midnight (we came here at 10:30pm on Friday) and also there are so many menus to pick from.
Me personally came here because of claypot rice, the taste is decent - the great thing about this menu is the amount of sausage is generous.
While the pork belly is not my favorite as it is too sweet and so much different with similar dish I've been trying in many places as well the pork meat is still hard.
The Beef & Wonton Noodles soup (which I did not take pic), was having super not nice strong smell of beef, though the soup is tasty.
Service is swift one.
If you ask me I'll surely come back to this place if there is no more restaurant open in the area at night.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Oct 20, 2023
Breakfast review:
Steamed Rice Noodles: 2-Star. Decent portion, but noodles is thick. Can barely find any mushroom inside. No flavor at all. Chili sauce is good tho.
This is served w/ Bean curd skin n Ginkgo Porridge, which is fresh:3-Star.
Over all 3.5
Hot milk tea is okay.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 7, 2023
I visited Sunday Bistro located in Alhambra on a Friday night and had a great experience at this authentic Chinese restaurant. I arrived at around 10pm and found the restaurant located in a strip mall, but don't let the location fool you, this place is a hidden gem!
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating options, and I appreciated the Chinese advertisements under the menu when we sat down, which added to the authenticity of the experience. There was plenty of parking available in the lot, and smoking is allowed outside if that's your thing.
When I walked in, I did notice a bit of a smoky smell, but it didn't detract from the experience. The service and atmosphere were decent, but the star of the show was definitely the food. There were a variety of options on the menu including beef, fish, rice bowls, and noodles.
As a vegetarian, I was pleased to find that there were two options for me - veggie fried rice and veggie curry. I think they can modify other food if asked. I opted for the veggie curry and was not disappointed. It was cooked just right and had the perfect amount of spice. I highly recommend it!
To drink, I ordered the Thai iced tea which was the perfect complement to my meal. Overall, my group of 10 loved the food and we all left feeling satisfied. If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, Sunday Bistro is definitely worth a visit!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Michelle Z.Alhambra, CA1054Mar 14, 2024
Service was on. Food is kinda mediocre. I ordered 星洲炒米 which is good. Rich in flavor and aroma. But be ware, the worst 黑椒牛柳I have ever tasted.

It's okay if it's late night and you're starving. But even then I feel like there are better options. It's not inedible but it's not that great either. Fried rice was bland and lacking that wok char flavor. The congee was kinda whatever. The curry was good but it could've been a cubed curry flavoring.

This is a typical Hong Kong style cafe food. The lemon ice tea and milk coffee tea are a must. This place is good for big groups because of the food potions it is good to order away and share. Staff is quick to come and get order and bringing your food out.

I remember getting a suggestion from Amy and Kenny of Cafe Spot that the previous chefs and most of the menu was incorporated into this location bringing the amazing sauces and flavors of Cafe Spot back resurrecting it from the dead.
Hands down service here is awesome with LiLi and Cindy nighttime managers running the show I went from never eating here due to a bad experience with saltiness during the pandemic to eating here two times a week every single week lol.
Need a suggestion? Red Wine Braised Rib! Served with some broccoli, corn and fresh pasta or rice this dish alone is the #1 comfort food. The rib is ultra tender as they most likely slow cook for an eternity.
My regular dishes I order here are
Green beans stir fry with bits of pork and Chinese bbq sauce one of all time favorite dishes
Sweet and sour Fried Fish Filets (order this with the sauce in the side to keep the fish crispy)
MaPo Tofu - depending on their shipment of chili's can be at times insanely hot but it's the dish where I end up eating three bowls of rice lol
Shrimp and scrambled egg with green and white onions my wife's favorite
Before 8:00pm dim sum style tender beef wrapped in white sheets of noodles
Steam Chicken giving Golden Delight and ipo kopitiam competition.
Garlic stir fried current seasonal vegetable
Sizzling plate Filet Minon or Rob Eye steak with Garlic and Onion sauce - super comfort food
Chicken steak is cooked when you order it so expect it to take 20-30 mins. Other cafes half cook it and finish cooking it when you order it drying it out.
The list goes on. Things like Hot Fruit Tea and are all good! Spare ribs and spaghetti dishes including things like chicken wings and Takoyaki is better at Garden though.
I rotate between this cafe and Garden Cafe.
I highly recommend this place! The vibe is very lively with DJ type asian songs playing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
