Steak ’n Shake

I've never been to one, as I'm from Cali, but I've heard a lot about them, so I was excited to finally come to one! I came at like 12 AM with a group of friends to this place and all of us were hungryyy for shakes and fast food!

Decor: Though most of you guys probably have been to a Steak n Shake, for those who haven't, think diner with the red & white checkers, gleaming plastic seats that are surprisingly comfortable (or may just bring back comforting childhood memories) and nice, spacious and clean.

Service: Though I came with a group, we were served just fine. I think ordering took a bit longer than anything since all of us couldn't decide what we wanted, but it got through. It was a small wait, but the waiter was a nice old man :]

Food:
- I got an Oreo shake: mmmmmmMMmmm. So creamy, delicious and calorie-dense. perfect!! (And if ya'll didn't know, there's a tiny size for those who want just TASTE of their shakes. yeahhhh, so get a bunch if you want ;D)
- Burgers and fries: though everyone got a different burger, all of them were quite delicious (of the one bite that I got). And their fries are very thin and crispy. yumyumm.
NOTE: Best part? He split our checks at the register :]

Bottom Line: It's like a more chain-y, prepared diner, compared to Courtesy Diner. But I like this place as a late night grubbin' place with some friends!

If you are near any other Steak 'n Shake go to it. This one has really gone down on service and cleanliness. The sign said "Please wait to be seated" so we waited five minutes for someone to come and give us a table. We then waited for fifteen minutes for someone to come to our table to take our order along with a drink order. We never did get any water.

He ordered a steak burger with thousand island dressing on it. I ordered chili Mac with a steak burger with mustard and onion. Of course his burger had no dressing on it. My steak burger with onion was laughable. It had one piece of onion on it. NO, NO!! Not a slice of onion - one piece of onion. After waiting a while for our food, we were not about to complain about anything and have it taken away to get it fixed.

As we paid our bill at the counter, we both looked at the floor behind it and it was horrid. French fries and trash all over the floor. I'm amazed no worker slipped and fell.

Would I come back here? No, I'll go the extra miles to the one on Hampton Avenue. I won't catch you on the flip side here.

Not a good dinner experience. We visited on a Friday night and there were plenty of empty tables. There were 7 of us, so they put together a few tables. Our server hustled to get us situated with menus and then drinks. Then everything went to hell in a hand basket. (Am I showing my age with that comment?).

There was 1, yes 1, server working and when we arrived, not many other patrons. Then they started piling in and that included a group of 11. We had gotten our orders in and then got no service at all. NOTHING. No drink refills, no food, nobody stopping by to apologize for the wait.

When they brought the food, it was in waves. A few would get their orders, then a few more, some partial orders and strangely enough, my salad was the last item. A salad with grilled chicken.

We were still missing drink refills and some other parts of our order so we had to go up to the front counter in hopes of waving someone down to help. When the brought my Mom's soup it felt like it had been in the refrigerator.

The burgers were cold and my "salad" was a bunch of lettuce with some chicken on top. While we were unhappy with our situation and couldn't wait to leave, we all felt bad for our server. The poor thing was just so overwhelmed. Where was the Manager?

Getting a check required another visit to the front counter and much waiting. When we left, my Dad found someone who looked like a manager and asked him why he wasn't helping out. I think it took every fiber of my Dad's being to not explode and go off on the guy. If that would have happened, everyone in the place would have stood up and cheered.

Don't.

There is a reason this place has been around since 1934: good quality tasting food. So when Shake Shack hits the St Louis scene in 2017, it is going to have a lot to live up to( that's because the founder of Shake Shack stated that he created menu items from his childhood favorite food memories of St Louis i.e. burgers and fries similar to Steak and Shake and custard similar to Ted Drews.)

Now granted it as far as burger and especially the shakes, Steak and Shake has good quality food stuffs. However where we differ are the prices vs. me still being hungry afterwards. So I really don't go much unless I have a specific taste for the place.

On this visit I wasn't real hungry but wanted a burger, So Steak and Shake was the perfect fit this go round. I got the Frisco sliders (3) and fries for $3.99 (it's like $.29) more for cheese, so with tax it was $4.65 total.

Fries: 3/5 now these have to be hot and they were. I like the soft yet semi wet (from the grease action) of Steak and Shakes fries

Frisco sliders: 3/5 hot and to the point, not a lot of sauce but I'm not going to complain, as you can see the burger isn't that big. Meat was almost on point as their bigger brother the single stack hamburger. Except it, didn't have that grill diner effect like its bigger brother. Sort of reminded me on the old fashion small Wendy's square burgers from the 1980's.

Well this is depressing! If you want to see bad management in "action", this is THE spot!

Tried the mobile order option. They have no system for handling this type of order either. It was acknowledged by several and apparently ready. However, after seating a few additional people who arrived after us, we still had NO ORDER. Eventually, after the manager pled for someone to get the order to us, a cold bag of very greasy and almost accurate order was presented!

Wow! Still open and the same consistently bad, slow service! Oh an the manager says she cannot reboot the WiFi! "She can't do nothin about that"! How long will it take to get this $$ off the app? Trying. Cannot believe it, after all these months.

I was all set to come in and get some chilli, yesterday 12/1 /18. I go into the steak n' shake with my mother in maplewood and they didn't look busy inside at all. I went in and there was only 3 other tables with people. I found us a table partially clean. We sat ordered right a way. 30 mins. later all we had where our drinks. So I say please cancel our order and let me pay for the drinks. Terrible place to go with friends or family. The pictures speak louder then words!

I got here with my daughters at 7:35pm. Upon entering I noticed there were at least two, maybe even three waiters standing around. It's 7:40pm now and I'm still "waiting to be seated" as the sign says, meanwhile I haven't been acknowledged or anything. I know they see me STANDING HERE. I get tired of waiting and I find my own table and we seat our damn selves. I even grabbed my own menu at the front counter. Suddenly a waiter approached our table and asked me if we were ready to order. I ordered my food at 7:43pm. Our drinks were brought out a couple minutes later so that wasn't a big deal. 8:10pm comes around, we finally receive our food. My cup gf chili was missing.

Avoid this location.

I love steak 'n Shake - and I've been to dozens of them. This is the worst run Steak 'n Shake I have ever been to! The service takes forever - and their drive-through is a pathetic experience that cannot be missed!

They even shut down their drive-through once ( they just put one of those small traffic barriers in front of the takeout window ) and when I asked them they told me they do thy when they are they are understaffed.

Take the extra couple of minutes and find another Steak 'n Shake. You will save time - and have a much more enjoyable experience!

My girlfriend and I got a quick lunch June 20.

It was good food, and our server was delightful and on-the-spot.

We both got burgers. I got a big one. She got a small one. I ditched my buns, and had a good meal. This is a goooooood burger.

She got fries. I tasted one. It was tasty-crisp.

Stop trying to pull stuff over on me, Steak N Shake! I ordered 2 bowls of chili. You poured 2 cups of chili and tried to pass them off as bowls. Then you gave me 3 packs of oyster crackers!?! I would say I'm never coming back, but I'm not a prideful person. Hopefully you all will do better next time.
