It's expensive here, and I'm sure it's because of the rent of River Oaks. Ordered the vegetarian deluxe sandwich and was expecting it to be more filling for close to $9. With a 12 ounce can of coke, the meal was $11.
It came out quickly, and the Dakota bread was fresh and delicious. Just wish the sandwich was fatter for the price.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chance V.Houston, TX28Dec 21, 2017
Good if you're into paying $15 for sandwiches you could make at home yourself with better ingredients. 8 out of 10 of their sandwiches are Turkey and to switch the meats to chicken or anything else is $6. Plus they can't take that many orders at once.
I've been a couple of times now (because I work across the street) and each time I find something extremely frustrating. The people take your order and are kind of rude about it like you're inconveniencing them. Tried to go there for breakfast one day and they told me it would be 25 minutes to serve me because they had a large breakfast order (15 sandwiches) ahead of me. They literally have the name bakery in their title but can't handle 20 sandwiches at the same time? It would take a normal person by themselves in a regular kitchen at home to make 25 turkey sandwiches.
Only reason I didn't give one star is because I will probably have to eat there again at some point because my coworkers might have a group agreement one day and decide to go there. I'm hoping my mercy of two stars gives this kitchen some mercy before deciding to spit in my sandwich.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Barbara B.Houston, TX029Dec 28, 2020
Sadly, Stone Mill permanently closed on December 19 after more than 26 years. It will be sorely missed by everyone in our family.

We have been customers here for years. The sandwiches are very good, even if a little bit expensive. And the baked goods...breads, cinnamon rolls, brownies, etc. are fabulous. Probably my favorite bread in the city. Many choices, very fresh and delicious.
But I seriously question management/ownership here and I'm concerned that one day it'll go out of business. The sandwich prep time is incredibly slow, such that we typically call 15-30 minutes in advance to place an order to minimize the interminable wait associated with ordering in the store.
More recently there is something in the air there that causes a burning sensation in the eyes. We have noticed it several times and the employees agree with us. Today we sat outside in the heat to avoid it. It's to the point where we are afraid to go into the place as it is such a miserable experience sitting in there. I've heard that the owner denies its existence. Well the owner is wrong.
Someone needs to buy this place, keep the recipes and manage it much better than it's currently managed. Provide more seating and quicker service. The food is definitely worth it and something needs to happen before Stone Mill Bakers goes out of business.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Blake C.San Francisco, CA853Aug 6, 2020
So good! Work around the corner and got a breakfast slider, kolache and a couple sweets. Support this place. It was very clean and everyone wore masks!

Fresh ingredients and the super convenient location are the main reasons why I come here. I LOVE SANDWICHES, but this place is over priced!! There is something that stands out however....I crave my customized sandwich about once every 6 weeks and give in! $17 for a sandwich and chips has to be justified with a very busy workday and stressful clients lol. Do yourself a favor and head down the street to Brown Bag Deli

I'm 29 years old and my family started buying bread from Stone Mill when I was probably ten years old (maybe younger!) I go out of my way to buy our family's bread here, and everybody loves it! Depending on our appetites, the large loaf of honey whole wheat can last us between 3 days and a week. The staff are very kind, address my toddler by name, and are generous with their samples. I'll keep going as long as they are open, and I hope my son has the same love for their baked goods as I did growing up.

The good- all the baked goods. What's not to love about fresh baked bread and cookies? Oatmeal raisin is where it's at. I could eat them every day and never tire of them.
The meh- notoriously lacking service. What's with this? If you don't want to deal with people then don't work with the public. Not enough to keep me away but it's annoying.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
