Star Liquor is an absolute gem! Their wide selection of beverages is unparalleled, catering to every taste and occasion imaginable. From top-shelf spirits to craft beers and fine wines, they have it all. The best part? Their prices are incredibly reasonable, making it the go-to destination for anyone looking for quality libations without breaking the bank. With such great choices and unbeatable prices, it's no wonder Star Liquor deserves a solid 5 stars! They match all the criteria with food service and ambience even have one of my favorite movies playing in the background

A corner market classic. It's been here for years and it shows. Mostly in a good way. Some actual grocery and general merchandise. Lots of beers and hard liquor behind the counter. Lottery tickets for that 1.5 billion dollar prize. It's kept nice and clean. Service with a smile.

This is one of those old school corner liquor stores from way back in the day. I saw the Lottery sign and pulled over to buy a SuperLotto and Scratchers ticket. The store is nicely stocked of many products but I was only here to gamble.

This place is super sketchy. It's my local liquor store, so I've stopped by a couple times to get snacks or alcohol. Every time, I've been overcharged. On top of being overcharged in store, my receipt says a different number than what my card was charged. My receipt said $46, my card was charged $52, but when I added up the sticker prices of my items when I got home, it was $37. I know there are taxes, and some people mention a 4% service charge while using credit cards, but the math still doesn't add up. on top of this, they don't itemize any of their receipts. I think they very clearly do this on purpose....
Fine place to shop at, but please watch for this and do your due diligence.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Larissa M.Beverly Hills, CA6792Feb 14, 2023

My favorite liquor store in Southern California !!!! Why ?? They always have the rarest beverages . I've picked up at least three beverages that I wasn't able to find anywhere else after months of searching . The first two were rare dogfishead seasonal brews ( Pennsylvania tuxedo and romantic chemistry ) several years ago . The last rate beverage I picked up was stem's
Habañero guava cider which is AS delicious as it sounds . Highly recommend !Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 1 - 172167400Sep 28, 2020
I found this place on Yelp and it was close to my hotel. I decided I'd head in grab a brew, water, and a coffee for the next morning.
It was busy for Saturday night, but nothing out of the ordinary.
After my walk on the beach the next morning I stopped in again because I didn't know about the app download for DogTown Coffee. I just needed more caffeine and more water before I headed to class.
Support local and this is somewhere you can do a quick stop to get your basics.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Margaret D.Santa Monica, CA123May 17, 2023
Added 4% service charge for using credit card with no notice posted at cashier. When questioned about this Carlos said "everyone does this!" Not kosher!!

Star Liquor in Santa Monica (1929 Main St., Santa Monica, CA 90405, 3103990149) properly applied a 10.25% sales tax to my purchase of a bottle of Aquafina water ($1.99), a bottle of Gatorade ($2.25), a roll of Bounty paper towels ($3.49), and two lollypops ($0.25 x 2). The store clerk printed the thermal-paper receipt for that transaction but kept it. I asked him for the receipt, and he printed another as I watched. I looked at it, and it was a nonitemized card receipt for $9.14, showing a mystery "Admin Fee" of $0.35 added. I asked for an itemized receipt listing the things I had purchased from the store, and he printed out a third receipt. This reflected a different amount paid ($8.79 rather than $9.14), had a different time displayed suggesting a separate transaction, was missing $0.20 in CRV for the two plastic bottles, incorrectly said I had paid in cash, didn't have the proper products purchased listed but rather stated everything as either a "TAX T1" or "NOTAX," and had printed toward the bottom "PIN BYPASSED." The two receipts for the same transaction didn't match. I had paid money using my bank card. How many times did I pay, when would the transaction(s) appear on my bank statement, was my bank card still safe to use (I hadn't typed in my pin code, but my eye had been tagged with a possible optical network), and was there some other transaction with which my payment would be associated? The latter, I hadn't and wouldn't agree to that.
Was this money laundering, petty theft, and racketeering suggestive? Shannon at the Santa Monica Police Department's nonemergency dispatch didn't think so. Shannon explained her job was only to have police respond if there had been a crime, and then only if the crime required an arrest. The possibility of an illegal game supported by a cryptocurrency cache fed by retail receipts hadn't occurred to her. The possibility of money laundering using an overlay on legal store transactions didn't occur to her. The possibility that the receipts themselves were a form of printed money in violation of 18 USC 336, hadn't occurred to her. Good luck, Shannon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jeannette D.Venice, CA992826Jul 29, 2021
The guys who work here and owner are great, efficient, friendly and care about their customers and we care about them back. If you go into the store physically, there are often ragged folks hanging about, like everywhere in Venice, but no one will give you static and it's not in any sense a dangerous place. Besides selling liquor, they carry a bit of everything- T.P. And paper products, canned goods, toiletries of all kinds, and everything (including the liquor) priced very fairly compared to other convenience stores. During Covid, their offerings helped keep me out of the big box supermarkets, when I didn't want to face lines or crowds. Love this place.
