Q:
Anyone know yet if they plan to reopen I constantly crave this place cant find anything even comparable help?
A:
I love this bbq myself, as far as I know there are no plans to re-open soon. The closet thing I've found to the level of greatness Sterlings provided was Pop'n smoked or Woodpile. Neither are Sterlings but they have good bbq...but now you got me… more

I've had barbecue all around the world, and especially all around the US
Sterling's is a top 5 on this planet
Amazing meats
Amazing sauce
Perfect fries
Classic potato salad. My grandmother would be incredibly happy here....
So good. Mandatory stop if you like BBQ.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 13, 2017
I've had this place bookmarked for a bit and decided to stop in while running to see a client on this side of town. I figured, why not?
Pulling up the place looked a bit tired, but so does the whole area. I walked in to the place and it had a really nice menu selection. There was a guy answering phones at the counter, a gal running the register and a cook behind on the grill.
They have a great selection of lunch and dinner options, and I went with the brisket sandwich with fries off the lunch menu. They cook their food to order here, which I loved. I was carrying out, so I had some time to kill and hung around and kind of studied the place while I waited.
The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the inside of the place needs some serious attention. The ceiling tiles above the cooks area were about to fall out and appeared to be seriously damaged and old. The dining area was in need of some updates and overall the inside seemed tired.
The only bright spots of the inside was A) the chalkboard with all their specials on it, which I loved, and B) the wonderful staff working behind the counter, and C) the food!
The brisket itself was pretty good, but I should have asked for it chopped. (my fault.) The bbq sauce was really really good, and it really made the burger. But the best part? The fries! holy goodness, these are some really good fries here!
When you are there, check the chalkboard for the specials, and see what they have going on. If you order off the dinner menu, you get two sides, and they seem to have some amazing looking sides.
I want to see the place flourish, so I'm not going to be extra hard on them, but the inside of the place really does need some attention and updates. Maybe over time this will happen, and I would like that if it did. Aside from that? The BBQ was actually really good.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 23, 2017
Sterling's did not disappoint! Food was hot and fresh. Costumer service was on point. Food was well seasoned and portions are generous. Mashed potatoes were good, but had a sweetness to them which I found odd yet edible. Beef ribs were the biggest I've ever seen in my life...think Flintstones! Meat was very tender and tasty. For dessert I tried the peach cobbler...AMAZING! Not overly sugary, naturally sweet due to the juiciness of the peaches; crust is flaky and compliments the cobbler perfectly. Also, they have red Kool-Aid!!! Talk about old-school!

Wow. Why did it take me so long to make my way over here? This is the best BBQ I've had in Michigan. I frequently opt for BBQ from a chain restaurant since I didn't really have anywhere else to get it. Now I will go to Sterling's every time. I had the Double Play for $12.99. I chose ribs and pulled pork for the meats and Mac and cheese and collard greens for the sides. The meals also come with a corn muffin. Everything was great. The ribs and pulled pork were cooked perfectly, and the sides were tasty. Laniese is great. She answered all of our questions and had great recommendations.

Dear god this place is horrible and empty for a reason. I think they took a building that was once a sizzler judging from the shape. And mad it theirs. There is no ambiance at all. Which is fine for a good bbq hole. But. Their brisket had more fat than meat. And the brisket was boiled , not grilled. The Mac was oily and needed salt band you had someone screaming across the room every now and again. Wow. Everything else aside. I'd come back if they had a good brisket bit theirs is embarrassing. I heard their rib tips are better indont know. Never tried them.

This is a classic BBQ joint. Not fancy inside, food is served in styrofoam clamshell, and the food is DEE LICIOUS! I had the pork ribs and pulled pork. (Wanted to try brisket but they were out.) Sides were collards and mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, with a nice char on the outside, but tender and juicy inside.
If I had one quibble it's that the sauce could have used some heat to it, was more on the sweet side. Also there was a little too much for my taste, already poured on the meat. Next time I'll ask for sauce on the side and that will solve that.
The young ladies behind the counter were very friendly and had a good recommendation for dessert. I don't live in Detroit but next time I'm here I will return to Sterlings. It sure beats a Coney.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 23, 2017
Solid bbq! Prices are super reasonable and it was ready really fast. Corn muffins are crazy good, and they give you plenty of wetnaps if "you look like a neat person." I called ahead for my order and they took a ridiculously long time to answer the phone, so be patient.

Great BBQ! I knew the BBQ was going to be great when I pulled up and smelled the smoke.
I ordered a half slab of ribs, baked beans, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. Every meal comes with a cornbread muffin. The ribs were tender and the meat fell right off the bone. The sides were the perfect complement. The peach cobbler was great warmed up.
This will be my go to spot for BBQ from now on.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Shawn M.Columbus, OH57216207Nov 16, 2017
Excellent homestyle cooking.
So we tried this place as we were new to town. Being on a trip from Ohio for an event taking place in Detroit as a birthday gift. I scoured many restaurants in the great Detroit area for some of the best places to eat since the occasion was special. Sterlings made the cut.
So my woman like collard greens thanks to me. So I mentioned a few places to eat and we came here for a late lunch.
Let me say this. I was amazed with the food. The Beef ribs was OMG! The collard greens was OMG! I would eat here once a week but we are from out of town so upon my next visit we will be coming back! My woman had the BBQ pulled pork and that was really good as well. Their mac and cheese is homemade and its good too even though I'm not a fan of mac and cheese.
If you want BBQ homestyle, homemade food come here for sure. The only set back is its a small hole in the wall place but its worth a try for the food. You cant always judge the book by its cover so dont drive past it because of its looks.
Give Sterlings a try and you won't be disappointed!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
