The woman who did my nails, Marcia, was very nice and did a wonderful job on my mani-pedi. My mani was gel and my pedi was regular but they both came out nice. She even put free diamonds on my ring fingers. I found out about this salon from their Groupon deal. So the total was $35 for a mani-pedi with gel mani which is a very good price for the service. I recommend them to anyone!

You do need to call ahead for an appointment for they do book up.

      Updated review

(There appear to be two different listings for this business, so I'm posting an identical review in both to cover my bases).

While the location could use some sprucing up, it doesn't lack customers and the ladies that work there are all very nice. It seems to be favored by gentlemen in the area looking for quick haircuts during the workday.

I called to make and appointment and I was told over the phone that it was $30 for the gel manicure, cash only. She asked me if I had a voucher, I said no (seems like a lot of folks are redeeming vouchers from Groupon based on the reviews here).

Marcia has a nice selection of nail polish. It's not the biggest selection, but it's thoughtful. Every color you would need to see is up there. She also has loads of nail art supplies displayed, which I have never seen anywhere else before.

I was impressed by something I take for granted at other places. The actual nail filing. At other places, I have had a cursory file and they usually just kind of shape them however they feel like. Marcia takes her time. This is not a, let's rush you right out of here as soon as I can so I can get another butt in this chair, filing. She took her time, filed them into round points just the way I like.

Another thing I liked is that she does a "dry" manicure. No bowls of water to soak your cuticles. The reason why I like this is because when you soak your nails, they retain water. When the nails dry, they retract back to their normal size and shape...which leads to nail polish that cracks and chips quickly. Marcia uses cuticle softener to keep the nail beds moist while she does the cutting.

Marcia was very pleasant and I liked her demeanor. She seems like she has a "no fuss" attitude. She took her time with my manicure which I appreciated. She spent a lot of the time on the phone (which she apologized several times over for), but it didn't distract her from providing me with a very nice looking manicure.

In summary: cash only, M-F only, last appointment 5:00 PM each day.

This will become a 5-star review if this gel manicure lasts me two weeks!

Today was my first time ever getting a mani, and Marcia made the experience so welcoming.

I'm a dental student so I work with my hands a lot and they were dry, chipped, and overall pretty disgusting. Marcia actually gasped at my cuticles... Anyway, I wanted something festive for the holidays and she definitely delivered: patiently dealing with my poor nails for over an hour. She's so genuine too, explaining how I can keep my hands in better shape and how to maintain the polish for longer.

I would definitely come back again, and with friends.

First mani! Ready for Christmas :D

I tend to do shellac mani pedi before trips in order to make sure my nails hold up for the duration of the trip. Now this is an awesome strategy for stress fee vacationing but it can add up. Thanks to Groupon I discovered this little gem! Marcia is very attentive to detail and leaves your hands and feet looking awesome!

Best part? I paid $35 for a shellac mani AND pedi. That is the same I pay to get regular mani pedi at my nail salon on Newbury. Highly recommend!

Called state st. Hair and nails and simply explained how I have been trying to call and no one called me back is there anyway I can come in today because I was going on vacation. Marci quickly said she had an opening at 10:30 came in on my groupon voucher. Can't complain one bit! Marci is the best by far, I just moved to Boston so finding a good mani pedi is a must. They also has eyebrows and hair it's perfect! My nails are beautiful as well as my toes, my feet are so soft. I have a bit of OCD so the fact that Marci did my nails and I didn't complain is a big deal!
Always book in advance and come in on time!

      Perfect nails!

Just went to see Marcia for a quick manicure. Absolutely love her so much. She paid so much attention to my nails and made them absolutely perfect. She also has an array of colors there so you can definitely find the color you want/need. Overall, so excited to go back.

*definitely make an appointment, it's a one woman show
      *it's cash only!

Can't speak for other ladies that work there, but after I started going to Marcia 3 years ago, I can't go to anyone else. She is fast, efficient and does a great job on my nails. She is also very nice and pleasant person.
The place is clean, staff are friendly, and it is very conveniently located if you work in Boston. The prices are average and reasonable.
I would recommend that place to anyone!

I went here for the first time to get gel nails for New Year's Eve. I live in JP and am used to going to a place I'm always happy with there, but this place was conveniently located to my job.

I anticipated good things based on the reviews, as well as some of the clients who came on and personally raved about her during my mani. Her customer service was okay and the atmosphere is somewhat off putting. It's a hole in the wall place, not very comfortable and she is sort of nice, but also kind of cold/not truly welcoming.

However, none of those reasons are the reason for my low review. I got the mani on Friday afternoon, and it is now Sunday night and multiple fingers have now slightly chipped already. This is from a gel manicure, which has never been the case for me before. The reason I am paying $30 is for my nails to LAST. The owner, Marcia, claims the polish she uses is top notch and she only uses one brand for top coat and regular gel polish. However, I do no think this comes close to OPI or any other gel brand I have used at other establishments. Not worth the price or convenience unfortunately. :( I was hoping for so much more.

Wish I can give this place, FIVE big-ass thumbs down!
This Brazilian lady that goes by so many names, but her name in this salon is Marcia, it does not match the license. She a CROOK, LiAR , cheap &bad mouth about every CUSTOMER that uses "GROUPON" although sometimes like myself always calls before purchasing.
She gets so much bad reviews, that she also have another Yelp account. State street salon ... Sigh..

-Her polishes are not top of the line
      -dilutes both gels/CND Polish
-need to invest in real size buffers/files
      - her work space looks like a mini classroom
-tries to sell cheap stripper shoes that cost $2 at "ZAPATOS" in Everett

I love yelp for a multitude of reasons and mostly I follow the advice of my fellow yelpers bc who knows better than we do? There were some positive and some negative reviews so I figured I would take a chance. Note to self-don't take chances-trust the negative reviews! I would give this place zero stars if it was possible.

I bought a groupon and called to make an appointment. The number I called have me another number to call. I called and talked to Marcia. I asked if she had any appointments for today. She asked me what time I wanted to come in. I said how about noon. She said um and asked me how I heard about them. I said groupon. She said did you purchase one? I said yes and asked if she had any availability outside of noon, like 11:30 or 1pm as my afternoon was open. She said not until 4pm but she needed and hour and 20 min for mani and pedi. I said I'm here from out of town, any chance you an make something work for today. She said not until Tuesday. She then told me I could contact groupon to get a refund. I truly believe that she didn't want to take me bc I had a groupon. My feeling is if you don't want people to use a groupon then don't sell them!

This salon and barbershop is a hidden gem in the shadow of the Old State House, midpoint between Faneuil Hall and Downtown Crossing. The prices are very competitive and what this shop lacks in upscale decor, it makes up in warmth and great service. Marcia was very sweet and friendly, and gave the most careful and creative shellac nail manicure ever. She made great suggestions and even went above and beyond to make sure every element of my manicure was perfect. The only reason I gave this four stars is I had to wait 15 mins for my manicure past my appointment time, and it isn't as comfortable or upscale as it could be, but I'd definitely go back to see Marcia. She is a pro and I would highly recommend this salon to my Boston friends or visitors.

      Very creative designs available!
