We researched a few storage places when we moved into the neighborhood a few years ago. We see Storage Mart from our window so we decided to check it out. The prices are pretty in line with the competitors so we went with them.
Unlike the other review, we didn't have a problem with our reservation. We showed up and went through a pretty thorough orientation. We signed for a 12.5.8 for about $160.
It was pretty easy to park and move our stuff in. Some of the carts are jacked up though and we worried about making it all the way to our storage unit.
They have a bunch of moving and packing materials if you need them. But I'd assume that they're pretty expensive.
We are concerned about how the Atlantic Yards project will impact the building. Hopefully we won't have to pull our stuff out anytime soon and find another facility.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rachel H.New York, NY517Mar 17, 2014
I was pleasantly surprised by the professional and friendly service at StorageMart. I mean, having to get a storage unit in NYC is a total pain and could be a horrendous experience, but this was actually pretty easy and stress-free. The sign-up was quick and efficient as was the unit move-in. The staff was consistently helpful and friendly. I emailed a copy of my renter's insurance over to reduce my monthly rate. The next month I noticed that the rate had not been reduced. I thought, "Oh, no. Here we go." But I called and the woman I spoke to assured me the issue would be resolved, and I would receive a refund for the overage as well. Sure enough, everything was made right the following month. Moving out from the unit and closing my account was equally simple. If I have to do storage in the city again, I'll definitely go with StorageMart.
Four stars because the prices are ridiculous for the size of the spaces, but that's city-wide, so it's not really a StorageMart-specific con.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Glenn C.New York, NY22615Nov 18, 2014
Storagemart had given notice this location is closing and customers had until December 15 to obtain their belongings.
This just changed about an hour ago. With NO NOTICE, they just sent an email letting all their current customers know that they no longer are the manager or owner. They WILL NOT let you in and essentially I think my belongings have been kidnapped due to them or partially because of them.
They refer me to NYC, but unfortunately, my leasing contract is not with NYC. Court documents make no mention of Storagemart losing their property today. In fact, public documents seem to imply Dec 18.
That part will be interesting.
Here are some interesting facts for some legally minded, as I will surely seek legal advice, and happy to share what I learn for those interested.
a) Storagemart made no indication that they might lose control of the property earlier than December 15, or that they were even negotiating.
b) They intentionally and repeatedly communicated to customers that they had until December 15 to vacate.
c) Furthermore, they referred our private information to other vendors, for which I personally received 4 cold calls referencing me by name.
d) They took payment as per the leasing agreement for all of November. In fact, they sent an invoice for December, 2014.
e) I have insurance with them, part of their "premium lease" which insures against loss, theft, or damage. Hmm . . . does this qualify as theft?Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi, Glenn,
I'd like to clear up any misunderstandings if I can. Firstly, I do apologize that this was abrupt and has left you confused and upset. I understand that frustration and can sympathize. We tried to maintain management as best we could, but were forced to pull out now.
However, and this is the good news part, this change in management does not affect tenants worried about the remainder of November. Anyone paid in full through this month will not have any issues with their units or their belongings. However, this does mean that what happens after the 1st is no longer under our control.
Any further details will have to come from the state/the ESD, as this is all I have to offer. I hope that this was able to clarify some things for you.
Again, I apologize for these regrettable circumstances. We've done everything we could to mitigate the strain on our tenants, but I realize it's still stressful and inconvenient.
Thank you kindly,
Matt - Nancy M.Los Angeles, CA177291May 2, 2014
I was so pleased with my service at this Storage Mart. Not only did I get a fantastic rate but Gilla and Frank were accommodating and patient. Storage mart lucked out with these two , I can tell they actually care about what they do and how they do it.

1st time using storage...awesome! Frank & Gilla are very helpful. It was super easy. They recommend a moving comp Action moving "don't judge a book by its cover" the reception sounds like she's going on 101 & the drivers/movers are suspicious looking but they are honest & very about getting the job done. I'm moving out of jersey city so the toll is high. I provided him with the extra funds for the toll. The driver told me he will refund back what's remaining of the money if there is any left. When I got to my storage space he left the receipt on my box. How awesome is that!

I will say that the best and quickest customer service I've ever received from storagemart was when I left them a bad review on Yelp. Heather G. responded immediately- unlike the times I contacted storage mart to no avail due to employees who could care less and a voicemail box that remained full without ability to leave messages for weeks on end. Unexplained reasons for rent increases is inexcusable. Never again. Never. Again.

Hi Frankie,
I'm really sorry you've received such poor service from us. I also apologize for the issue with the auto-pay; I think perhaps whomever read your earlier emails inquiring about the auto-pay feature was confused, and enrolling you in it automatically was a byproduct of that misunderstanding. That doesn't excuse it, of course, but I wanted to reassure you that we didn't intend to do anything sneaky. Just good old-fashioned human error. :)
In regards to the rent increase and fees, I would again like to apologize; while I do see that some of your fees were waived due to our failure to maintain contact with you while you were overseas, I regret that no one informed you of the rent increase and fee. Unfortunately, as some of our expenses increase, we must issue occasional rent increases to our tenants in order to continue to maintain the facilities and the security of the items stored within. I know that that apology seems vague and is likely of little value to you retroactively, but I feel that the truth is the best thing I can offer you, Frankie.
I believe that the security fee you mentioned is in fact a standard renter's insurance fee. This is a mandatory $10/mo that we have to issue for liability purposes and such. Again, I regret that something that could have been a minor issue was not disclosed to you. I think perhaps better communication on our part could have prevented you from feeling ambushed by these fees.
In closing, I hope that my response demonstrates to you how seriously we take your concerns and that we are willing to do whatever it takes to improve and regain customer satisfaction. I thank you for your patronage, and I hope that if you have further concerns or comments, you won't hesitate to reach out to us again. Please also feel free to email me directly at help@storage-mart.com.
Have a wonderful day!
Thank you kindly,

I needed a place to store my belongings while away in Europe for 10 months. I chose them because I used them for a 2-week period before and it worked out well.
I signed up for an $127/month with the first month free. By the end, I was paying 147/month because of a surprise rate-increase. It took me weeks to find out why because the manager either never answered my calls or their voicemail box was full. I warned them in writing that I would be out of the country and ONLY reachable by email. "Not a problem, they said." My email address was on my contract. I never got email responses until I repeatedly wrote while ccing another branch manager. Turns out the rent increase was because of the vague reason of "building management." What? They said they couldn't promise it wouldn't happen again and that it would increase again if I hit the one-year mark. Suddenly an extra security fee per month was tacked on as well.
I chose to pay myself online though once the increases were added, I was somehow suddenly enrolled in auto-pay. I did *not* sign up for this.
Horrible customer service, non-communication, surprise fees- by the end I paid nearly $140 in extra fees and surprise fees. That's over an entire extra month at the rate I originally agreed to...never use them.
Never. Use them.
The only positive thing I can say about this place is exactly that- it is a place. - Keith K.New York, NY5512May 10, 2014
I rarely write reviews, but when service is above and beyond expectations - I have to give credit when credit is due. The level of service, professionalism, and courtesy at this location is always exceptional. Each time that I need to go to my storage, I am ALWAYS greeted by the manager, Gilla, by first name. Amazing how connected she is to her customers. There has been a few instances when I have needed something resolved and/or clarified re: billing, rates, etc and Gilla always resolves these issues quick and precisely. The space is always clean and Carlos (the guy that keeps the place organized and clean) is warm, friendly, and helpful! Great job guys.

The people at storage mart are amazing! I moved from DC to NYC and not only did they make my move easy w/o me even being there, they remember who I was, my brother was and were clear, straightforward and friendly. The facilities were clean and safe. The staff is excellent.

Storage Mart is far and away the best self storage place in the Downtown Brooklyn area. I went by all the places in the area - Extra Space, Storage Plus, U-Haul, etc. - and was met at most of them with listless, unhelpful employees. Completely uninterested in drawing in my business.
And their spaces are crappy, have low ceilings, etc.
Gilla and Frank at Storage Mart are awesome - the personal touch is disappearing these days but Storage Mart is proving that it is alive in some places and these ratings show how much customers value it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adrian M.Brooklyn, NY7617Aug 18, 2014
Convenient location, and a helpful staff. Frank assisted my storage move by providing a tour of multiple units to aid my decision. The facility is pretty accessible, with a great loading bay, key-code freight elevator, and L-carts to assist your load-in. Climate control and security cameras (both hidden/visible) are on all floors for insurance purposes.
Also, plenty of packing materials are available for sale to help with a move.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
