9 reviews for Sun Valley Golf Course
Played this course for the first time last Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with the laid-back feel and low amount of traffic on the course. It's perfect for beginners (read: me) because of the lack of water traps. This fact greatly reduced the number of balls I lost due to less than stellar drives. I lose a lot of golf balls!
The cost to play is only $10 for nine holes which is fairly reasonable. I didn't see any golf carts, though the tight proximity of each of the holes only warranted a small amount of walking. The course does have a lot of height variation which makes for some interesting drives.
As others have mentioned, this course can definitely be played with only a wedge and a putter. I really wanted to try out my new driver but alas, had I used it, I probably would have launched a ball onto the 15.
The course is in decidedly mediocre shape. The teeing areas in all but the last two holes are little more than dirt patches with tufts of stomped on crab grass. The putting greens were all in decent shape, so I can't complain too much.
A note about the deli: The cashier is often times the deli boy as well. Combining these two tasks mean anything you order will take FOREVER! It literally took forty-five minutes to get our four sandwiches as the kid behind the counter had to stop making our sandwiches, wash his hands and ring up each new customer who came into the clubhouse.
Overall, I really like this course and will definitely play here again.

Unquestionably the worst course I have ever played. It has been a while since i played there but this is the first chance I got to yelp it.
The grass is bad,the greens are terrible, and if there aren't piles of leaves on the greens, the flag will be stuck into the green. The marks in the greens make it impossible to take your putting seriously.Hitting the ball on the green here is a bad thing because if you do,the ball sticks into the drenched greens. It looks like they made up the greens really nice at the beginning of their operation and figured they didn't half to do any upkeep.
If your a dad looking for a cheap game to play with your 10 year old son, this is the place. If you want to play on an actual golf course,STAY AWAY FROM SUN VALLEY!!!
i'm surprised that this place has such good reviews.
the only positive features of this course are one, it's super close to my house and two, it's cheap. that's about it.
i came here to play some frisbee golf. when i got to the course, it wasn't that busy which was neato because it was a saturday. however, once we had paid and got on the course, i was pretty disappointed. the course looks like shit; it's alot of dirt and the holes are so unorganized. there are signs missing for certain holes and they have the people playing regular golf on the same course so you have to watch out for rogue balls.
we spent 15 minutes there and got so frustrated that we just returned our discs and left. unless they learn to take care of the course and make it so it's not a pain in the ass to play a fun game, i will not be coming back here.
I've been saying for years they need more Disc Golf places here in San Diego county because that amazing disc golf course at Morley Field is always crammed with people. When I found out about this course in La Mesa, I was a little hesitant to check it out. From the information I gathered, I noticed the golfers share the same course with the disc golfers. Thinking back to how things work, (Skateboarders can't stand roller-bladders, Surfers can't stand Body-Boarders, Snowboarders can't stand Skiers, etc...), I wasn't sure how we would be looked at while playing disc golf.
So today a friend and I went to Sun Valley Golf Course in La Mesa and were actually surprised that the course was pretty fun. It's not as challenging as Morley Field because Sun Valley doesn't have as many trees. I would highly recommend this course for beginners to get the feel of throwing the discs. The disc golf baskets are usually located close to the regular golf pins.
We arrived around 11am on a Thursday, paid $5 each and were stoked to see that there were only 3 groups of golfers and a solo kid disc golfing on the whole course. There are only 9 holes, but your admission is for 2 full rounds. We caught up to 2 different groups of golfers and they welcomed us to play through. This was a huge plus because golfers take a lot longer to get through a hole. All in all, it was a great day, great time, and I will go back.

I got the chance to visit Sun Valley a few weeks ago and was pretty impressed with this 9-hole disc golf course. Ball/regular golf is also played here, but disc golf was the draw for me. I found a pretty well arranged course with some nice variety. The green fees were cheap and the golfers didn't seem to mind having to share the course. We quickly joined our round with some locals who had played here more than a few times. They were quick to share course tips and just offer a bit of friendly conversation. I look forward to getting back to Sun Valley for another round in the near future.

I don't play golf at Sun Valley but I do go there to play disc golf. It's a 9 hole course for both sports and most of the disc golf baskets are easily spotted beyond the greens.
The rates are reasonable for disc golf, $5 for 18 holes. Some may complain that it's more expensive than Morley Field near Balboa Park but one of the greatest things about Sun Valley is there are nowhere near as many people as there are at Morley on any given day. And the ball golfers are usually courteous and will let you play through. I normally get alot of questions from ball golfers as to the difference in the discs. They also have a decent selection of Innova discs for sale.
In September, the course shuts down for a weekend for the Sun Valley Open. Disc golf players from all over the country travel to play in this PDGA event.

This 9 hole chip 'n putt is in relatively poor shape. The greens are rough, slow, and sometimes not even green! (just dirt in some fringe areas) I understand that the rest of the course can be run down but at least take care of the greens! However, it is cheap and quick to get through so it makes sense to use as part of my golf repertoire, so despite my review, I do go often. I prefer the chip 'n putt that is in University City but i don't have any golfing buddies up there anymore. This is a great place for beginners, who may not hit well or know all the golf etiquette.
Wow 2 very french words in one review, thank god for spell check.
Intimated by the idea of golfing on a real course? Sound expensive or like a hobby for those people. Nahh.. think again.
The La Mesa Sun Valley course is a "chip and put" 9 hole course with holes that have a short distance, and therefore is good for beginners. It's cheap, under $20 including club rental.
I tried it and liked it. It's fun getting outdoors and walking around, and golf is all about getting that one good shot or two and trying to get it again.

Most definitely the greatest 9-hole pitch and put in all the land. I can shoot par blindfolded at this place. I used to go every week last summer and the best part is all you need is literally a 9 and/or wedge and a putter! A seriously great way to spend lazy summer days!
