On the way home from Portland, I stopped for dinner at the Station House Grill, which is attached to the Sunoco convenience store along US 202/ME 4 in Hollis (not Buxton). The map location is correct to a T.
The Station House Grill is a family owned and operated restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner at reasonable prices in a family friendly atmosphere. The casual full service dining room with high ceiling has ample seating include booths and tables. The kitchen area is visible from the dining room.
The breakfast menu offerings include "order by number" Station House Specials ($4.99-$9.99: egg dishes & omelettes), pancakes, French toast, waffles, and breakfast sides. Bargain Breakfast Specials ($3.49-$4.49) and Kids (12 & under) breakfast menu ($3.99) offered too.
The lunch/dinner menu offerings include salads, soups, chowders, chili, appetizers, sandwiches, subs, melts, burgers, hot dogs, steaks. seafood, chicken, pasta, pizza, and comfort dishes. A selection of Pepsi fountain drinks are offered. Desserts include pies, cakes, and puddings. See the menu and prices at http://stationhousegrill.biz/pdf/menu.pdf
Daily specials are offered and they also have Ten under $10 Daily Specials served with 1 fountain drink ($1 refills). Mondays After 4PM: 1 Child Eat Free with $10 purchase and Fridays 4PM-9PM: All You Can Eat Fish Fry
Seniors get a 5 percent discount everyday.
I arrived here just before 5PM and the place was steady busy. I took a seat at an open table and the waitress arrived promptly with menu and specials and offered a drink.
I decided to go with one of the Ten under $10 specials and ordered the #10 ME Shrimps & Scallops tossed with Linguini in a White Wine Sauce served w/Garlic bread and fountain drink ($9.99 plus tax). The entree was served in approximately 20 minutes.
The portion was just right and the linguini dish had plenty of small very soft/mushy shrimp and scallops, linguini cooked just right in a creamy white wine sauce, not too thick. However, the dish was not served very hot, just warm. The taste of the dish was not too rich and had a good flavor. The toasted buttered garlic bread (cut from sub roll) was toasted very crunchy on the outside.
The waitress was friendly, as I was checked on a couple times during the meal and asked how the food was.
I passed on the offer for dessert and received the check promptly. However the place got very busy and the waitress became very occupied by the influx of new customers sitting down. After waiting 10 minutes, I left cash with the check on the table and told the waitress "all set" as I exited the dining room and headed back out on the road.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - L.P. I came here with a friend a few years back, and I am STILL fantasizing about the meal I had here, especially the onion rings!
When I found out there was a restaurant attached to a gas station, I was... admittedly a bit skeptical. But the interior is smartly decorated and neatly maintained. It was also crowded, which to me is always a good sign because where there are lots of customers there usually is good food!
The prices were fair and affordable, especially considering the quality of the food. The breaded and baked haddock fillet I had was light, buttery and flaky, the onion rings clearly were fried in fresh oil, and service was speedy and courteous. I also really liked how there was a tasty assortment of baked goods available in the convenience store section. I may or may not have eaten more than I should...
If you're on the road and you need to make a pit stop, gas up, buy some goods, and feed your family (or just yourself), this is the place you want to be! I hope I can go back again and try something new off the menu!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David J.Falmouth, ME222Dec 6, 2014

My husband and I used to eat here all the time. We hadn't been in a few months. We decided to stop in today. After we waited a while we finally had a server come over. I ordered the haddock sandwich. It is supposed to come with chips it did not. The lettuce which I payed extra for was brown and wilted. My husband ordered the open face hamburger. He said no cheese but he got it with cheese anyway. It's too bad it used to be a good place to eat but not anymore.

Watched the kitchen on a busy night go from handling raw seafood to cooked seafood to sub rolls without hand washing or gloves. I have a seafood allergy and am so, so glad I sat where I could see into the kitchen. I can't imagine how sick I would have got if I had eaten here.
This used to be my go to for cheap and quick, but now I'm avoiding it at all costs.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 9, 2010Previous reviewThe Station House is one of my favorite hidden places in Southern Maine. Good food - nothing fancy, but well made traditional comfort food. Miss mom's cooking? Come here.
They offer a great variety of foods, from seafood to breakfast all day. The onion rings are to die for, the deserts are good, and the staff is very friendly.
The only downside is that you need to come early! The restaurant closes at 7:00 p.m, which could be because of the location - there isn't anything around, and I doubt that they would get much late-night business. Still, it was a little disappointing to get there at 7:15 and find out I couldn't get food.
The attached convenience store is also one of the few places I've found which has been carrying the sugar-sweetened versions of Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, and Mt. Dew. - J L.Boston, MA1402Oct 7, 2012
Where do I begin? Station House Grill is a hidden gem. Once under different ownership and called Don's Market, this place has done a total 180 since the current owner took over 6 or 7 years ago. Improvement after improvement has been made and it shows. Station House Grill looks unassuming from the outside since it is also a gas station and convenience store, but once inside this great family restaurant you are faced with a menu full of delicious choices and a clean, cozy, nicely decorated interior.
Not only do they have a large variety of comfort food, seafood, Italian, and American food, but they cook every one of those types of food phenomenally well. I have tried practically everything on the menu and have never gone away even slightly disappointed. The service is great, the owner is always present to make sure everyone is satisfied, and the food is just to die for. My favorites? The steak tips are wonderful, the country fried chicken is great, the fish chowder is amazing, the chicken broccoli and ziti is heavenly, and the seafood is as fresh and delicious as you could ever want. Their fries are hand cut and the onion rings are the best I've ever had. Seriously. And don't even get me started on their homemade desserts! I could go on but writing this review is making me hungry!
This place opens very early (I'm talking like, 4 or 5 AM), so if you work early hours, hunt, or are a truck driver on the open road, it's the perfect place to go for a hearty breakfast. I noticed that a previous reviewer commented that they are only open until 7 PM, but that is simply not the case. I believe they close at 9 PM since I have eaten there far past 7 PM, and they are open 7 days, including most holidays. They have truly made an effort to keep the costs of the food low in the current economy while still giving the customer great quality food. There is a lot of room inside the restaurant, with two rooms and the option to have a large party in a private room in the back. They offer a group menu for functions as well as take out. The portion sizes are large and there are different specials going on all the time, including an all you can eat fish fry on Fridays. Keep your eye out for special events like car shows and charity dinners as well.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kelly B.Portland, ME04Feb 5, 2015
I love going to the Station House Grill because it is so nearby, but I only like the dinner there now that the menu has changed - the lunch menu doesn't have much to offer. For dinner I got the Bacon Carbonara with Chicken and it was probably the best thing I've had in a while. I was pleasantly surprised. However, the other people I had with me for dinner weren't quite as fond with their meals, which were some seafood options. Back in the day when they were called Don's they had such good potato wedges with nacho cheese on it, and then up until last year they served Loaded Fries - however, now they don't really have an option like that - at least during lunch time.

Maine is chock full of good restaurants, and one of the best for breakfast, lunch and dinner is The Station House located in Hollis Center, Maine. This family-owned and operated restaurant rightly boasts that its staff will do everything possible to ensure your dining experience is pleasant. Our order included two breakfasts and one lunch, the latter being one of the most tender, juicy Reuben sandwiches we've ever consumed. Our server, Joan, is the mother of the owner with bragging rights she takes seriously. If you're looking for a simple meal, great service and reasonably-priced menu, you will not be disappointed. There is so much more to check out at www.stationhousegrill.biz. The Masked Consumers give this business FOUR STARS.

My wife and I had breakfast there again this morning. The food was quick and tasty. The two servers that helped us were very friendly as well. Great little breakfast spot on the weekends.

I have been going to this place for years.... when it was Don's and then after the new owner took over.... loved it.... however, my husband and I went there for lunch today and were so disappointed....there were exactly 5 tables occupied.... I ordered the Pastrami Melt with fries and my husband ordered the Philly Steak sandwich...after waiting for almost half an hour to get these sandwiches, my sandwich was very tasty but it was not as advertised on the menu.... the menu described it as being on thick cut rye bread and it was definitely not thick...the fries were frozen and heated in an oven ... not even close to being crispy... McDonald's makes better.... my husband said his sandwich was dry....
our waitress "Courtnie" was very, very nice... friendly and energetic... concerned about our needs... came to check on us several times during the wait for our food and assured us that it would be coming soon... I have NO problems with her...
I would think that with all the upgrades in the cosmetics of the restaurant that they would pay better attention to the food quality..
prices were nothing like they used to be either.... not a good fit for this area... we will not be going back... wish they hadn't changed it...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
