I might as well call this place my second home with my second family. The community within Summit is EPIC, and everyone is extremely wonderful. The employees here are very down to earth and will be HAPPY to assist you in anything. The climbing routes are very intriguing and challenging... but they can be a load of fun!
I'd like to specifically point out to Jackson, Aaron, and Jackie on how caring they are, (raises for them!)......
While I had to leave this place, I will always be grateful to have spend a good amount of time here and met some potential long term friendships here! Come to grapevine summit! Thank you GV SUMMIT!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 27, 2022Updated review
IMPORTANT! This Summit location (Summit Grapevine 1.0) is now closed permanently, however Summit Grapevine 2.0 is now open! It's MUCH bigger and better and only about 1.5 miles down the road!

This gym has the most amount of options for top rope and the most auto-belays as well. (Last time I was here, there were 7 auto belays)
The routes here are changed often, which I enjoy because I'm never bored. Also, there are walls with arches you can lead-climb.
If you're tired of top rope, there are two trapeze-style ladders you can attempt to climb as well as a small bouldering section. However, I would not come here solely to boulder, since I think the bouldering section is easily only 15% the size of the bouldering sections of the other Summit gyms.
Also, if you're not into drinking unfiltered water, this is the only Summit gym in DFW that doesn't have a water fountain with a filter. Probably not a big deal, but it's just something I noticed for some reason. - Chris V.The Woodlands, TX85Sep 25, 2022
BUYER BEWARE - USED CAR TECHNIQUES
Bought what I thought was 3 month pass... turns out it was a perpetual membership. A little over 2 weeks ahead of the end of the 3 month period, we began trying to contact the gym at the contact information we had on the billing emails we received. We also tried calling multiple times during this period to make sure it was not going to continue billing.
Now, the gym has billed my card for close to $400 because the information on billing goes nowhere. Today, I was finally able to get someone to answer the phone at the gym. I was told by the teenager on the phone, who would not get a manager, because the manager was too busy, that I didn't get a response because I was emailing the wrong email address... and was laughing as she said it.
There's a way to do business, and this is not it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David S.South Dallas, Dallas, TX83246Jun 2, 2022
I absolutely love Summit. They have bouldering, top-roping, lead climbing, and auto-belay walls set up and lots of space so you can typically find a spot to climb in at any given moment. The staff are incredible to work with and the community that you experience at the gym is fantastic.

Prerequisite: sign waivers online before your visit, saves time! Preferably you don't wear socks in climbing shoes (they keep rental shoes pretty clean, no complaints, if you're weird about that - bring your own climbing shoes or wear socks as a last resort, but you may not feel secure on the wall!) Climbing shoes are meant to be snug, not like your running shoes, wear as small as you can stand; it's common to slip the shoes off while belaying or resting!
Summit Grapevine is my home-base, and first love of Summit gyms. I've experienced many an abs-class, bouldering tumbles, and auto-belay dives at this location.
This is also the location that I took my lead certification class.
This location is like home, with a giant "off-width" crack, speed wall, top rope, auto-belay top-rope, unique boulder "cave" and lead routes.
On occasion, especially on holidays, the gym can fill with a ton of "sending" kiddos, some brave, some not so brave, so if you visit during peak times and days, bring your best encouragement to keep these kids on the wall; what an amazing hobby/passion to develop so young!
Members get gear, classes and a shop-discount included in their membership. Guests get the benefit of taking advantage of their 3 months for $99 they run every now and then (eventually that gets a guest, like me, hooked - and a member I became!)Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Kayla F.New York, NY1847May 19, 2021
I went to this gym for a few months. This review is solely for this location.
THE POSITIVES: The yoga classes are great. 5 stars to those. This gym does have a lot of unique wall features that most gyms don't have. They have grigris on the floor so it takes almost no time to clip into a climb. They rotate their bouldering fairly often. They have a variety of events every month to foster community and to have unique climbing experiences.
THE NOT SO POSITIVES: The air conditioner was constantly broken, and they never turned on the fans (that made a lot of noise if you asked them to). Whenever I asked the front desk to turn on air, they would claim there was nothing that they could do, or that the one floor fan "wouldn't help much."
The staff here doesn't really walk the floor very much. I saw one belayer not braking the climber, told a staff member, and then waited several minutes to see that he had not addressed the climber. I found another staff member (who was doing a private lesson) who then addressed the situation. The caribiners oftentimes don't autolock, leaving it to the climber to go tell the desk who will then fix it... but it takes the climber to be proactive (I've never had this problem at other gyms). The past few weeks, the new ropes have needed to constantly be replaced, but they don't have extras in the back, meaning that several routes get closed until they get a replacement in. You'll also find every now and then that a hold is loose in the top roping area. This is mostly due to the fact that it can take months for some of the routes to be changed out (there were some that were 4+ months old).
This gym could be great if the staff was more attentive and actually climbed here so that they could see the problems that all the members face. They are building a new location nearby, but need to attend to this one while that one is under construction.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nick T.Fort Worth, TX215870Jan 27, 2020
The grapevine summit climbing location is great. The staff is relatively friendly and there is always room to climb.
This location has very limited space but makes efficient use of it. If you are looking to boulder, I will tell you that both the Dallas and Plano locations will probably have more routes for you. This gym has a large area dedicated to top rope which is visible to your right as you walk in.
Overall, the staff and atmosphere is great at this location and I would really recommend it if you enjoy top rope climbing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shan H.Irving, TX1162Jun 14, 2020
Great facility and very active
My issue incurred after I contacted them to cancel my membership the process went smoothly but for 4 months now I have been charged and no resolutionHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lexy H.Indianapolis, IN32867Jun 8, 2019
I was in Dallas for a convention and had an extra few hours before my flight. This gym was literally minutes from the airport so I thought it would be the perfect spot to go to. Their bouldering area is small, which was a little unfortunate because I only brought shoes on the plane, but the setting was super fun; the staff were super nice and the top rope/lead area were all filled with preset grigris which allowed new to the gym people to enjoy themselves. There were also numerous autobelays and cracks to climb!

Give this place a try if you want to do indoor rock climbing. For $20, you get rental rock climbing shoes, chalk if you need it, and even access to fitness classes. You can spend all day here if you want, there is no time limit. They have auto belay or manual if you bring a buddy. The auto belay areas could be busy with little kids because they are considered the "easiest" I thought it was pretty hard but then I have no upper body strength and I'm not as skinny as I used to be. My indoor rock climbing skills have definitely been lowered because I haven't done this regularly in 7 years. I used to do this all the time in college. Summit offers different rock climbing sections and vary from easy to hard. This place is kids friendly and you get access to the fitness classes when they're in session.
