Try calling them, the phone rings forever. That should be a clue about the customer service.
We had a reservation, waited 10 mins until someone showed up to staff the hostess desk. Got seated. Waited 25 minutes, still no one had taken our drink order. We knew this was a pending disaster, got up and left.
Entrees are in the $40+ range. You can't charge big city prices with Pennsyltucky service.
Either charge Pennsyltucky prices or offer big city service.
I think they are just understaffed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 27, 2016
On their website Stockyard Inn poses the question of what makes for a memorable meal. They sum it up by saying a warm greeting at the door, a glow in the dining room, fresh cut flowers on the table, the taste of exquisite food and wine and the ring of good conversation. When I went there, with the exception of the food which though very good not in my book exquisite or exceptional, they pretty much delivered all of the above.
For my meal I ordered a Caesar with anchovy along with their rib in prime rib done rare, specifying red, not pink center. The Caesar came with a good dressing to it, nicely mixed with black as opposed to white anchovies on a side dish. The romaine was fresh, had a crisp bite, and as far as Caesars go, not bad. The prime rib was somewhat overdone, more of a medium rare than rare but a good cut of meat properly seasoned and having a meaty flavor.
The overall atmosphere of Stockyard is exceptionally nice, almost club like, rather stately with a menu selection sort of like they had in the men's dinning clubs of Philadelphia in the 60's. The service I had was exceptionally good, totally professional, friendly and polite.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jacqueline D.Wilmington, DE14816Apr 8, 2021
Great place for intimate dining! Food was delicious, served by friendly waiter. Will go back, even if 1 1/2 hours from. Home.

This place has tanked to the point of no return! Stopped in on Friday evening for a couple drinks and appetizers. Drinks were lame. Fine... no biggie if you don't know the bartenders. The scallop appetizer off the main menu was good (trust- don't do the bar menu scallop w/ bacon offering!)
After the scallops I decided on the shrimp cocktail. Holy smokes- the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. I would have spit it out on the bar but decided to gulp it down and hope it didn't come up in 5 min. Big mistake which was realized 42 minutes later. I said something to the server about the shrimp and he said he would relay the concern to the kitchen. Shrimp was on the bill and I saw it still coming out when I was bolting from the establishment. Stay away!!! What a shame to see this place tank this bad. Loved this restaurant growing up in my hometown Goodbye Stockyard Inn ‼Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristof T.Lancaster, PA231911466Mar 8, 2017
Yes, it's true. If you're allergic to a room full of old stuffy white people, this is not the place for you. My friend and I, along with a table of 20 something's, were the only ones trying to pull up the hip factor. The decor could be out of the 1940s. BUT, I did like the serenity and relaxed atmosphere. Maybe the ghosts upstairs were making sure nothing gets too rowdy.
I went for restaurant week with a friend and it was a great time to try the fanciness....filet mignon, pork chop, chocolate mousse pie. The filet mignon and the mashed potatoes were PHENOMENAL. The filet was cooked perfectly to my medium preference. My friend's pork chop was a bit dry.
The service was excellent and left nothing to be desired.
I'll be back most likely- just give me a couple months to save up!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin M.Lititz, PA11162175Oct 21, 2016

Our 21st wedding anniversary. We chose to go to the Stockyard Inn for dinner.
We knew going in it would be a slightly higher price then other restaurants we usually frequent. But you only get married once right? So why not splurge.
The place is rich with history and is elegant but not condescending. (that means to talk down to ). Our server Erica was attentive and amazing as she recited all the specials of the night from memory. Complete with sides, glazes etc. impressive.
I had the Mediterranean Penne with chicken and my beautiful bride had the steak tips. Both were delicious. The restaurant was nicely furnished, and the low lighting added to the ambiance. Here's to 21 more years.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Just Another Hungry Guy C.Oakland, CA100676Dec 15, 2019
Horrible customer service. Took 45 minutes for appetizers and another hour for main course. The old lady kept blaming it on others, but didn't even bother to apologize. Our family and friends agree that this place has gone downhill.

Nice decor and service was good.
Food on the other hand was priced for fine dining and I've had better meal at Texas Roadhouse than here. Was recommended the duck which I could smell that it was overdone on its way to the table. Had to send it back inedible. For the same price for a meal here you can go to capital grill! Very overpriced and out of touch with what current dining landscape is. Will not go backHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Naomi S.Schuylkill County, PA412226Oct 27, 2019
Bland food and indifferent service at a high cost. Give it a miss. They didn't open at the time posted outside. The door was locked until a couple minutes posted after the time on Google. Looks like a place for old geezers rather than families or even single adults.

Our hostess, Athena, was quite rude and easily flustered. Sure it was busy, but be professional; after all, first impressions and all that. My brother and I were the only people we saw under the age of 60, so maybe she had bad experiences there with young people and automatically deemed us personae non grata. After an eternity at the hostess stand, we were shuffled (slowly) off through some double doors and handed over to our server.
Service was very competent, but also a bit sterile. I don't really care if you can list everything on the menu, and I wouldn't be impressed if you could rattle off every special for every day since you started working there. Just give me some good, anticipatory service and make us feel like we are welcome, not like we're lucky to get a table. They just seemed to react, and that's a holdover from decades ago when service seemed like an afterthought. The fact that the service was present is the only bright spot here; it was by no means extraordinary, but at least they brought you your food and filled your glass when you asked.
The food was alright; I ordered a steak mid-rare, and it was the epitome of "decent, I guess." When you factor in the price, and it becomes "I've made a mistake." My bro had an uninspired salad with way too much sugary dressing.
The most off-putting thing about this place, likely introduced by the haughty nature of the hostess from the moment we stepped inside, is how esteemed it thinks it is. If the Stockyard Inn were a living, breathing person, it would be a man who wears a black suit with a gold pocket square and drives a second-hand Mercedes. If it were a woman, she'd wear way too much jewelry and wouldn't buy anything that didn't have "Coach" emblazoned on it. They'd sooner donate money to a Symphony, even though they have no interest in classical music, then contribute a dime to charity. In other words, if I could anthropomorphize the Stockyard Inn, it would be a tawdry person who thinks they're classier than they really are. If you were to put a whoopee cushion underneath their hemorrhoid pillow, they'd shoot up red-faced and shout, with sincere indignation, "how dare you?! Don't you know who I am?"
This place might've been interesting back when putting fire to food was the latest innovation, but the only remarkable thing about it now is how stodgy and démodé it is.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0
